NC Blog Hop for June Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Welcome to the NC Blog Hop for June.  You'll find us the last Sunday of each month at 8:00 pm.  Our theme this month is Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.  In other words, we can pretty much choose anything we want!  You might have just come by Toni's blog.  What a talent!  I just love seeing all of the wonderful projects and ideas!

Join us blog

I'm going with Something New.  I'll be using the Arrange a Wreath bundle.  That's the Arrange a Wreath stamp set and the Wreath Builders dies.  These are gorgeous and something that you can use all year long.  Really, you can make a wreath for any occasion or for your decor!  I'm going to show you three cards actually, a beginner stamper, a casual stamper, and avid stamper card.

Arrange a Wreath Beginner Project by Jo Anne Hewins

This beginner card uses Blackberry Bliss for the card base (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded).  The next layer is from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper pack.  It's cut at 4 x 5 1/4.

Adhere the wreath stamp on your Stamparatus so that the stamp will be in the middle of the wood layer.  Stamp the wreath in Granny Apple Green.  If this does not stamp completely, just ink and stamp again.  A beginner will love this!

Using Blackberry Bliss ink, stamp the middle sized flower on the wreath.  Now in between, stamp the dots.

Add the saying in the center of the wreath.

Arrange a Wreath Casual Card by Jo Anne Hewins

This card is stepped up a bit.  I've added a Garden Green layer (3 7/8 x 5 1/8) behind the designer paper.  The wood paper is cut to 3 3/4 x 5 now.

Stamp the wreath in Granny Apple Green as above.

Now cut the more detailed wreath from the Wreath Builders dies in Garden Green.  Hint:  Watch my video below for a paper saving tip!

Stamp the saying from Arrange a Wreath in the center of the wreath in Blackberry Bliss.

Cut seven of the middle sized flowers using the dies.  There are two of this die in the set to speed cutting a little.

Punch 7 holes using a regular hole punch from So Saffron card stock.  Add each hole to a glue dot and add to the wreath.  There is a hole as part of the dies.  I think it could be used for this flower.  It's too big for the smallest flower.  A hole punch would be faster.

Now add a flower for each center.

Cut the bow from Blackberry Bliss card stock using the dies and add.

Arrange a Wreath Avid by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the avid stamper's card.  The measurements are the same for the layers for this card.  I was careful to glue these layers around the outside but not in the middle.  I used the approximately 2 inch circle from the Layering Circles dies to cut a circle in the middle of the card front.

Before adding the layers, cut the leaf wreath from the center of the Garden Green layer.  No one will ever know!

Add a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White to the inside of the card.  Close the card.  Add glue to the wood circle that was cut out of the front through the hole to the inside white piece.  I was careful to try to match the wood grain.  Stamp the saying on the wood circle in Blackberry Bliss.

Cut detailed wreaths from Mint Macaron and Granny Apple Green.

Adhere the wreaths with glue just around the center.  Add first the Granny Apple Green wreath, then the Garden Green wreath, and finally the Mint Macaron wreath.  Be careful to off center the detailed wreaths.  These will be larger that the cut circle.  Just center them around it.

Arrange a Wreath Avid for NC Demo by Jo Anne Hewins

Cut three of the largest flowers from Blackberry Bliss and three of the circle dies from the Wreath Builders dies from So Saffron.  Glue the saffron behind the flowers.  Use the blunt end of a Paper Piercer tool (retired) to press the center of the flower into a spongy surface.  The Stampin' Pierce Mat will work for that.  Add these flowers to the wreath spacing them apart.

I used about 10 or so of the smallest flower.  Punch about 10 holes using a hole punch from So Saffron.  Add these to the roll of glue dots, one for each dot.  Add the holes to the wreath.  I put two between each large flower and some at the bottom.  One will go inside at the bottom of the wood circle.  Cut 10 of the flower from Blackberry Bliss.  There are 3 of the dies for this flower to help you.  Hint:  I used the new Adhesive Sheets behind my card stock so I could add the flowers easily!  Pull the adhesive backing from each flower and add so that you can see the saffron center.

Tie a bow with Linen Thread (and lots of it).  Add the bow with a glue dot.

Arrange a Wreath Avid Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

Add the flower on the inside and a few of the small sprigs from the same die set.  I did add the Adhesive Sheets to the back of these too!

Here is a video showing how to make this card.  It might help clear up a few things.

The Arrange a Wreath bundle is great for all kinds of stampers!

Just to add a little more.  Here is pretty much the same card in Christmas colors!

Arrange a Wreath for Christmas

I've been playing with the Arrange a Wreath bundle, Arrange a Wreath stamp set and Wreath Builders dies.  It's a lot of fun and a stamp set for all seasons, too.  A wreath is always in style!  I know it's a little early for Christmas, but why not!

Arrange a Wreath Partridge in a Pear Tree Card by Jo Anne Hewins

I think this card will be part of a Christmas card class coming up.  It's so cute!

The base is Real Red card stock cut to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded in half at 4 1/4.

The next layer is Whisper White.  It measures 4 x 5 1/4.  Run it through the die cut machine with the Dainty Diamonds Embossing Folder.  That folder is so, well, dainty.  Good name, Stampin' Up!

For the wreath, you will need a piece of Shaded Spruce and a piece of Just Jade both cut to 4 x 4.  Cut  the Shaded Spruce with the leaves wreath die.  Cut the Just Jade with the more detailed wreath die.  To adhere, I put the Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the center of these cut outs very lightly.  Glue the Shaded Spruce one first and then the Just Jade over the top.

The pears in the stamp set stamp two at a time.  The dies also cut two at a time.  What a time saver!  For the pears, ink first in Crushed Curry.  With a Sponge Dauber, stamp a little bit of Granny Apple Green around the bottom directly on the stamp before stamping.  That add just a little bit of extra color to the pear.  Make five of these.  You might as well make 6 since they are double and put one inside.

Ink first in Soft Suede for the partridge.  Now with a sponge dauber, add some Early Espresso ink to the top of the bird.  Now stamp and cut out.

Arrange a Wreath partridge in a Pear Tree Close up by Jo Anne Hewins

Add the partridge with dimensionals just a little to the right bottom of the wreath.

Tie a bow using the Double Stitched Real Red Ribbon and add with a glue dot.

Space out the five pears and add with dimensionals.

Add lots and lots of the Red Rhinestones!  They make it so pretty!

The saying is from the Arrange a Wreath stamp set.  Stamp in Real Red on a white scrap and add with dimensionals.

Here's a video I made showing how to make this card.

I hope you'll try this card!

Friday Tutorial Ornate Garden by Me

Today we have a beautiful card that I added to our Tutorial Medley group.  It uses the Ornate Garden Suite.

Ornate Garden Suite by Jo Anne Hewins

I was proud of this one.  Here are the instuctions below.

Ornate Garden

Supplies:

Stamp Sets: Ornate Style #152572, Ornate Thanks #149471, Ornate Style Bundle #154119

Cardstock: Highland Heather #146986, Whisper White #100730

Ink: Versamark #102283, Mango Melody Blends Combo #154888, Balmy Blue Blends Combo #154830, Highland Heather Blends Combo #154887, Purple Posy Blends Combo #154896, Mossy Meadow Blends Combo #154890, Early Espresso Pad #147114

Tools & Accessories: Ornate Layer dies #152726, Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder #109129, Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding #151326

Designer Paper: Ornate Garden Specialty DSP #152488

Misc: Paper Snips #103579, Take Your Pick Tool #144107, Grid Paper #130148, Stampin’ Sponges #141337, Heat Tool #129053, Paper Trimmer #152392, Glue Dots #103683, Multipurpose Liquid Glue #110755, Foam Adhesive Strips #141825

Measurements:

Card Base: Highland Heather 5 ½ x 8 ½, score at 4 1/4

Cardstock #2: Whisper White 3 ¾ x 5 (Use 1 or 2, see directions)

Cardstock #3:

Designer Paper: 3 5/8 x 4 7/8 gold outlined flowers

Instructions:

Stamp around the card base with the large flower stamp from Ornate Style in Versamark to leave a pattern around the edges.

Sponge the Ornate Garden Specialty paper with Highland Heather ink. Rub over the surface with a tissue to wipe away extra ink and allow the gold to shine.

Stamp the large flower stamp again in the center of the Whisper White layer in Early Espresso ink.

Color in the image. Use the following blends: Crushed Curry combo, Balmy Blue combo, Mossy Meadow combo, Dark Purple Posy, and Dark Highland Heather.

Use the Ornate Layers dies to cut. You need the long thin stitched rectangle. Cut from the middle of the flowers. Now cut another rectangle directly next to the left and another to the right. If you wish you can use the outer part of this layer to make the Whisper White layer between the base and the patterned paper. This would save paper. If not, use the second Whisper White layer for this.

Use Grid Paper to help with placement of the strips. Find the middle of the patterned paper at the top and the bottom and use that to place the middle strip. Keep strips in the correct order. Add with Foam Adhesive Strips. Now add to the left and right looking at the spacing between the middle strip and edges of the layer.

Add all layers together with Multipurpose Liquid Glue

Color a 5 inch piece of Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding with a Dark Balmy Blue Blend. Add across the lower part of the strips. Use a glue dot on the under side of the strips to add the ribbon. Add another glue dot under the ribbon across the top to stabilize.

Stamp the work THANKS from the Ornate Thanks stamp set in Versamark on a scrap of Highland Heather card stock. Add Gold Emboss Powder and melt with the Heat Tool. Trim using Paper Snips or the Paper Trimmer. Add across the ribbon with glue dots.

I used a 13 inch piece of colored seam binding to tie a double bow. Add with a glue dot.

Here are an additional picture for you.

Whale Done for a Whale of a Time

Welcome to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge # 618.  Today we have a sketch.

CCMC618

This is a pretty simple sketch.  Here is what I did with it.

CCMC #618 Whale Done Card by Jo Anne Hewins

If you haven't seen the beautiful Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper, you are missing something.  It comes in the 6 x 6 size.

Whale of a Time

Such cuteness!  Just click on the paper to order!

Pacific Point is a lovely bright blue.  I just don't use it enough.  I'm so happy that this color is included in the paper stack.  My Pacific Point paper is cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

With Versamark, stamp the turtle along the top and the bottom of the card base.  Vary and angle this so it looks more natural.

The Blackberry Bliss layer is 3 1/2 x 4 1/4.  Glue to the center of the card.

The designer paper measures 3 x 4 1/4.  Add to the center of the Blackberry Bliss layer.

Add a thin strip of designer paper in a different color so that it shows up.  I chose a Bumblebee color.  It is 1/2 x 3 3/4.  It is behind the saying.

The saying is stamped in Pacific Point on a 3/4 x 2 1/2 piece of Whisper White.  Add on dimensionals.

CCMC #618 Whale Done Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside add a strip of the Whale of a Time paper that is 3/4 x 4.  The saying is from the Whale Done stamp set.  I cut it out with the Tasteful Labels dies.  Yes, I admit it.  I messed up when stamping and had to cover it up.  That's what we do!

CCMC #618 Whale Done Project by Jo Anne Hewins

The Science Center has reopened in Greensboro, NC.  I knew Sagan was going and she loves the aquarium.  This card went to her.

Thanks for your time today.  Time is important.  I hope you'll try this card or the sketch.  It goes together quickly!

The Prized Peony Bundle is a Prize

My sister Martha had a birthday recently.  It gave me the perfect opportunity to use the Prized Peony bundle.  I found that it might look hard, but it really isn't.

Prized Peony by Jo Anne Hewins

It starts with a base of Petal Pink 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  The Gray Granite layer is 3 7/8 x 5 1/8.

The next layer is a piece of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper.  Stampin' Up! truly has some of the most beautiful designer paper with year.  This paper is just yummy.  I not really a fan of pink, but this is fabulous!  I used a piece of white and Gray Granite.  It's cut to 3 3/4 x 5.

Run a piece of the Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon across the layers.  Tape to the back.

I used the new Square Vellum Doilies under the flower.  Color on the back with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.  I colored this two times to make it a little darker.  I just added some of the seal in the center of where this needed to go to adhere.  That part will be covered up.

For the flower, use the Petal Pink designer paper from the pack.  There are 4 parts to the flower.  Cut them all out with the Peony dies.  Now use a sponge dauber to sponge around each piece.  Use Merry Merlot ink.  Try to sponge on the inside cuts for each piece also.  I tried to curl up on the top of each piece and a little on the inside.

To assemble, start with the smallest piece and wiggle it gently into the cut section of the next larger piece.  There are little waves in the bottom of each of the pieces.  Make these line up with both pieces.  I added a glue dot to hold in place.  Now take those two pieces and wiggle them into the next larger piece.  Match the waves at the bottom and add a glue dot.  Repeat with the last piece.  Now you might want to go back and adhere the layers a little better.  You can even go in a little deeper and add dimensionals for more depth in the flower.  It comes together very well, just remember to be gentle.

Prized Peony Even Closer Up by Jo Anne Hewins

I cut out 2 of the little center pieces from Merry Merlot card stock and added to the center.

The leaves in this die set also look a little forbidding.  There are three leaves and then there are three leaf parts.  Cut the full leaves from Old Olive.  Cut the parts from Mossy Meadow card stock.  Match up the sizes and glue the parts from the bottom of the leaves.  Add under the flower with glue dots.  Hint:  For the leaf parts, cut with the new Adhesive Sheets.  Then just peal off the backing to adhere!

Prized Peony Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Add the flower to the card with dimensionals.

I felt the flower was a little off center and decided to add some of the blooms.  This is part of the largest flower in the Prized Peony stamp set.  I just inked up the bud section so I wouldn't waste a lot of paper.  Stamp on Whisper White in Gray Granite ink.  Color the buds with the Petal Pink Combo of blends and the Old Olive Combo pack and fussy cut.  I added three of them.  Just tuck them in where they look best.

For the tag, stamp the saying from So Sentimental in Versamark on Gray Granite card stock.  Use White Stampin' Emboss Powder and the Heat Tool to emboss.  Cut out with the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  Add with glue dots just under the bow.

Prized Peony Card by Jo Anne Hewins

This card was definitely worth all the time and trouble.  And really, it's not that much trouble when you break it down.

Here's a video on putting together the flower.  I don't show making the entire card.  I hope it's helpful.
