Cards- Valentine's Day

A Beautiful Thistle Valentine

The Beautiful Thistle Bundle can be found on page 60 in the January-April Mini Catalog.  It caught my attention right away.  We made this card recently in class.  The card also uses the Alphabet A La Mode dies and the Country Gingham 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.

The base of this card is Thick Basic White measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Score and fold at 4 1/4.

Begin with the 6 x 6 Country Gingham paper.  I love gingham!  The Mint Macaron piece is 2 x 5 1/2.  Adhere a 3/4 inch piece of Sweet Sorbet card stock to the mint so that it shows about 1/8 of an inch.  That's up to you!  Next add a Sweet Sorbet piece of gingham that measures 1 x 5 1/2.  Cut across the top using the Scalloped Contours dies.

Now it's time to cut the parts of the thistles using the Beautiful Thistles dies.  For the large thistle, there is a long stem.  There is another piece that has a flat U shape,  I placed it at the top of the long stem.  I do think it is a piece you could leave out if you wish.  You will also need the base of the flower.  All those parts will be cut in Mint Macaron card stock.  The top of the flower will be cut in Sweet Sorbet.  We made 3 of the small flowers.  The stem and flower base are from Mint Macaron and the flower from Sweet Sorbet.  Remember to make 3 of each.  Glue the flowers in place.

The letters were cut from Sweet Sorbet.  Before cutting, add some of the Adhesive Sheets on one side of the card stock.  Cut the letters from the flip side.  As you add the letters, peal off the backing and the letter is ready to stick right on.  Lay the letters out to figure out the spacing.  Notice how the last letter overlaps the stem.  I like how that worked out!

Finish with some of the Festive Pearls.

I had some extra supplies after the class, so I played around a little to change it.  For this one I stamped the HELLO  from the Fragrant Flowers stamp set.

Alphabet A La Mode dies card Beautiful Thistle dies Country Gingham DSP Nested Friends Fragrant Flowers stamp set Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

I added the small flowers in a different place.  Hint:  Use the Stamparatus for the saying.  This way you can make sure to have a beautiful full and dark image!

For the next cards, I decided to add the names of my granddaughters.

Alphabet A La Mode dies card Beautiful Thistle dies Country Gingham DSP A Bunch of Thanks For Sagan and Hazel Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

I decided to reduce the number of flowers.  I was then able to add a flower on the inside of the card.  I hope Sagan and Hazel will love them.  Now keep it a secret.  I haven't mailed them yet!  The saying is from the A Bunch of Carrots stamp set from Sale-a-Bration.  Look at Sagan's card.  I messed up on the saying.  I stamped it on another piece of white and added it with dimensionals.  It's what do!

These pearls are also from the Festive Pearls pack.

So here is all 4 of the cards.  I'm loving these letters as well.

Notice the different in the small flowers.  Some show the base of the flower over part of the flower and the others show the flower over the base.  Which do you like best?

If you would like to see a card showing more of the stamp set Beautiful Thistle, I shared one earlier.  You can find it here.

Thanks so much for visiting with me today.  I almost always have the directions for the cards I share.  It does take a lot longer to write it all out, but it's information that I would want to know.  I hope it helps you!

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop January 2023

Luv 2 Stamp Blog Hop Header

Welcome to the Luv 2 Stamp Group’s 2023 Blog Hop! We are excited to share projects with you again for the third year. This year we are shaking things up and bringing you all new monthly themes to inspire your next project!
Once you are done with each post, scroll down to the bottom and you will see a list of Blog Hop participants, you can click on their name to go to their post, or you can click the next button to go to the next post in line. Happy crafting!
This month’s theme is Sweet Treat - a 3D item.
I'm so glad that you are here!
I have a treat bag and matching card for you today.  This bag has been around for a while.  I have  updated it with current supplies.  Warning!  This post is rather lengthy.  There's a video as well.

Country Floral Lane bag and card Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
I'm using the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper for both of these projects.  Begin with 2 matching sheets of this paper both cut to 6 x 6.  Determine if the designer paper you are using has a  directionality.  If so you'll want to place the top of your paper so that it is along the left side of the Simply Scored.  Score at 3/4.  Turn your paper and score the other 3 sides at 1 1/2.  Do this for both of your papers.
When typing up this post I decided I needed more pictures to explain.  I had to change designer papers because I had used all of the other one.  This one is still from Country Floral Lane.  Please excuse that.  I think it's easier done than said.  This paper may show the directionality thing a little better.

Country Floral Lane bag close up of scoring Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
Fold and burnish the folds with your Bone Folder.  The top smaller fold will be folded down.  All of the other folds are mountain folds.  One one of the papers cut out the bottom left and right corners on the score lines with your Paper Snips.  Remember that the top fold is the smallest one.  On the other piece cut from the side on the bottom score line into the next score line on both sides.

Add a piece of cardboard from a pack of designer paper cut 1 3/8 x 2 7/8 to the bottom of the piece that has the missing corners.

Here it is turned to the other side.

Country Floral Lane bag other side after gluing together at the bottom Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
You will glue the center little flaps next.  Put glue on the side that has the print of the outside of the bag.  You will glue these to the inside of the bag.  Glue to the same piece of paper (the one that just has the slits cut out.  This will allow that front of the finished bag to look nicer.
Glue the sides of the bag to the outside.
I added glue dots under the top folded down flap where it stuck out a little on each side.

To decorate the bag, cut a tag from coordinating designer paper from the Country Floral Lane paper.  Use the second largest more ornate tag from the Tailored Made Tags dies.
The plain and detailed leaves are cut from Mint Macaron using the Summer Shadows dies.  Glue together and add with dimensionals to the tag.
The white flowers are also cut from the Summer Shadows dies.  You'll cut 3 of the smaller flower in Basic White.  Curl the petals with your Bone Folder and attach the flowers with glue dots setting eac flower just a little askew from the others.  For the center of the flower use the Hydrangea dies.  I cut 3 from designer paper.  Use that long die with lots of flowers attached.  Glue together a little askew.  Take some kind of rounded end (I used an old paper piercer) and put it in the center of the flowers.  Push into a soft surface like the Paper Pierce Mat to get some dimension.  Glue to the center of the flower.  Add the flower with a dimensional.

Country Floral Lane bag close up of tag Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Crinkled Seam Binding Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
The tiny tag is made using the Hydrangea Haven stamp set and the Hydrangea dies.  Use Petal Pink to stamp.  I added this with a glue dot at the hole and a dimensional out near the end.
Take the white twine from the Baker's Twine Essentials Pack and color with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.
Add a bow just under the flower and a little twine at the end of the tag.
Use the Elegant Faceted Gems to embellish.
Add the tag with dimensionals to the bag.
For the handles color White Crinkled Seam Binding with the Dark Petal Pink Blend.  I used 2 pieces about 10 inches long.  Punch holes on each side.  Pull the twine through.  Usually, you can just tie a knot and you'll be good to go.  The seam binding would pull through even with the knot.  I used some invisible tape to hold it on the inside.

I added a 3 x 3 card to accompany my bag.  There are 3 x 3 white envelopes on page 137 in the annual catalog.  They come in a pack of 40.

Country Floral Lane gift card Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
I cut a 3 x 6 piece of Thick Basic White cardstock.  Score at 3.  Add a piece of designer paper cut to 2 7/8 x 2 7/8.
Use the Tailor Made Tags dies to cut another tag the same size as above from Basic White.  This tag is actually too long.  I show in the video how you can shorten the tag.
Cut the detailed leaves using the Summer Shadows dies and Mint Macaron cardstock.
Cut the flower from coordinating paper using the same dies.
Stamp and cut out another small tag from Basic White using the Hydrangea Haven stamp set and Hydrangea dies.
Country Floral Lane gift card close up Tailor Made Tags Hydrangea Haven Hydrangea dies Summer Shadows dies Basic White 3 x 3 envelopes Baker's Twine Essentials Pack Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create
Assemble all of your pieces and add a bow.  Again color the white twine with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.
Add more designer paper to the flap of the envelope.  That's also in the video.

There you have it.  Here's my video.

I hope you'll contine on the hop.  There are some great 3D ideas and Valentines as well.  You don't want to miss any of them.

Punch Party Valentine

For the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #650 we are using the colors Flirty Flamingo, Real Red, and Bermuda Bay.

CCMC650

These colors made me think of Valentine's Day.  It's this Sunday, you know!

CCMC #650 Punch Party by Jo Anne Hewins

The base of this card is Bermuda Bay measuring 4 1/4 x 11, score and fold at 5 1/2.  Use the Dainty Diamonds Embossing Folder on the front of the card.

The designer paper is from the Brights 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.  The Bermuda Bay dots is 1 1/4 x 4 1/4.  Cut one of the labels, 2nd largest, from the words paper using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  Add that label in the center of the card with dimensionals.

Stamp the saying on Basic White in Real Red.  The saying is from the Punch Party stamp set.  This set is available free as a Host Reward for an order of $300 during Sale-a-Bration.  Punch this out with the heart punch from the Heart Punch Pack.  Punch a scallop heart from Real Red card stock.  Layer the two and glue to the center of the label.

CCMC #650 Punch Party Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Tie a bow with the red ribbon from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack and attach with a rolled up glue dot on the heart.

Use the Small Bloom Punch to punch 4 Real Red flowers, Regals 6 x 6, and 5 Flirty Flamingo flowers, Brights 6 x 6.  some of these will be used on the inside of the card.  Use a regular hole punch for the flower centers.  All are from the Bermuda Bay papers from Brights.  Add the centers to the flowers.  Put the flower on a foam mat and press down in the center.  I used the wrong end of one of our retired paper piercers.  This gives the flower a little dimension.  Add to the card.

Embellish with some Basic Red Rhinestones.

CCMC #650 Punch Party Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, the saying is from the stamp set Meant To Be.  You can see from the picture just what you need to do.  Follow the lead from the front of the card.

A Valentine Using the Heart Punch Pack

Valentine's Day is this Sunday!  Are you ready?  I have a card for you today that might give you a little spark.  It uses some of our favorites from the Annual catalog with a little of the Punch Party stamp set thrown in.  The Punch Party stamp set can be earned for free with an order of $300 or more during Sale-a-Bration.  Here is the card.

Valentine Heart Punch Pack by Jo Anne Hewins

This is one of those cards that uses a lot of different products.  I love picking from here and there.  It's so easy because Stampin' Up! coordinates so well.

The base is Real Red 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

The patterned paper is from the Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper.  It has that bit of gold to make the card special.  Cut it to 4 x 5 1/4.

For the band across cut a piece of Gold Foil to 4 x 1 1/4.  Run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Scripty 3D Embossing Folder.  When you attach this piece across the middle, make sure that the writing goes the right way.

Cut the 2nd largest Stitched Nested Label from Basic White.  Run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder.  I think it's important to center the label on the folder so that the design looks centered.  It makes a difference in the long run.  Add to the center of the card with dimensionals.

Valentine Heart Punch Pack Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Stamp the saying in Real Red ink using the Punch Party stamp set on Basic White.  Punch with the plain heart from the Heart Punch Pack.  Punch a Real Red heart with the scallop punch.  Adhere the two and then glue to the center of the label.

Add a bow knot using the Real Red Double-Stitched Satin Ribbon with a glue dot.

Embellish with the Gold Glitter Enamel Dots.

There you go!

Valentine Heart Punch Pack Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside, stamp the saying in Real Red.  This saying comes from the Happy Thoughts stamp set.  It is found in the Jan-June Mini.

The hearts are cut out using the Stitched Be Mine dies from the Annual.  I used the die that cuts out a bunch of little hearts at one time.  Of course you could use the heart frame cut out that it makes too.
