Cards- Valentine's Day

Be Mine Valentine, Paper Pumpkin for January

Do you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin?  If you do, you know the joy of getting that little orange red box in the mail.  I don't look at any of the posts or spoilers online.  I want to be surprised!  So, spoiler alert.  Today I have some alternative projects for the Be Mine Valentine January Paper Pumpkin.  The neat part about this kit is that it coordinates with the Animal Expedition Suite found on pages 26 and 27 of the Annual catalog.  There is the Animal Outing stamp set, the Animal Friends Thinlits Dies, and the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper.  Here's a video of the kit.

I made two of the treats.  They are so cute.  This kit has supplies to make 24 of these treats!  Wow!

The pillow boxes have designs on both sides so you can use either side.  Of course there are directions, but you can go rogue and do it your way.

I'd like to show you two alternatives for the kit.  I will be using some outside supplies.

Be Mine Valentine Paper Pumpkin for January alternate card 2 by Jo Anne Hewins

I absolutely love how this card turned out!  The card base is standard A2 size and is Lemon Lime Twist card stock.  The next layer is from the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper in Basic Gray cut at 4 x 5 1/4.  Add a banner of the Lemon Lime Twist  patterned paper.  It measures 1 1/8 x 4.  Run this through the Big Shot with the stem from the Animal Friends Framelits Dies.  I had never noticed this framelit.  It's really neat.  Some of the leaves do not cut out completely.  Bend them up.  Use the Banner Triple Punch to notch the ends.  Roll the ends up a little with your Bone Folder.  Cut a frame from the pillow box using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  There will be  folds through the center of the frame, but they do not really show up.  Add the kangaroo from the kit on the outside of the frame.  Cut one of the paper hearts from the kit at an angle so that it appears to be stuck into the pouch of the kangaroo. Cut apart the chameleons and put one on each lower corner.  The rhino has been cut from the Animal Expedition paper using the Animal Friends Framelits. Add inside the frame.  I did fussy cut the branch from the designer paper.  The sentiment is from the Paper Pumpkin kit.  Stamp in Melon Mambo.  Add an enamel heart.

This card has a standard base in Lemon Lime Twist.  Using the Paper Pumpkin stamp set, stamp the chameleon in the same color randomly around the outside of the front.  The Whisper White card stock measures 3 x 4 1/4.  Stamp the same chameleon in Pool Party around the outside of this paper.  The next layer is 2 1/2 x 3 3/4.  It is the Lemon Lime Twist paper from the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper.  Add this layer with dimensionals.  Now adhere the inside of the rectangle cut from the card above using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  I used the Pool Party side.  The sentiment is from the Animal Outing stamp set.  Stamp on Whisper White in Blushing Bride ink.  The Whisper White rectangle is 1 1/2 x 2 3/8.  Add some the Blushing Bride enamel hearts around the sentiment.  You'll want to use dimensionasl to add this layer.  Add the chameleons from the kit.  Glue where the die cut is on the surface of the layer and mini dimensionals where it hangs over the edge.

Stamping Around the World Blog Hop for January

Welcome to the Stamping Around the World Blog Hop for January.  This is our first blog hop and I'm so excited!

Stamping Around the World Blog Hop

This amazing group of stampers from around the globe have joined forces to offer you a fabulous tutorial of 10 cards.  This is our first month.  I can definitely say that I'm very proud to be a part of this group.  We decided that you just might want to get to know us a little better.   This blog hop will be perfect!  I'll get back to the tutorial a little later.

Our theme this time will be to use the same stamp set we featured in the tutorial.  This way, you'll get yet another sample for the stamp sets used.  I used the Wonderful Romance bundle.  Here is my card for today.

Wonderful Romance sentiment card by Jo Anne Hewins

I wanted to try using the technique of using blends with gold embossing.  I love how this card turned out.  It isn't that hard, but it is a little time consuming.  You'll also need the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies found on page 28 of the Occasions catalog.  The picture is stuck in a corner and might be easy to overlook.

Start with a card base of Shaded Spruce that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

Cut a frame using the largest two rectangle dies and a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White.  Set aside.

Take a piece of Shaded Spruce that is 4 x 5 1/4.  Rub the Embossing Buddy over the paper.  Stamp over this paper randomly with Versamark and the largest leaf cluster stamp.  Add Gold Emboss Powder and heat with the Heat Tool.  Now using the 2nd largest rectangle, and skip three to the next to cut a frame from this paper.

Stamp the sentiment from Wonderful Romance in Shaded Spruce in the center of a 2 1/2 x 4 Whisper White piece.  Cut using the smallest rectangle that you just used.

Add the Shaded Spruce frame to the card front centering as best as you can.  Now add the white frame on the outside.  I added this thinner one after the spruce to help keep it straight.  Put the last rectangle on the inside of the spruce frame.

Stamp 3 of the larger leaf clusters, 4 of the smaller leaf clusters, and 15 flowers in Versamark on Whisper White.  It's great to use up some of your white scraps.  Work in groups.  Stamp in Versamark, Gold Emboss Powder, and heat until all are done.  Use the Light and Dark Shaded Spruce and the Light and Dark Lovely Lipstick Blends to color these.  Cut out using the coordinating Wonderful Floral Framelits.  This is a lot to cut out.  This set of framelits does have 4 of the tiny flower dies so you can cut out a lot at one time!  Add these around the frame.  Don't cover up the beautiful embossing on the spruce frame.  I did put Mini Dimensionals under the outer leaf of the large clusters.  Glue the rest.  Add the flowers with glue dots.

This is so pretty in real life.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #544 Hey Love

Welcome once again to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  Today we have a sketch.

CCMC544

I used the Hey Love stamp set for my card along with the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper.  Here is my card.

CCMC #544 Hey Love by Jo Anne Hewins

I love this little otter.  My neice Alison loves sea otters and I always think of her when I see them.  I think she would love this card.  Don't tell her, I just might send it to her!

The card base is Fresh Fig measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

The next layer is Balmy Blue.  I used the Seaside Embossing Folder on this layer to make you think of the otter floating on the ocean.

Let's talk about the patterned papers in the background.  The wavy look paper in multiple colors measures 2 x 4 1/2.  The Mint Macaron paper is 1 1/4 x 3 3/4.  The Fresh Fig strip is 1/2 x 3 3/4.    There is a Tranquil Tide strip that is 1/4 inch wide that is just tucked in at each side.

CCMC#544 Hey Love close up by Jo Anne Hewins

For the circle, first cut the wavy Tranquil Tide paper.  In my mind this is sea weed.  You just may need to stretch your imagination.  I used the swirly die from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.  I hadn't used these in a while.  It's a little sad that we tend to forget the old stuff when the new comes in.  Glue this down to a piece of the Balmy Blue designer paper.  Cut using the second largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  Cut a scallop circle using the Layering Circles Framelits.  This is also from the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper.  All the patterned papers on this card are from that pack.  Glue the big circles to the card.

Stamp the otter in Memento Black ink on Whisper White card stock.  Color the otter in Light and Dark Crumb Cake and just a little of the Light Soft Suede Blends.  I tried to use the Color Lifter a little on the stomach and face.  Color the heart with a Fresh Fig Stampin' Write marker, cut it out, and place in the otter's hands.  Cut out the otter and add him to the card with dimensionals.

For the saying, stamp on white scraps in Fresh Fig.  Cut around the words and add them to the banner.

Here is the inside of the card.  I used the same blend colors except I added some of the Light Balmy Blue Blend around the otter.

The Skunk's Name is Flower

So, when you see my card today, you might just wonder what I was thinking.  There are beautiful flowers and a skunk!  First, here's the card.

All That You Are and Hey Love by Jo Anne Hewins

That skunk is so cute!  Remember the skunk in Bambi?  His name was Flower!  In my mind, it makes perfect sense to use the All That You Are stamp set with the Hey Love stamp set.  That was my thinking and I'm sticking to it!  Now let me address that fact that I completely colored the head of this skunk backwards.  Yes, the stripe should be white and the face dark.  I made 13 of these cards and colored all of those skunks and it never entered my mind that it was all wrong.  Later, I realized my mistake.  These were swap cards and they had all been sent in the mail.  Oh well, I apologize for my mistake.  He is still cute, though.

The card base is Old Olive measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  The Flirty Flamingo layer is 3 3/4 x 5.  The Whisper White layer is 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.

Using the Stamparatus stamp the large flower stamp on the white layer.  Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Color this in using the Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo Blends, the Light and Dark Old Olive Blends, the Light Mossy Meadow Blend, and the Dark Daffodil Blend.  Stamp the saying in the lower left of the card.  Run this layer through the Big Shot with the Subtle embossing folder.

Run a length of the Old Olive Linen Thread around this layer.  Make a bow to add later with a glue dot.

All That You Are and Hey Love close up by Jo Anne Hewins

Stamp the skunk on Whisper White and punch this out with the 2" Circle Punch.  Cut the Flirty Flamingo circle using the Layering Circles Framelits.  Use the Light and Dark Basic Black and the Light Flirty Flamingo Blend to color the skunk.  Add this layer with dimensionals.  Stamp, color, and cut out a small flower and leaf.  Did you notice that the small flower in this set can be cut out using the Frosted Bouquet Framelits that are carried over from the Holiday catalog?  I love that!  You will need to fussy cut the leaf.  Use glue or a glue dot where the flower overlaps the circles and use dimensionals otherwise.

All That You Are and Hey Love inside by Jo Anne Hewins

The inside of this card is short and sweet.  Color one of the Heart Epoxy Droplets with the Dark Flirty Flamingo Blend.

Now since I did mess up that sweet little skunk, I changed this card.  Here is my new and improved card.  Maybe I should just say different card.

All That You Are Alternative B'day by Jo Anne Hewins

What do you think?  It's now a birthday card.  The saying is from the All That You Are stamp set.  Punch with the 1 1/4 Circle Punch.  Punch the scallop Flirty Flamingo circle with the 1 3/8 Scallop Circle punch.  I did have to move the bow, too.

Make another flower and leaf to cover the saying that was in the lower corner.

So which one do you like best?  I love comments!

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #543 Bloom by Bloom

It's Thursday so I welcome you to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #543.  This week we are using the colors Calypso Coral, Call Me Clover, and Night of Navy.

CCMC543

I think I've come up with a great card using the Bloom by Bloom stamp set and the Happiness Bloom Designer Series Paper on page 25 of the Occasions catalog.

CCMC #543 Bloom by Bloom alternative ribbon by Jo Anne Hewins

There's lots of new product on this card.  Let's get started.

The card base is Night of Navy cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

The patterned paper is from the Happiness Blooms Designer Series Paper.  The stripe is 3/4 x 5 1/4.  The flowered paper is 1 1/4 x 5 1/4, and the dotted paper is 2 x 5 1/4.  Just butt each paper against each other with no overlapping.

Wrap Night of Navy Medium Baker's Twine around the card between the two smaller pieces of patterned paper.  I just taped it under where the label goes.  Make a triple bow and add later with a glue dot.

Cut a Whisper White label using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies.  Did you notice these on page 28?  They have that double stitching that is wonderful!  The love is cut from Calypso Coral using the Well Written Thinlits from page 27.  The Well Said bundle has so many words both in stamps and thinlits.  It's a little expensive, but you've got to have it!  To make it a little easier use the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to make the word a sticker.  The little word you is from the Well Said stamp set.  Just cut around it.  Add with a dimensional after the flowers and leaves are in place.

CCMC#543 Bloom by Bloom close up by JO Anne Hewins

Bloom by Bloom is a photopolymer stamp set.  I waned to get good coverage stamping the flowers with Night of Navy.  I set them up on the Stamparatus.  These flowers will be cut out with your snips.  I used scraps of Whisper White to stamp.  Just anchor your small piece of paper with the magnet so that the flower stamps on it.  Then you can stamp and reink and stamp again until the flower is perfect.  Stamp three of these.  Do the same with the leaves.  I made 5.   Just move the paper around to find an empty space on the scrap and stamp.  Cut out the flowers and leaves and then add them to the card with dimensionals.  Where the flower or leaf is on the label, just glue it.  Don't forget to add the coral dots to the center of the flower.  I did not use the Stamparatus for that.

CCMC #543 Bloom by Bloom inside by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of the card.  For the saying, from Well Said, cover the first word you with a piece of tape.  Ink the stamp with Night of Navy, remove the tape, and stamp.  Cut the word you using the Well Written thinlits and add to the front.  That just adds a little more interest and ties it to the front of the card.  Stamp another flower.
