A Happy Hibiscus Dies Study in Black and White

I've always loved black and white together.  I haven't made  in a black and white card in a long time.  On a challenge from my upline, I decided to make another.  Here's my card.

Black and White Happy Hibiscus dies Artful Amaryllis Cute Crochet EF Distressed Tile EF Black and Vanilla Large Check Ribbon Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

It's prettier in person, but I think I like it.

The base is Basic Black 4 1/4 x 11, scored at 5 1/2.  Burnish the fold with a Bone Folder.

The layer of Basic White measures 3 3/8 x 4 5/8.

Next comes a layer of Basic Black Two Tone 12 x 12 card stock.  This paper is new and is a part of our new scrapbooking line.  The paper is Basic Black on one side and a lighter shade on the back.  It has a white core.  Cut this paper to 3 1/4 x 4 1/2.  Run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Cute Crochet Embossing Folder.  I placed the paper in the folder so that the Stampin' Up! symbol showed through correctly and the darker black side was up.  Now sand the paper.  I used a sanding block that is really for your nails.  It worked fine.

Glue the sanded black paper to the white paper and then glue to the center of the card front.

For the vase, cut a tag from Basic White using the Greetings of the Season dies.  Run the tag through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Distressed Tile EF.  Cut away the end with the hole just a little below the midpoint. Tie some of the Black and Vanilla Large Check Ribbon around the top part of the vase in a knot.  Adhere this to the bottom center of the focal layer.

The Happy Hibiscus dies has two sizes of flowers.  There are two of the small and two of the large.  Cut those out of Basic White 3 or 4 times.  Cut out 4 of the detailed leaves from the lighter side of the Two Tone Black.  Using a Stampin' Pierce Mat, press a flower in the center with a pierce tool blunt end.  It will make the petals rise and separate a little.  This will add a little dimension to the flowers.  Add the flowers with glue dots above the vase.  Add in the leaves.  I did have to trim the leaves a little to get them to fit in behind the flowers.  I used glue dots to add the leaves as well.

Add Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems to the centers of the flowers using small and larger ones.

The saying is from the Artful Amaryllis stampset.  Stamp in Memento Black on a 1/2 inch strip of Basic White.  Notch at the end of the saying.  Glue the strip near the bottom of the vase.  Add one more gem.

For the inside use a piece of Basic White 4 x 5 1/4.  Emboss this layer with the Cut Crochet EF.  Cut a layer of Basic Black that is 3 x 4 1/4.  The white layer is 2 7/8 x 4 1/8.  Glue all the layers.

So what do you think about the black and white card?  I really like how the Greetings of the Season die worked to make a vase!  Need supplies?  I'm happy to help you!

Sentimental Wishes Plus So Many More Products!

I'm using the Sentimental Wishes stamp set today, but only covers a little bit of what I'm using.  I just love taking my Stampin' Up! products and mixing them with other products.  It just shows how our products can coordinate with each other.  All you need is a little imagination!

Painted Forest dies Sentimental Wishes Card A Little Bit Festive Snowflake Sky Country Woods DSP Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This card really started with the Night of Navy Gingham paper that is part of the A Little Bit Festive Specialty Designer Series Paper that actually has 12 x 12 paper and die cuts as well.  Find it on page 18 of the Sept-Dec Mini.

This is also a fun fold called the 1, 2, 3, Z Fold.  I've shared this fold with you before.

The base is Night of Navy 4 1/4 x 11.  Score this at 2 1/8, 4 1/4, and 5 1/2.  You'll need an additional piece of Night of Navy that measures 3 1/4 x 4 1/4.

Fold the card base in half at 5 1/2.  At the next score line fold back and then fold back again at the next score line.

The area between the first two folds will be glued down.  Some call this a 1, 2, 3, Z Book Fold.

Now we'll cut the gingham paper.  The length for each section will be 4 inches.  Cut one at 1 inch.  That makes it 1 x 4.  This piece goes on top of the section that was glued together.  Now we need a piece cut at 2 so that it is 2 x 4.  Glue this on the right of the inside of the card.  Leave borders that are all the same.

Cut a piece of Basic White that is 1 7/8 x 4.  Stamp the saying from Sentimental Wishes in Night of Navy.  Glue this beside of the gingham you just added.

You'll need one more piece of the gingham that is 1 7/8 x 4.  This will be glued beside of the white inside.  It actually will look like it is on the back of the front, and it is.

Painted Forest dies Sentimental Wishes A Little Bit Festive Snowflake Sky Country Woods DSP Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Close Up Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Now, we'll work on the extra piece of Night of Navy.  I'm pulling in the Country Woods Designer Series Paper for this.  Cut a piece of the dark blue to 3 x 4.  Use the Snowflake Sky embossing folder to add some dimension to the paper.  Use our Craft White pad and a sponge dauber to add a little white to the raised dots and snowflakes.

Cut the three trees in Basic White using the Frosted Forest dies.  You only need the trees themselves.  You might want to add an adhesive sheet to one side of the white.  This would turn your trees into stickers.  Of course glue works.  Add the trees to the blue designer paper.  Tear another piece of white that's about 1 1/2 x 3 1/4.  Add to the blue paper as well hiding the tree trunks.  Trim the white using the blue paper as a guide.  Stamp the saying from Sentimental Wishes in Night of Navy ink.  Glue all to the Night of Navy card stock extra piece.

Painted Forest dies Sentimental Wishes A Little Bit Festive Snowflake Sky Country Woods DSP Silver and White Sheer Ribbon Air View Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

You have a flap left from the base of the card.  This extra piece will be glued to it.  Add your glue to the flap area.  Place this piece anywhere you like best from side to side.  It MUST be even with the card base from top to bottom.

Now we'll add the finishing touches.  To the far right, I cut a bird and little branch from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper.  I just thought it needed a little something.  I've been accused of having a hard time just stopping when designing a card.  This might be the case.  Add Rhinestone Basic Jewels and a White Loose Snowflake.

On the front, add a bow of Silver & White Sheer Ribbon with a glue dot.  Add more rhinestones and snowflakes!  I love that mixture of the rhinestones and the snowflakes.

Thank you and I hope you like my card for today.  I do sell Stampin' Up! supplies and the links are at the end of the post!  Thanks again!

The Happy Hibiscus Bundle, Online Exclusives

Brand new Online Exclusives are being added to the Stampin' Up! Online Store beginning November 5th
You'll want to check it out for sure.  Just go here.  There are some great new products available.  Today I'm going to show you the Happy Hibiscus Hybrid Bundle.  What does hybrid mean?  This bundle has the Happy Hibiscus stamp set, the Happy Hibiscus dies and the Happy Hibiscus Hybrid Embossing Folder.  All three work together to bring you to new card making heights!

Happy Hibiscus Hybrid Bundle Glossy Dots Distressed Tile EF Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

Isn't this a beautiful card?  It uses all three of the Happy Hibiscus components.

The base of the card is Gorgeous Grape 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 4 1/4.

The next layer is Basic White cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Run it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine with the Happy Hibiscus Hybrid embossing folder.  That folder has depth and beauty to make every card special.  Glue the layer to the front of the card.

Next cut a layer of Gorgeous Grape 2 1/2 x 3 3/4.  We'll need another layer of Basic White 2 3/8 x 3 5/8.  Run this layer through the cut & emboss machine with the Distressed Tile embossing folder.  Glue this layer to the grape layer.

Now we are ready for stamping!  On Basic White, stamp the 3 flower outline stamp in Gorgeous Grape ink.  The flowers that go with this stamp are single and are fill in stamps.  Stamp in Highland Heather and then stamp off on scrap paper.  Then stamp on the outline image.  The photopolymer stamp makes it easy to line everything up.  The dark outline that was stamped also aids with lining up the stamp.  Do the same and stamp the other two flowers.

Happy Hibiscus Hybrid Bundle Glossy Dots Distressed Tile EF Close Up Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

I'm sorry about the shadow at the bottom of my picture.

Now we are ready to cut out the flowers.  The dies for the flowers will will fit on the corresponding flowers on the embossing folder.  You'll feel them fit into place.  This is the side that has the SU label on back.  Holding the dies in place, hold up the folder so that you can see through.  It's OK to add a little piece of post it or removeable tape to hold the dies in place.  Match up your stamping with the dies.  Again, you can add a little piece of something to hold it.  Carefully close the folder and run through the cut & emboss machine.

Not only does this cut out your three flowers separately, it embosses them at the same time!  It's like magic!

I made three sets of larger leaves and 2 sets of smaller leaves.  Stamp the outline stamps in Granny Apple Green.  Now stamp again stampin off and filling with the solid stamps.  Cut these out.

Arrange the flowers on the small layer.  I glued mine since I'm going to put the layer on with dimensionals.  Place the leaves.  These are glued as well.  Add the layer to the center of the card with dimensionals or Foam Adhesive Sheets.  I love the sheets!

The sentiment is stamped in Gorgeous Grape on Basic White.  Trim around it with Paper Snips.  Glue where you like it.

Finish the front of the card with Glossy Dots.

This is the inside of my card.  All of these images are cut using the Happy Hibiscus dies.  I used Granny Apple Green and Highland Heather.  Glossy Dots are used for the centers.  This is a completely different look!

A Masculine Card with Caring Leaves

I may start my post saying this is a masculine card, but the truth is, I would love to receive this card as well.  I'm a not so secret neutrals lover.   The card uses the Caring Leaves stamp set on page 59 of the September - December Mini Catalog.

Caring Leaves Stamp Set Card Sweet Days of Autumn DSP Black and Vanilla Large Check Ribbon Adhesive Backed Swirl Dots Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This is a super easy card.  Here are the details.

The base is Pecan Pie 4 1/4 x 11.  Score and fold at 5 1/2.  Around the edges of the front, stamp just the outline of the leaf here and there.  Turn the stamp to vary the parts that you'll see once the focal point is attached.  Stamp in Early Espresso.

There are several layers for this card.  The Early Espresso layer is 3 3/4 x 5.  The Basic Beige layer is 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.  The Sweet Days of Autumn Designer Series Paper is cut to 3 1/2 x 4 3/4.

Before attaching all of the layers, stamp the patterned paper.  Stamp in Early Espresso.  Stamp the outline of the stamp randomly over the card.  Don't be afraid to have parts of the leaves run off the page.  Now fill in the outlines with the other stamp.  You will still use Early Espresso.  You might note that my leaves are not all filled in perfectly.  Even though the stamps are photopolymer, I had a little trouble matching it all up.  Perfect is our goal, but not always mandatory.  I think mine looks fine.

Attach the three layers.

Color a length of the Black & Vanilla Large Check Ribbon with a Dark Pecan Pie blend.  Tie around the card layer and tie into a knot.  Trim the ends.

The saying for this card is from the Caring Leaves stamp set.  I stamped this on Pecan Pie scraps in Versamark.  Don't forget to use an Embossing Buddy on the card stock.  Then add the black embossing powder from the Basics Wow! Embossing Powders.  Heat with a Heat Tool.  Cut this out using the Nested Essentials dies.  Add with dimensionals begin careful to add at the top and bottom of the sentiment layer to avoid the ribbon.

Complete the card with the Adhesive-Backed Swirl Dots.

For the inside I did add an Early Espresso layer 3 3/4 x 5 and the Basic Beige layer at 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.  Stamp 2 leaves.

So there is a great masculine looking, but for anyone, card.  Hope you'll try it!

Sweet Days of Autumn DSP Fun Fold

The Sweet Days of Autumn Designer Series Paper is part of the September Scrapbooking Brochure recently released.  The paper is beautiful.  Different from many other packs, it has 4 sheets of each double sided design.  That's great if you are a demonstrator planning a class!  In a recent class, we made this this cute fun fold.

And here is the card open.

Sweet Days of Autumn DSP Autumn Leaves dies Spotlight on Nature dies Attention Shoppers Earth Tones Gems Open Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

This card is actually quite simple.  The base is Old Olive 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 2 1/8 and 4 1/4.  Use your Bone Folder to burnish the fold.  Fold the card in half and then fold the small section back , so you have a mountain fold and the center is a valley fold.

The Sweet Days of Autumn patterned papers are all cut the same size.  Each is 2 x 5 3/8.  Just glue in the appropriate spaces.  The Basic White is cut to 2 x 5 3/8 as well.

The saying is from the Artful Amaryllis stamp set stamped in Old Olive.

Sweet Days of Autumn DSP Autumn Leaves dies Spotlight on Nature dies Attention Shoppers Earth Tones Gems Close Up Jo Anne Hewins Luv 2 Create

To decorate the front begin with a circle cut from Cajun Craze.  My circle is cut using the Spotlight on Nature dies.

The deer is cut using the Stylish Shapes dies.  Find the animal you want and cut.  There are several animals to choose.  Glue this animal to the Cajun Craze circle.  Add the circle to the card with dimensionals.  Add these so that one side remains free with no adhesive.

The leaves are cut using the Autumn Leaves dies.  I used Old Olive, Crushed Curry, and Cajun Craze.

Glue the base of the leaf extending out from the circle toward the center of the card.  For the other two leaves I put glue dots at the base of each and a mini dimensional out toward the edges.

The happy birthday is from the Attentions Shoppers stamp set.  Just stamp in Old Olive on a 1/2 strip of Basic White.  Glue wherever you think fits best.

Add some of the Earth Tones Shimmer Gems.

That's all there is to it!  I told you it was simple!
