A Happy Hibiscus Dies Study in Black and White

I've always loved black and white together.  I haven't made  in a black and white card in a long time.  On a challenge from my upline, I decided to make another.  Here's my card.

It's prettier in person, but I think I like it.

The base is Basic Black 4 1/4 x 11, scored at 5 1/2.  Burnish the fold with a Bone Folder.

The layer of Basic White measures 3 3/8 x 4 5/8.

Next comes a layer of Basic Black Two Tone 12 x 12 card stock.  This paper is new and is a part of our new scrapbooking line.  The paper is Basic Black on one side and a lighter shade on the back.  It has a white core.  Cut this paper to 3 1/4 x 4 1/2.  Run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Cute Crochet Embossing Folder.  I placed the paper in the folder so that the Stampin' Up! symbol showed through correctly and the darker black side was up.  Now sand the paper.  I used a sanding block that is really for your nails.  It worked fine.

Glue the sanded black paper to the white paper and then glue to the center of the card front.

For the vase, cut a tag from Basic White using the Greetings of the Season dies.  Run the tag through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Distressed Tile EF.  Cut away the end with the hole just a little below the midpoint. Tie some of the Black and Vanilla Large Check Ribbon around the top part of the vase in a knot.  Adhere this to the bottom center of the focal layer.

The Happy Hibiscus dies has two sizes of flowers.  There are two of the small and two of the large.  Cut those out of Basic White 3 or 4 times.  Cut out 4 of the detailed leaves from the lighter side of the Two Tone Black.  Using a Stampin' Pierce Mat, press a flower in the center with a pierce tool blunt end.  It will make the petals rise and separate a little.  This will add a little dimension to the flowers.  Add the flowers with glue dots above the vase.  Add in the leaves.  I did have to trim the leaves a little to get them to fit in behind the flowers.  I used glue dots to add the leaves as well.

Add Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems to the centers of the flowers using small and larger ones.

The saying is from the Artful Amaryllis stampset.  Stamp in Memento Black on a 1/2 inch strip of Basic White.  Notch at the end of the saying.  Glue the strip near the bottom of the vase.  Add one more gem.

For the inside use a piece of Basic White 4 x 5 1/4.  Emboss this layer with the Cut Crochet EF.  Cut a layer of Basic Black that is 3 x 4 1/4.  The white layer is 2 7/8 x 4 1/8.  Glue all the layers.
