Stamping Tips & Techniques

Attention Shoppers and a Little Paper Piecing

Hello! Hello!  Are you a shopper?  If I'm being honest, I would have to say that I am NOT.  But when it comes to Stampin' Up!, yes I am a shopper.  I bought this bundle for one purpose.  You won't see it today.  Check back on Sunday,August 18th and the reason will be revealed.  We made this card in class recently.

Attention Shoppers Card So Swirly EF Unbounded Beauty DSP Paper Piecing Spotlight on Nature dies Tinsel Gems Four Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

What is it about that So Swirly embossing folder that I love so much?  Well, it's just so cute!

This card has a base of Thick Basic White 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4.  Be sure to burnish the fold with a Bone Folder so that it is nice and scrisp.

Next, take a layer of Basic White 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 and run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the So Swirly EF.  Glue this layer to the card front.

I'm using the Unbounded Beauty Designer Series Paper for the circle on the card.  Cut the circle using the Spotlight on Nature dies.  I think it's OK to go ahead and glue the circle to the card on the lower right of the card.

Attention Shoppers So Swirly EF Unbounded Beauty DSP Paper Piecing Spotlight on Nature dies Tinsel Gems Four Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

The purpose of the circle was to ground my shopping cart.  Cut the shopping cart from Basic Black.  For the upper part of the card, add some Ahesive Sheets to one side of the card stock.  This allows me to make the cart into a sticker.  You can do the same for the undercarriage.  I didn't but either way.

Let's talk about the gift bags in the buggy.  They show a technique called paper piecing.  First stamp the bags on Basic White in Memento Black ink.  There are three bags in the cart and one is added to the inside of the card.  Stamp four.  Now pick out papers from Unbounded Beauty that you would like to have on your bags.  Stamp the gift bag on these patterned papers again in Memento Black.

Cut out the bags for each.  Cut on the black line or even to the outside of the line but in the line.  That makes sense.  Include the handle for the bag.  The tissue paper will be cut off.  For the handle, I cut through one side of the handle and then cut around the inside of the handle.  Glue the cut out to the bag that was stamped on Basic White.  The handle will not show that it has been cut on that one side.  The cut out should fit perfectly.  Adjust the handle if needed so that it fits in the lines.  You won't be able to tell which black line belongs to the white or to the designer paper.

Complete all of the bags and cut them out with the Attention Shoppers dies.

Remove the backing on the cart making it sticky.  Arrange the bags as you wish and place the cart over them.  Rearrange if necessary and then stick down the cart.  Very carefully lift up the cart and bags.  The sticky of the cart is now on the bags or part of them.  Add glue behind the bags.  Place the cart and bags onto the pink circle.  Add the undercarriage of the cart by removing the adhesive sheet or adding glue.

Stamp the saying from Attention Shoppers in Memento Black on a 1/4 inch strip of Basic White and trim.  Glue to the buggy.

Add Tinsel Gems Four Pack embellishments.

There you go.  You are ready to shop.  Add in a gift card and it's perfect!  The colors in the Unbounded Beauty DSP just make me happy.

Use That 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper Several Samples

With the January-April Mini and the 2023 Annual catalogs coming to an end soon, I have been thinking about all of the designer papers that I haven't used yet.  Somehow, I don't think I'm the only one, now am I?  New papers are coming so I need to get busy and use some of the old.  I found a great tutorial by Jacque Williams.  I'll share the link to her video later.

6 x 6 DSP Fun Fold Glorious Gingham DSP Thoughtful Expressions dies Adhesive Backed Hearts and Flowers Simply Zinnia dies Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This card does not waste any of the paper at all!

I've used the Glorious Gingham 6 x 6 paper for this card.  I love ginghams.

Start with your 6 x 6 paper and cut 1/2 inch from the side.  Now this paper does not have a direction.  If your paper does, make sure you cut from the side.  Turn your paper so that the 6 inch part is at the top.  Score at 1/2 and again at 4 3/4.

Fold the half inch part backward and the other score line folded forwards.  You do want to make sure that your paper has a front and back that do coordinate.

Cut a piece of card stock to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  I actually did end up making that 4 1/8.  Glue the flap to this paper making the back of the card.  Hint:  Line the backing to the outer edges of the card front.  Then add glue under the flap and adhere.  If you want to hide a little of that flap, you can cut another piece of card stock the same size and adhere to the back of the card.  For that reason I did not use the Thick Basic White.

6 x 6 DSP Fun Fold Glorious Gingham DSP Thoughtful Expressions dies Adhesive Backed Hearts and Flowers Simply Zinnia dies Close Up Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

For the front of the card, you still have the folded front flap.  Take a strip of Basic White card stock.  I used one of those strips left over when cutting card insides.  Glue so that a little of the white shows beyond the flap.  Now, add the strip of designer paper cut off at the beginning.  Now you can glue down the fancied up flap or you can use dimensionals to make it stand out.  I used dimensionals.

For the front, use the Thoughtful Expressions dies.  Did you realize that these dies are retiring?  I'm sooooo sad.  As an update, the Thoughtful Expressions dies are no longer available.  Cut from Basic White.  Use the Simply Zinnia dies to cut a zinnia bud for the pannel.  I used Parakeet Party and Balmy Blue.  I had a sponge dauber on my table with Blueberry Bushel ink on it.  I added a little of that color to the bud.  The sentiment is from the Garden Meadow stamp set in the Online Exclusives.

The Adhesive Backed Hearts & Flowers were added for embellishments.  They are retiring.

So this is the inside of the card.  Don't you love how the designer paper is showing!  Add another zinnia bud.

6 x 6 DSP Fun Fold Subtles DSP Thoughtful Expressions dies Simply Zinnia dies Adhesive Backed Hearts and Flowers Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

For this card, I used paper from the Subtles 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.  This time I added in a Basic White strip cut using the Basic Borders dies (retiring).  I also added an additional strip of white on the outside of the flap for a little more definition.

The front is pretty much the same as the first card.  I did cut a frame from Pool Party card stock using the Thoughtful Expressions dies.

So here are both of the cards.  I had so much playing around with this layout.  On Saturday, I'll have a post with three more samples!  You are going to want to see what I have in store!  Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you next time.

I almost forgot to add the link for Jacque Williams video.  Go here.

Before I go, let me remind you that many items will be going away.  I think you can go to the online store and do a search for retiring soon.  There should be lots of products to come up.  Beginning April 9th a sale on selected items will begin.  We are getting close.  Warning:  Some items will disappear before the sale begins.  If you really want it, you might consider going ahead and getting it.  I don't want you to be disappointed.

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop November 2023 - Embossing

Welcome to the Luv 2 Stamp Group’s 2023 Blog Hop! We are excited to share projects with you again for the third year. This year we are shaking things up and bringing you all new monthly themes to inspire your next project!

Once you are done with each post, scroll down to the bottom and you will see a list of Blog Hop participants, you can click on their name to go to their post, or you can click the next button to go to the next post in line. Happy crafting!
This month’s theme is Embossing.
No photo description available.
There are several types of embossing.  So you might see embossing folders, embossing paste, and powder embossing on this hop.  I'll be showing some powder embossing today.

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop Embossing Card Pic White Background Snowflake Magic Specialty Soft Shimmer Paper Combo Pack Joseph's Coat Technique Sparkling Snowflakes Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
The technique I'll be sharing is called Joseph's Coat Technique.  It's been around for a long time, but I haven't used it in a while.  I do have a video on this post.

My base is Thick Basic White 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Score at 4 1/4 and use a Bone Folder to get a good crisp fold.

For the background of the card, I used the Snowflake Magic Specialty Paper.  Cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Glue to the card front.

You'll also need a piece of the Bubble Bath from the Soft Shimmer Paper Combo Pack.  This piece measures 3 1/4 x 4 1/2.
Wait to add this piece to the card because we'll be adding a ribbon around it later.

We'll  be making the focal layer on a piece of Basic White 3 x 4 1/4.

I used Pool Party and Fresh Freesia ink for this project.  Add color over the white cardstock piece with Blending Brushes.  Add the color  in spaces here and there.  It's ok to leave a little white, but you'll want to cover most of the surface.  Start with a little color and build on it until you get the color you want.  If you have time, it might help to let this ink dry a little or run your heat tool over it.  I did not show doing that, but when I make the card again, I will.

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop Embossing Snowflake Magic Specialty Soft Shimmer Paper Combo Pack Joseph's Coat Technique Sparkling Snowflakes Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Place all of the snowflakes from the Sparkling Snowflakes on a large clear block together.  Place them close to each other.  This picture is not that clear, but hopefully you can see on the video if you wish.  Stamp with Versamark ink.  Turn the pad upside down and stamp on the block as you see it.
Make sure to use an embossing buddy over the entire piece of paper first.  This also helps make sure the ink is dry.  Stamp the block of snowflakes over the paper.
Add clear embossing powder, from the Basics Embossing Powder pack, over the paper.  Flick off the extra powder and heat with your heat tool.  This is all a little hard to see since everything is clear, but it's so worth it.

Now comes that part that makes the show stopper.  Take a Boho Blue ink pad and run it over the embossed paper until the entire surface is covered.  This is a ink resist technique.  The clear embossing will not accept the ink.  Take a paper towel and wipe off the excess ink on the snowflakes.  It's magic!  I have mostly seen this technique using black or navy or espresso.  I think the Boho ink works well.

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop Embossing Close Up of Ribbon and Tag Snowflake Magic Specialty Soft Shimmer Paper Combo Pack Joseph's Coat Technique Sparkling Snowflakes Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Glue the panel to the Bubble Bath Soft Shimmer paper.

Run Silver & White Sheer Ribbon around this layer and tie into a bow.  This ribbon looks so pretty with the silver in the Snowflake Magic Specialty Paper.

For the tag, I used the Tailor Made Tags dies.  First rub your white scrap with the embossing buddy.  Stamp the saying from So Sincere in Versamark.  Add silver embossing powder from the Metallics Embossing Powders.  Heat with a Heat Tool.  Cut out using one of the smallest tags centering around the saying.  I made the tag shorter.  Simply add the die about an inch or so above the bottom.  You can feel the tie kind of pop into place into the dots already there.  Tape if you wish to hold it all in place and cut again.  This is in the video.  Tie on the tag with silver trim from the Simply Elegant Trims.

Glue the panel to the center of the card.

Complete the card with embellishments.  I used Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems on one of the cards and Adhesive-Backed Glitter Sequins on the other.  Both look great!

Here's the video!

Thanks so much for joining me on the hop today.  I know you will be inspired by all of the stops on our hop.  I hope you enjoy!

Peekaboo Birthday Card from Circle Sayings

Let's just start by saying that select designer series papers are 15% off during the month of June.  That sale is half over!  The Bright and Beautiful 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper is one of those 15% off.  I had to snag a couple more packs of it.  It will be current through April of next year since it's in the annual catalog.  That's true of all of the papers on sale.

Beautiful Balloons Peek a Boo Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack Beautiful Balloons bundle Basic Rhinestones Bright and Beautiful DSP Wink of Stella Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This paper is so festive.  I'm just going to say it.  You need this paper!

The base of this card is one of our new colors Azure Afternoon.  It's cut 4 1/4 x 11, scored and folded at 5 1/2.  Cut the designer paper to 4 x 5 1/4.  Add the glue around the edges of the paper and not through the center.

The Circle of Sayings bundle has the stamp set and a circle punch.  It's on page 17 of the annual catalog.  The punch is 2 3/8. I can't tell you how excited I am to see some more circle punches.  They are so easy.  The stamp set is focused on using this punch.  Take the punch to the right side of the card front and slip it in as far as it will go.  You can determine how high or low you go.  Punch.  The designer paper and card stock will come out in two parts.  Use them for another project!

Beautiful Balloons Peek a Boo Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack Beautiful Balloons bundle Basic Rhinestones Bright and Beautiful DSP Wink of Stella Close Up Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Let's make a frame for our circle.  Take a piece of Azure Afternoon card stock and punch a hole with the 2 3/8 circle punch.  Leave card stock around the hole.  Now take the Stylish Shapes dies.  Place the largest circle die evenly around the punched hole.  Hold it in place if needed with washi tape or a sticky note and cut.  Now we have our frame.  Sparingly add glue around the back and adhere around the hole.

Add a piece of Basic White card stock to the inside of the card.  It measures 4 x 5 1/4.

Stamp the cupcake from Circle Sayings in Memento Black in the center of the hole.  Stamp the celebrate saying around the cupcake in Azure Afternoon ink.

We are using the paper piecing technique for our cupcake.  Pick a piece of Bright & Beautiful paper for the icing of the cupcake.  Stamp the cupcake on it.  It's ok to just add ink to the icing part of the stamp.  Now pick another piece for the cupcake paper.  Use paper snips to cut out the images.  Cut right on the black lines.  Hint:  It would work nicely to use Adhesive Sheets behind your designer paper.  Then when the images are cut, just peel off the backing and you have sticker!!!  Add these to the cupcake.  Use Wink of Stella all over the cupcake.

Beautiful Balloons Peek a Boo Highlight Wink of Stella Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack Beautiful Balloons bundle Basic Rhinestones Bright and Beautiful DSP Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Can you see the Wink of Stella?

Add a bow using the Azure Afternoon ribbon from the Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack on page 143.  Use a glue dot.

For a little more glitter, color some Basic Rhinestone Jewels with Dark Azure Afternoon blend.  Let them dry before adding them to your card.

Beautiful Balloons Peek a Boo Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack Beautiful Balloons bundle Basic Rhinestones Bright and Beautiful DSP Wink of Stella Partially Open Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

So you've already seen the inside of the card right through the hole in the front.  I don't think you can see it, but I did color in a few of the stars in the paper with my Wink of Stella.  It just adds a little something.

Spring Blessings and Paper Piecing

I  love those two girls on the Spring Blessings stamp set from the January-April Mini.  I decided to try a little paper piecing technique to dress them in my card.

Spring Blessings Dandy Designs DSP Dainty Flowers DSP Blends Linen Thread In Color Opal Rounds Paper Piecing Technique Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

The base of this card is Fresh Freesia cut to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  Add a piece of Fresh Freesia checked paper from the Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper.  This paper is free during Sale-a-Bration with a purchase of $100.  It measures 4 x 5 1/2.

I used a piece of Basic White to build my scene.  It was cut to 4 x 5 1/4.  I stamped the girl on the right in Memento Black.  Next I stamped the garland of flowers.  Then add the second girl so that her hand touches the garland.

Color the girls' skin with the one of the Natural Tones Stampin' Blends Collection.  The hair for both girls was colored with the Light Daffodil Delight and then Light Crumb Cake was added to it.  The girl on the left has Light Soft Succulent leaves in her hair.  The girl on the right has Light Fresh Freesia flowers in her hair.

Spring Blessings Dandy Designs DSP Dainty Flowers DSP Blends Linen Thread In Color Opal Rounds Paper Piecing Close Up of Card Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

For the dresses, the paper for the girl on the left is from Dandy Designs.  The paper for the girl on the right is from Dainty Flowers, another free offering from Sale-a-Bration.  This one only needs a $50 purchase.  Add a piece of Adhesive Sheets a little bigger than the dress to the back of both papers.  Stamp the girls in Memento Black.  Cut out the dresses with Paper Snips.  Cut right on the line.  There is a little forgiveness for this technique.  That black line should line up with itself, but cut carefully.  Remove the backing of the adhesive sheet and stick carefully lining it all up.  Don't forget that little piece of sleeve for the girl on the left.

Stamp the two rabbits in Soft Suede ink.  Color with Light Crumb Cake.  Add the flowers stamped in Memento Black.  Color with the Fresh Fressia Combo Blends and Light Soft Succulent.  Color the Garland with the same colors.  Stamp the grass with Soft Succulent Ink.

Use Blending Brushes to add Soft Succulent to the grassy area.  Add Balmy Blue for the sky.  Keep the colors very light.

Trim around the scene that you have made.

Spring Blessings Dandy Designs DSP Dainty Flowers DSP Blends Linen Thread In Color Opal Rounds Paper Piecing Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Run some Linen Thread around the card two times.  I taped the ends to the card front under where my scene will go.  Add the scene to the center of the card.  Be careful not to place dimensionals on top of the thread.

Stamp the saying from Spring Blessings in Fresh Freesia on a scrap of Basic White.  Punch with the Label Me Fancy punch.  Add some Seal to the back of the saying layer and add some Linen Thread so that it will show beyond the saying.  Add dimensionasl again.  Do not place them over the thread.

Finish with some of the 2021-2023 In Color Opal Rounds.

Spring Blessings Dandy Designs DSP Dainty Flowers DSP Blends Linen Thread In Color Opal Rounds Paper Piecing Inside of Card Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

For the inside of the card add a 3/4 x 5 1/4 strip of designer paper.  Stamp another bunny and color.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Paper piecing is a great technique!  I hope you'll try it.
