What's Cookin' Blackboard Card

I teach a class each month at the Whisk & Barrel Cafe in Newton, NC.  They are also a great bakery.  The inspiration for this card comes from a blackboard they have as a decor piece.

Whisk & Barrel Blackboard

So this is the card I made with this inspiration.

What's Cookin' Blackboard Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The What's Cookin' bundle was perfect to make this card for the Whisk & Barrel.  This card begins with a base of Thick Basic White 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4.

The designer paper is from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper pack.  The main piece measures 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  There is a strip of wood look paper at the bottom that is 1 x 4 1/4.  This paper is on the back of the larger piece.

For the blackboard, cut a piece of Basic Black card stock to 3 x 3 1/2.  I lined up the three cooking tools on one stamp and stamped in Versamark.  Add white embossing powder from the Basics Embossing Powders.  Heat with the Heat Tool.  Rub some white ink over the surface to make it look like a blackboard.  Use a sponge dauber and White Craft Stampin' Ink.

The word SWEET is from the Sweet Strawberries stamp set and the word LIFE is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.  Stamp the sayings on Basic White using Versamark.  Add black emboss powder from the Basics powders.  Heat with Heat Tool and cut around the words needed.  Add to the blackboard in the center.

What's Cookin' Blackboard Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Cut the cutting board with the Cookin' dies from Crumb Cake card stock.  Using a Blending Brush add some Early Espresso ink to help the pattern show up better.  Add with dimensionals.

The bowl is stamped in Memento Black on designer paper from the Pattern Party Host Designer Series Paper.  It's the Pool Party dots paper.  Cut it out with the dies along with the whisk and the spatula.  Add all to the card.  The bowl and whisk are on dimensionals.  I put a dimensional piece on part of the handle of the whisk and a little glue on the part that is on top of the bowl.  The spatula is glued down to look like it's in the bowl.

The saying is from the What's Cookin' stamp set.  Stamp in Memento Black on Pool Party.  Trim.  Part is glued to the cutting board and part has a dimensional piece.

What's Cookin' Blackboard Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, all of the stamping is in Memento Black and from the What's Cookin' stamp set.

Thanks for spending some time with me today.  I hope you found some inspiration.

NC Demo Blog Hop Let's Think Summer

Welcome to all of you!  The NC Demo Blog Hop takes place on the last Sunday of each month at 8:00 pm ET.  This month our theme is summer!  That's a big topic and can cover a plethora of topics.  You might have just come from Amy's blog.  I know you enjoyed her project!  I can't wait to see what everyone has to share.

Join us blog

When you have the topic of summer, you can go anywhere.  It took a while to decide, but I have settled on flowers.  I'm not the best grower of flowers, but I love them so much.  I do put boxes of flowers around my deck every year.  I have those boxes that fit on the rails.

IMG_20210625_102837508_HDR

Simple, but they give me joy.

My card does not look like this, but they were the inspiration for the card.

NC Demo Blog Hop for June Plentiful Plants by Jo Anne Hewins

Let's get down to the details.  The base of the card is Thick Basic White cut to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 4 1/4.

The brick paper is from the Bloom Where You're Planted Designer Series Paper.  Cut it to 4 x 5 1/4.    Add a 1 x 4 strip of wood look paper from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper to the bottom.

Thanks to Jean for letting me use your Seasonal Basket dies.  I  cut the basket from Crumb Cake and from Soft Suede.  I actually cut a lot to use later, too.  I think I'll probably be adding the Season's Blessings Bundle to my list.  It's on page 94.  Simply trace around the basket to add a color behind.  Fussy cut slightly inside your pencil line and glue together.  I used Soft Suede behind the Crumb Cake basket and Early Espresso behind the Soft Suede basket.  Look at the basket on the right.  It is shorter than the basket on the left.  All I did was cut off a few rows!  I didn't want them to look exactly the same.

Fill your basket with leaves, lots of leaves.  I used the larger bundle of leaves from the Plentiful Plants stamp set and the smaller group of 3 leaves.  The larger group is stamped in Evening Evergreen and the smaller group is stamped in Soft Succulent.  I think I stamped about 4 or 5 of each.  Cut these out using the Perfect Plants dies.  Start just at the top of the basket and build up.  I did trim some of the leaves into singles or doubles so they would fit just where needed.  There is no right or wrong.  Just make it pleasing to you.  Some have dimensionals and some are adhered with glue or glue dots.

Now add flowers.  I used the Pierced Blooms dies for this.  Thanks to my sister Martha for helping me to see how nicely the Petal Pink looks with the brick paper.  Who knew?  I think this card did take a village!

The sentiment is from the Plentiful Plants stamp set.  It's stamped in Evening Evergreen.

Here is the inside of the card.  The saying is from Plentiful Plants.  Add leaves and flowers.  That's it.

There you go!  Stampin' Up! products work so well together!  I love pulling a little from here and there.

I'm so glad you joined me today.  Please continue on with the hop to get fantastic ideas to use for summer.  Next up is Toni.  You are sure to love her project.

A Simple 6 x 6 One Sheet Wonder Facebook Live for 6.23.2021

I had a request to show a sketch for a 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper One Sheet Wonder.  This means you cut your paper so that there is no waste.  We do hate to waste our paper! After doing some research, I found that there are many ways out there to cut your paper.  Today I'm sharing one of the easiest as part of my Facebook Live.  Perhaps in the coming weeks we can explore some others.

This week I'm going to start with the video.  We are making 4 cards and they are all very similar.

For today's One Sheet Wonder, we'll start with a pencil.  Place a mark 1 1/2 inches from the left side of your paper.  Turn one quarter turn and mark 1 1/2 inches from the left again.  Repeat and repeat until you have marked all four sides of the paper.  The video had some tips for cutting and also shows how to add a frame around each of your pieces if you desire to do so.  You'll be cutting across the sheets not quite the diagonal.

It's time for another Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  It's number 670 and this week we have a sketch.

CCMC670

For this card, I'm using the Meadow dies and the Pattern Party Host Designer Series Paper.

CCMC #670 Pattern Party Sketch Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a base of Thick Basic White that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 4 1/4.

The designer paper used for the larger pieces is from the Pattern Party Host Designer Series Paper.  The Night of Navy layer is cut to 3 x 5 1/4.  The Crushed Curry layer measures 3 x 4 1/4.  Did you know that the Pretty Flowers Embossing Folder will fit perfectly on this paper?  Match carefully and run through your Cut & Emboss Machine.  Since this is a thinner folder you will need the base plate and the 2 clear plates.

The smaller pieces of designer paper come from the Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper.  The Night of Navy is 1/2 x 3 7/8.  The Crushed Curry print if 1/2 x 3 3/8.  Stamp on this strip with a saying from the Inspired Thoughts stamp set.  Stamp in Night of Navy.

Tie a knot of Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon and attach with a glue dot.

CCMC #670 Pattern Party Sketch Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

From Night of Navy card stock cut 2 stems using the Meadow dies.  First, I suggest that you use some of the Adhesive Sheets on one side of the card stock.  You can turn your cut outs into stickers.  It's easy to add to the card.

CCMC#670 Pattern Party Sketch Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, I had a little of the embossed designer paper left over.  Add to the bottom of the card.  Mine measured 1 x 4 1/4.  Add a piece of a stem and a little butterfly.
