Sagan's Birthday Card

As far as the changes COVID-19 has caused in my life, I can't complain a lot.  I actually spend most of my time crafting anyway.  I do miss having my friends come over to make cards with me.  As I am writing this post, it's Saturday the 25th.  My granddaughter Sagan is 2 today.  It's just killing me that I can't see her.  We do have Face Time and Zoom, thank goodness!!!

I used the Stitched Stars dies for Sagan's card.  Let me give you just a quick explanation.  Sagan was the answer to many prayers, a science baby you could say.  For this reason she was named Sagan, after scientist Carl Sagan.  He wrote the book Cosmos.  That's why we think of space and the stars when we think of her.  So that is why I used stars.

Sagan has learned her colors and I just wanted to make something simple.  She seems to love yellow so I used Daffodil Delight as the base of her card.  It is 5 1/2 x  8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

I used another layer of Daffodil Delight that measures 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Use the 4 smallest stars from the Stitched Stars dies.  Start with the largest of those and cut out three of them.  They did hang over the edge.  Hint:  Keep some of that yellow edge that you cut off to add back later.  Then cut out with each shape several times going from largest to the smallest.  When I made my card I glued this sheet directly to the card base.  My advice is to glue it to another piece of card stock the same size either Whisper White or Daffodil Delight.  I had to try to clip my pieces to fit on the sides.  If you glue it to another piece, you can trim all at once.  Do that!

For the stars, I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Pacific Point, Gorgeous Grape, Garden Green, and Whisper White.  Scraps work for this.  Cut out a bunch of stars in various colors and sizes using the Stitched Stars.  Now glue these shapes inside the star holes.  Just let the stars extend out over the edge.  Trim when all is glued.  The white stars are glued on top in places that needed a little something.  The two white stars on the edge is actually one star cut in half.

Glue the layer to the card front.

Use the Stitched So Sweetly dies for the banner cut from Whisper White.  The saying is from the Bonanza Buddies stamp set.  It's stamped in Garden Green.  Add a few stars to the front.  Use dimensionals to add to the card front in the center.

The ribbon is the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding colored with a Dark Real Red Blend.  Add the bow with a glue dot.

The saying on the inside is from Bonanza Buddies.  Add more stars along the bottom.  I did use a few of the Daffodil Delight stars cut out from the front.

This could be a great graduation card.  Make it in the colors of the school and change the saying.  Add a little graduation cap on the banner!

Here is a picture of Sagan with her card!  I will also tell you that I put pictures of Sagan at the end of my weekly newsletter.  Sign up from this page!
