NC Blog Hop for August Flower Power!
August 25, 2024
Here in North Carolina there's a little hint that summer might be ending. It might actually just be the date on the calendar and the idea that school is starting. I'm telling myself that cooler days are ahead, but how far ahead! That is the question! Welcome to the NC Demo Blog Hop for August. We show up the last Sunday of every month at 8:00 pm.
Our theme this month is Flower Power! Be still my heart! Do I have some flower stamps? I can't seem to resist them. You might have come from Tina Lesson post. If so, I know you loved her project and I'm glad you continued on with the hop. If you are starting here I really think you are going to love my card!
But first.
I planted zinnias this year! I'm so excited and pleased that they turned out so well, Yes, I'm surprised! One day, when rain was coming, it just went out and emptied the packet. That's it. They grew! I'm saving the seeds and next year they are going everywhere. I LOVE looking at my zinnias.
Why did I buy a packet of zinnia seeds? Stampin' Up! came out with the Simply Zinnias bundle in the Online Exclusives. Here's my card! Are you ready? I'm noticing that this bundle is not available at present, but it will be back soon! Just keep checking in early September.
Start with a card base of Thick Basic White 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2. Use your Bone Folder to burnish the fold making sure that the fold is straight and corners matching.
Cut the patterned paper from the Flowering Zinnias Designer Series Paper to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. Hint: This paper is 15% off until the end of August. This layer will cover the entire front of the card.
The hard part about this card is all of the die cutting. I do my cutting at my table in front of a TV. You will need:
For each flower cut both sets of petals, one center in Crushed Curry, one star halo in Daffodil Delight. I made up that name. 2 flowers in Melon Mambo, 2 flowers in Daffodil Delight, 2 flowers in Flirty Flamingo, and one in Crushed Curry. So you'll need 7 centers and 7 star halos.
You'll also need 6 or 7 leaves and 6 or 7 of the stems for the buds in Old Olive.
Place flowers first making sure that you separate the colors somewhat. It's OK to run off the edge of the card. We'll trim later. Glue the flowers just in the center.
This card has lots of texture. I have a video to show how I slipped in the buds and the leaves. I like that the buds are little surprises. Did you notice the little smiley face in the olive part of the buds? So cute! Since I only glued the center of the flowers, it's pretty easy to slip in the leaves and buds. Just add a little glue for the buds. For the leaves, I curled the leaves with my Bone Folder, added a little glue near the bottom and slipped them in.
The saying is stamped on a 1/2 inch strip of Basic White. Stamp with Memento Black. Add with Mini Dimensionals. Trim anything that extends beyond the card base!
I'll put the video here for you. Let me know what you think.
If you mail this card, the card will be flat but still has all the texture. If you can hand the card in person, just fluff it. You can even fluff some of the petals.
I tried to show some of the flowers on the video, but that didn't work very well. They are soooooo pretty!
Inside the card, I put another one of the buds with the entire leaf.
Next up is Toni Campana. She is so talented. I can't wait to see her project! I know you'll love it, too.
