Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper Gift Card Holder

I want to thank my friend Jera Coleman for the design of the gift card holder I'm using today.  Jera gave me a card using the Easter Bunny punch back in January at one of the NC Demo Quarterly meetings in Raleigh.   I knew that I would make one.  I took her holder apart and took all the measurements to copy her design.  I made a gift card holder using the Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper.  By the way, this paper and select others are 15% off during the month of June.  To see a brochure, go here.

Isn't this cute!  I have a video for this post.  Look for it if you need a little more clarification than I can write.

The base of the gift card holder is Pool Party card stock.  It measures 4 1/4 x 9.  Score at 1/2 down each long side.  Turn and score at 4 1/4.  Burnish the folds with your Bone Folder.

Looking at the card stock, one end is longer than the other.  Cut off the 1/2 from each side on the long end.  Angle the 1/2 inch piece on the shorter side at the top and bottom and on each side.

Fold in the sides and add adhesive to the top.  Tear & Tape would work fine.  I used the Multipurpose Glue.  Use the glue sparingly.  You don't want to glue the card shut!  Fold the card to the long side and make sure all is straight.  The glue does give you a little wiggle room.

Cut a piece of Basic Black card stock to 3 1/8 x 4 1/8.  I used scraps of the Zoo Crew designer paper to cover this card stock.  There's really no set measurement for this.  Cut a rectangle strip big enough to cover across the black paper.  Angle one side.  Glue the strips butted up to each other and covering over the edges.  Reverse the sides for the wider ends.  When done, turn over the black and trim the designer paper along the edges.

Run a piece of the Duo Ribbon Combo Pack (the Petal Pink) around the layer and tie into a bow.  Glue to the front of the gift card holder.

Cut a circle from Basic Black card stock using the Stylish Shapes dies.  Punch out the juggling bear with a 2 1/4 inch punch.  I think this Punch might be retired.

The saying is from the Zany Zoo stamp set.  Stamp in Versamark on Basic Black and then emboss in white from the Basics Emboss Powders.  Cut apart and add to the front with pieces of a Foam Adhesive Sheet.

Cut a piece of Basic White card stock to 3 x 5 1/2.  Score this at 1 along the short side.  Burnish upward.  Cut a strip of the black and white Zoo Crew paper 1/2 inch.  This needs to fit around the front of the fold and along to the back.  Piece in the back to match.  Take a piece of the left over strip and cut to 2 1/2.  Fold in half.  Glue to the top putting part of the strip on top and part on the back. This strip should extend over to make a pull tab.

The gift card fits into the fold.

Zany Zoo Back Fold Fun Fold Card with Video

I have a fun fold for you today that's pretty simple and oh so cute!  My sister Martha first showed me a card she had made.  She got the idea from Sharon Burkert.

Zany Zoo Bundle Fold Back Fun Fold Zoo Crew DSP Stylish Shapes Fussy Cut Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This card uses the Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper and the Zany Zoo Bundle.  I fell in love with it.  I have a video at the end of the post for you!

The base of this card is Lemon Lime Twist.  This has quickly become my new favorite, and I love it paired with black.  Growing up, our kitchen tile was this color green with black around the outside.  Dad had picked it out.  The card stock measures 5 1/2 x 7 1/2, score at 4 1/4, 6 1/2.  This may sound a little weird but it works to make a regular 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card.  Fold the score line near the middle the way you would for a regular card.  Fold the other score line backwards.  Burnish the folds.

To decorate the front I started with a Basic Black layer 3 x 5 1/4.  Now cut a lighter piece of the Zoo Crew paper to 2 7/8 x 5 1/8.  Glue this to the black layer and add to the card front.

Next I cut a piece of a darker piece of the Zoo Crew paper to 3/4 x 5 1/4.  I chose now to back this with black card stock because the piece is already black and it won't show.

Cut the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies using the same dark print as the side.  I cut another circle from Basic White and adhered the two to make the circle stronger.  Glue them together.

Use the Zany Zoo dies to cut out the alligator on wheels from the Zoo Crew designer paper.

Stamp the saying from the Zany Zoo stamp set in Memento Black and cut it out with the Stylish Shapes dies.

Adhere the alligator and the saying with dimensionals to the circle.

The circle will be adhered only to the flap that folds back.  I used multipurpose glue, but be mindful of your glue placement.

Fussy cut the fox from the designer series and a bunny.  The bunnies face both ways so pick the one that faces to the right.  Add the fox with dimensionals to the lower left of the card front.  The bunny will be glued to the bottom left of the inside.

Zany Zoo Bundle Fold Back Fun Fold Zoo Crew DSP Stylish Shapes Fussy Cut Inside of Card Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Color some of the Classic Matte Dots with a Dark Lemon Lime Twist blend.  Give it a few coats.  Let dry.

When adding a saying for the inside of the card or writing in it, place so that it will be covered by the circle.  You could also add a place on the back or the left inside for writing.

Here is a video showing how to make the card!

Did I already say it?  This card just makes me happy!

NC Blog Hop for January 2023 Life is a Mask-querade!

It's that time again and you are in for a treat.  The NC Demos have great ideas for you for our February Hop on masking.  There are several techniques for masking.  I can't wait to see everyone's projects.  Be sure to visit the other sites when you finish here!

Join us blog

I'll be using the Thanks a Bunch stamp set (Sale-a-Bration) along with the Cheerful Basket stamp set (Annual Catalog).  I think these two sets pair very well together.

I stamped the basket in Early Espresso ink.  Leave room under the basket to cut out the panel.  Stamp the basket again on a scrap of Crumb Cake card stock.  Use the Watercolor Pencils Assortment 1.  Color in the Early Espresso pencil where you wish to add more definition right on the Crumb Cake.  Use a Blender Pen to smooth out the color.  Color the handle black.  Cut out the basket.  There is a die but I didn't want the extra paper around it.  We will later cover the basket you stamped on the white with this cut out.

Form masks of the small carrots by stamping them on the masking paper and cutting them out.  Do not leave an edge on these.  You might need 2 or 3.  I do have a video at the end that will show you.  Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words!  We will be using the Masking Paper by Stampin' Up!  I stamped a few spaced out carrots in Pumpkin Pie.  The carrots between are stamped off with a mask over the neighboring carrots.  Your stamping will show in the basket.  It's there to let you know where to stamp.  When done remove all the masks.  Cut out the panel with the Scalloped Contour dies.  After adding the words, extra carrot cut out at the bottom, and the Garden Green twine from the Three Twine Combo Pack, add the cut out basket over the stamped basket.  We are masking our extra stamping on the stamped basket.

The Butterfly Kisses Designer Series Paper was used on my card cut to 4 x 5 1/4.  Stamp randomly the small cluster of carrots around the edges.  Turn the stamp so that it varies in direction.  It's OK to run off the page.  Add the carrot tops in Garden Green.

For the second card, we made a mask of the basket by stamping it and cutting it out.  I did talk in the video about getting a little bit of the sticky off of the masks to make removal easier.  Be careful.  This time stamp the carrots exactly as in the first card.  When you remove the mask from the basket, color it in using the Crumb Cake Blends Combo and a Dark Early Espresso Blend for the handle.

I did pull apart the strands of the Garden Green twine before tying the bow.

I also showed in the video how to use the masking paper to make the large carrots growing from the ground using a 3 x 5 piece of the masking paper.

This month’s theme is Sweet Treat - a 3D item.
I'm so glad that you are here!
I have a treat bag and matching card for you today.  This bag has been around for a while.  I have  updated it with current supplies.  Warning!  This post is rather lengthy.  There's a video as well.

Country Floral Lane bag and card Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
I'm using the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper for both of these projects.  Begin with 2 matching sheets of this paper both cut to 6 x 6.  Determine if the designer paper you are using has a  directionality.  If so you'll want to place the top of your paper so that it is along the left side of the Simply Scored.  Score at 3/4.  Turn your paper and score the other 3 sides at 1 1/2.  Do this for both of your papers.
When typing up this post I decided I needed more pictures to explain.  I had to change designer papers because I had used all of the other one.  This one is still from Country Floral Lane.  Please excuse that.  I think it's easier done than said.  This paper may show the directionality thing a little better.

Fold and burnish the folds with your Bone Folder.  The top smaller fold will be folded down.  All of the other folds are mountain folds.  One one of the papers cut out the bottom left and right corners on the score lines with your Paper Snips.  Remember that the top fold is the smallest one.  On the other piece cut from the side on the bottom score line into the next score line on both sides.

Add a piece of cardboard from a pack of designer paper cut 1 3/8 x 2 7/8 to the bottom of the piece that has the missing corners.

Here it is turned to the other side.

You will glue the center little flaps next.  Put glue on the side that has the print of the outside of the bag.  You will glue these to the inside of the bag.  Glue to the same piece of paper (the one that just has the slits cut out.  This will allow that front of the finished bag to look nicer.
Glue the sides of the bag to the outside.
I added glue dots under the top folded down flap where it stuck out a little on each side.

To decorate the bag, cut a tag from coordinating designer paper from the Country Floral Lane paper.  Use the second largest more ornate tag from the Tailored Made Tags dies.
The plain and detailed leaves are cut from Mint Macaron using the Summer Shadows dies.  Glue together and add with dimensionals to the tag.
The white flowers are also cut from the Summer Shadows dies.  You'll cut 3 of the smaller flower in Basic White.  Curl the petals with your Bone Folder and attach the flowers with glue dots setting eac flower just a little askew from the others.  For the center of the flower use the Hydrangea dies.  I cut 3 from designer paper.  Use that long die with lots of flowers attached.  Glue together a little askew.  Take some kind of rounded end (I used an old paper piercer) and put it in the center of the flowers.  Push into a soft surface like the Paper Pierce Mat to get some dimension.  Glue to the center of the flower.  Add the flower with a dimensional.

Country Floral Lane bag close up of tag Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
The tiny tag is made using the Hydrangea Haven stamp set and the Hydrangea dies.  Use Petal Pink to stamp.  I added this with a glue dot at the hole and a dimensional out near the end.
Take the white twine from the Baker's Twine Essentials Pack and color with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.
Add a bow just under the flower and a little twine at the end of the tag.
Use the Elegant Faceted Gems to embellish.
Add the tag with dimensionals to the bag.
For the handles color White Crinkled Seam Binding with the Dark Petal Pink Blend.  I used 2 pieces about 10 inches long.  Punch holes on each side.  Pull the twine through.  Usually, you can just tie a knot and you'll be good to go.  The seam binding would pull through even with the knot.  I used some invisible tape to hold it on the inside.

I added a 3 x 3 card to accompany my bag.  There are 3 x 3 white envelopes on page 137 in the annual catalog.  They come in a pack of 40.

Country Floral Lane gift card Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
I cut a 3 x 6 piece of Thick Basic White cardstock.  Score at 3.  Add a piece of designer paper cut to 2 7/8 x 2 7/8.
Use the Tailor Made Tags dies to cut another tag the same size as above from Basic White.  This tag is actually too long.  I show in the video how you can shorten the tag.
Cut the detailed leaves using the Summer Shadows dies and Mint Macaron cardstock.
Cut the flower from coordinating paper using the same dies.
Stamp and cut out another small tag from Basic White using the Hydrangea Haven stamp set and Hydrangea dies.
Country Floral Lane gift card close up Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
Assemble all of your pieces and add a bow.  Again color the white twine with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.
Add more designer paper to the flap of the envelope.  That's also in the video.

There you have it.  Here's my video.

I hope you'll contine on the hop.  There are some great 3D ideas and Valentines as well.  You don't want to miss any of them.

Paradise Palms Blending Brushes and More!

Hello!  I wanted to share my Paradise Palms card with you.  I decided the best way was to make a video.  Due to health reasons I haven't made many videos lately.  I just couldn't stop.  I thought it was going well.  So I showed another card using Blending Brushes and the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks.

Today I'll focus on the Paradise Palms card.  I'll post the measurements and all the details you need for the mask card on Friday.

Paradise Palms Blending Brushes Card Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

The base of the card is Thick Basic White 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 4 1/4.

Draw pencil lines on the left of the card starting at 3/4 and then over 1 1/2 from there.  You'll have two lines.  Use Removeable Labeling Tape just on the outside of the lines.

Blend beginning at the bottom with Pear Pizzazz, then add Coastal Cabana, and finish at the top with Night of Navy.  Remove the tape when done.  The video show how to do it.

Finish the card using stamps from Paradise Palms and On the Horizon.  Use Memento Black ink.

The coconuts are made using the Opal Rounds.  I saw this on a card that Marcie Besecker made.

Use a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to make the dots.  Again the video will show you!

So here is the video.

Thanks so much.  The next card on the video used the Butterfly & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks.  I'll feature this on my blog on Friday for you.
