Lighthouse Point Bundle to Make the Cape Lookout Lighthouse

The Cape Lookout Lighthouse is the most southern lighthouse in North Carolina.  It is one of our lighthouses guarding the Outer Banks.  Our NC shores have been called the Graveyard of the Atlantic because so many ships have been wrecked over the years.  In order to differentiate the lighthouses, several have been painted in distinct patterns so that ships recognize where they are.  Today I share the Cape Lookout Lighthouse on my card using the Lighthouse Point bundle.

I was so excited to see that the Black and White Design Designer Series Paper from the July-August Mini could be used to cut out this lighthouse.  I'm thinking we could make the Hatteras and the Bodie Island lighthouses as well from that paper.  I haven't tried yet.

I began with a base of Balmy Blue 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

Next there is a Basic Black layer 4 x 5 1/4.  I used the Layering Rectangle dies to cut out the center of this layer.  Put some of the Adhesive Sheets on one side.  Use that paper to cut the top of the lighthouse, the railing, and the birds.  The Lighthouse dies were used for the top, and railing.  The birds are cut with the Waves dies.

The next layer is Balmy Blue 3 7/8 x 5 1/8.  Use the In the Clouds folder to emboss this layer.  Cut the clouds from Basic White using the Waves dies.  You can go ahead and add the birds and clouds with glue.

Cut the entire solid lighthouse from Basic White.  For the top itself, piece in some Balmy Blue for the windows.  Glue to the white top.  Add the railing.

The patterned paper for the lighthouse reaches from the bottom of the flared out top to the base.  I cut off that white base part rounding the bottom just a little.

For the sandy land area, I used the paper from the Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper.  I know that seems weird, but I think it looks fine.

The plants are cut from Pear Pizzazz using the Perfect Plants dies.  Make as many as you wish and place them where you want them.  The sticks are from the Harvest dies and are cut from Soft Suede.  I trimmed that piece down and added bits where I wanted.

The saying is from Lighthouse Point stamped in Memento Black.  I used the die from Holly Berry dies.  I ended up cutting off the ends to make the saying a little smaller.  You could probably just cut around the saying.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse is on Harkers Island.  You have to go by boat or ferry to reach it.  You might even spy some of the wild horses on your way out there!
