NC Demo Blog Hop for November Celebrating Christmas

Welcome to the NC Demo Blog Hop for November.  We have a fun hop celebrating Christmas colors whether they are traditional or just a little quirky.  You might have just come from Tracie's blog.  Great project, right!  If you are just starting here, then I do hope that you will visit everyone!  You'll be glad you did!

Join us blog

So we are thinking about the colors that say Christmas to us.  You probably aren't surprised, but I am a traditional person.  This picture really speaks to me.

Christmas Color Combo 4

If you have been to my house, you will see so much green.  It's my favorite color.  I love a classic simplicity.  Now I've never decorated my house like this, but I would love to!  My card is also inspired by Laurie Meier.  She demonstrated a slimline  card with a slider closure recently for the group.  I adapted her card to my design.

Slim Line Slider Card by Jo Anne Hewins

If I had a magic wand, I would wish this card could give me a big hug and just envelop me.  To me it says Peace on Earth!  The returning Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper is so pretty.

A slimline card fits into a regular business size envelope.  This kind of card has become popular over the last months.  I've been meaning to try one.  The card base is Thick Very Vanilla.  It is cut to 8 x 8 1/2.  Put the 8 inch side at the top and score at 2" and at 6" (2 inches from each side.)

Since this is a slider card, there needs to be a tiny space where the sides do not quite meet so there is room.  I did trim just a tiny bit to achieve this.

The Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper is cut to 1 7/8 x 8 3/8.

Slim Line Slider Card Project by Jo Anne Hewins

For the slider mechanism, you'll need two pieces of Very Vanilla 3 1/2 x 3 1/2.  You will also need 2 pieces of typing or thin paper paper the same size.  I used the Tin Tile 3D Embossing Folder for one of the vanilla papers.  Place the card stock so that the design of the folder is centered.  Score the other vanilla paper in the center at 1 3/4.  Fold the 2 pieces of typing paper in half as well.  It might be easiest to watch the video to assemble.  I think my words would probably be confusing.  Pictures speak clearly, I hope!  I'll just go ahead and add the video here.

To decorate the slider, cut 2 wreaths using the Wreath Builder dies.  One wreath is in Garden Green card stock and the other is from the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper.  Glue these down in the center with the patterned paper on the bottom.  Off set the wreaths.  I did add some mini dimensionals under some of the leaves to make them have dimension.

Add a bow using the Very Vanilla ribbon from the Forever Greenery Trim Ribbon Pack.  I used a glue dot.

The flower is cut using the Wreath Builders dies.  I cut two from Very Vanilla.  Punch a 1/2 inch circle of So Saffron card stock and add between the layers.  Off set the flowers.  Add the flower with a glue dot.

Add some of the Red Rhinestones!

The saying is from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set.  Stamp the saying in Real Red on Very Vanilla paper.  Fussy cut around the saying and clip a notch of each end.  Curl with a Bone Folder and then add to the slider with glue dots.

Wreath Builder Christmas Tag by Jo Anne Hewins

I also added a Christmas tag to match the card.  Cut Very Vanilla to 2 x 5 1/2.  Use the Tin Tile Embossing Folder again.  Make sure to center the designs.  The rest of the tag is made very similar to the card slider.

Cut the saying apart and add to the tag.  I added the pieces with glue dots.

Pair these together to make a striking ensemble.

Casing the August-December Catalog to Get New Ideas Facebook Live

Happy day to you.  My Facebook Live was delayed a few days, but I was able to get it in.  We made three cards using the August-December catalog for inspiration.  If you are ever stumped when you want to make a card, our catalogs are filled with wonderful ideas!  Here are the cards we made.

Facebook Live November 27th 2020 by Jo Anne Hewins

The first card I made was cased from a card on page 49 of the catalog.  It showed a beautiful card made using the Love of Leaves bundle.

Snowflake Splendor by Jo Anne Hewins

I used the same layout but different products.  The paper is Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper, the stamp set Snowflake Wishes and the die cut is from the Celebrations Labels dies.  I also used the Snowflake Splendor ribbon and the Banners Pick a Punch.

Base:  Thick Whisper White 4 1/2 x 11, scored at 5 1/2.

Designer Paper:  4 1/2 x 5 1/2

Highland Heather: 3 1/2 x 4 3/4

Banner:  Whisper White 1 x 4 1/4

Dove of Hope with Poinsettia Place by Jo Anne Hewins

This card used a card on page 14 for inspiration.  I loved the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper used with the Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper.  I took those elements and went with it using the Dove of Hope bundle.  There are some tips about cutting the plush paper on the video.

Base: Thick Whisper White 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2

Plush Poinsettia Specialty:  3 3/8 x 4 3/4, approximately

In the Pines with Poinsettia Place by Jo Anne Hewins

This card was cased from a card on page 43.  I stuck to the card in some ways, but substituted some supplies that I did not have.

Base:  Soft Suede 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, folded at 4 1/4

Poinsettia Place DSP:  3 3/4 x 5

Here is the Facebook Live for tips and tricks.  I'm giving away the cards made during the Live.  Just comment and I will pick a random winner.

Thanks so much for joining me.  I'm trying to do these Lives on Wednesdays at 4:00 ET.  Thanks for joining me!

Trimming the Town Meets the Curvy Dies

Good morning and welcome to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #640.  Today we are using the colors Poppy Parade, Misty Moonlight, and Old Olive.

CCMC640

I used the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper for my card.  The paper is perfect!  Here is the card.

CCMC #640 Trimming the Town by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Thick Whisper White cut to 4 1/2 x 11, score and fold at 5 1/2.

Cut 5 different patterns of paper from the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper to measure 2 x 4 1/4.  We will be covering the entire front of the card.  The top layer will have no extra cuts.  All of the other layers will be cut with the Curvy dies.  I used the curve with all of the little circles.  Be careful to have the cutting edge near the top of the paper when cutting each layer.  Begin at the top and work down to the bottom of the card when gluing.  Trim any extra from sides and the bottom.

Use the Old Olive ribbon from the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack to tie around the card and tie into a bow.

The saying is from the Wrapped in Christmas stamp set.  Stamp in Real Red on Whisper White.  Cut out using the Celebration Labels dies and add to the card with dimensionals.

CCMC #640 Trimming the Town Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card add another saying from Wrapped in Christmas and some more of the Trimming the Town designer paper.  Cut the paper with the Curvy die.

CCMC #640 Trimming the Town Project by Jo Anne Hewins

This is a great way to use up some of your designer paper and a pretty easy card too.

Prized Peony Sympathy Card

FB_IMG_1606276450382

It's a hard fact to face, but sometimes we need sympathy cards.  That's what I have for you today.  I'm using the Prized Peony stamp set.  It's an easy card today.  Let's face it making a sympathy card is not that fun.  You have to think of the comfort it might lend to those receiving it.  Of course this card can lend itself for any occasion just by changing the sentiment.

Prized Peony Sympathy Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Early Espresso that is 4 1/4 x 11, scored and folded at 5 1/2.

The next layer is Whisper White.  It is cut to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8.

The next layer just makes the card.  You might be surprised to find out that this pattern is from the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper!  Cut the layer to 3 3/4 x 5.  Stamp the large peony on this layer in Early Espresso.  To be sure that your image is perfect, I suggest that you line up the stamp on the Stamparatus.  That way you can stamp again if needed.

Use Pool Party ink and a sponge dauber to add just a little extra color to the flower and flower bud.  Use Mint Macaron ink and a dauber to add a little color to the leaves.  This won't be perfect, but it isn't meant to be.

Prized Peony Sympathy Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Tie a length of the Pool Party Sheer Ribbon around the card and tie a bow.  I like to place a glue dot under the first tie.  It holds the ribbon in place so you can finish tying the bow.

The saying is from the Prized Peony stamp set.  Stamp in Early Espresso.  Cut out using the Ornate Frames dies.  Add to the card with dimensionals.

Add some of the Elegant Faceted Gems to complete the card.

Prized Peony Sympathy Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

The saying for the inside is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.  Stamp the flower again and adding just a little color as you did to the front.

Prized Peony Sympathy Project by Jo Anne Hewins

And there you go.  It's a lovely card.

I thank you for your time today.  Have a beautiful day and I hope that you have some time to stamp.  It will make you happy.  It's my happy place!
