A Simple Sailing Home

Hello!  Thanks for coming to my blog today.  I love sharing my creations.  Today I have a simple card using the Sailing Home stamp set, the Smooth Sailing Dies, and the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.

Come Sail Away for the Whisk & Barrel by Jo Anne Hewins

Begin with a card base of Night of Navy that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2  and folded at 4 1/4.  The next layer is Sahara Sand cut to 3 3/4 x 5.  A piece of navy stripe from the Come Said Away designer paper that is 3 5/8 x 4 7/8 is the next layer.

I suggest using the Stamparatus for your stamping.  You want to get a good crisp dark image for all.

For the lighthouse, use a piece of Sahara Sand measuring 1 5/8 x 3 1/2.  After stamping the lighthouse in Night of Navy, rough up the edges of this paper with the sides of your scissors blade.  Add with dimensionals.

Stamp the saying in Night of Navy and then punch out with the 2" Circle Punch.  Add that with dimensionals.  Put snail where this circle overlaps the lighthouse paper.

Stamp the anchor on Sahara Sand scrap using Night of Navy.  Cut this out using the Smooth Sailing Dies.  Add a little of the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Twine to the end.  Add with dimensionals.

I usually show the inside of my cards.  For this one I just stamped another anchor in the bottom right corner.

Who says simple can't be pretty?  I think anyone would love to receive this card!

Short and sweet today.  The Sailing Home Bundle should be in your craft space.  You'll love it.

Good Morning, Magnolia in White

The Good Morning, Magnolia stamp set is just magnificent!  I am a southerner you know and we love our magnolias.  I noticed looking through Pinterest that there were some white magnolias on Crumb Cake card stock.  They are so striking!  I just had to try it.  Here is my card.

Good Morning Magnolia Whitewash Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Crumb Cake that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  Stamp around the outside of the base with the small flower from the Good Morning, Magnolia stamp set.  Stamp in early espresso.  Turn the stamp as you go around the outside.

The Crumb Cake smaller layer measures 3 1/4 x 4 1/2.  Stamp the large magnolia from the top and from the bottom in Versamark ink after using the Embossing  Buddy all over the surface.  I stamped a smaller portion of the flower at the top and a larger portion at the bottom.  Cover with gold emboss powder and melt using the Heat Tool.  For my sample I used Craft White ink and my Aqua Painter.  Put a couple drops on a clear block.  Add just a couple drops of water from the Aqua Painter and paint the flower.  I really didn't pay attention to the gold embossing inside the flower and just painted over it.  I don't recommend that.  The gold does not shine through.  We made this card in class and, with that suggetion, the cards were prettier.  You will probably need more than one coat of ink.  Wait for it to dry between or use your Heat Tool to make it dry faster.  Once you like your look and all is dry, use a sponge dauber to add some Petal Pink ink around the center of the flower.  Color the leaves with a Light Old Olive Blend and the stem with Light Soft Suede.

There are other ways to add the white to the magnolias.  I have a video on this posts that shows this.  We try the Chalk Marker and the White Color Pencil.

This layer is adhered to a 3 3/8 x 4 5/8 piece of Early Espresso card stock.  Run two rounds of Linen Thread around the card.  I usually just tape this on from the back.  Add this panel to the card base with Foam Adhesive Strips.

You can see from this picture that the gold embossing did not show well after I added the white ink.  Heed my suggestion that you not color over the embossing!

Stamp Hello from the Good Morning, Magnolia stamp set in Versamark and gold emboss.  It's cut out with a die from the Perfect Parcel dies.  Add to the card on dimensionals.  The Linen Thread bow is added with a rolled up glue dot.

Here is the inside of the card.  All stamping is done in Early Espresso ink.  I used the Light Petal Pink and the Light Old Olive Blends to color in the flower.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #568

Welcome to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #568.  This month we will CASE (Copy and Share Everything) from the new 2019-2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.  We might decide to copy the layout, the colors, or elements of the card.  This week we CASE the card found on page 22 of the catalog.

CCMC568

I copied the layout of this card.  I also noticed that the flowers on the catalog card were cut out from designer paper, so I incorporated that element as well.  Here is my card.

CCMC #568 Free as a Bird by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a card base of Old Olive 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  The CASE card has some stamping along the bottom of the base, so I stamped off the bird from the Free as a Bird stamp set and stamped that along the bottom.  That covered a little over half of the bottom of the base.

The Daffodil Delight patterned paper is from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper.  Both pieces are 2 1/2 x 3 1/2.  The first is added with snail from the top and toward the right.  For the second daffodil layer, there is a 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of  Old Olive paper with keys.  I added a cut out of birds from yet another sheet of the Bird Ballad paper.  Include the branch and some of the lovely flowers.  Add the Daffodil Delight layer with dimensionals.

CCMC #568 Free as a Bird Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

The sentiment is from Free as a Bird.  Stamp in Old Olive on a 1/2" scrap of white.  Add snail to the bottom of the thank you and dimensionals to the top part.  Add along the olive key paper.

CCMC #568 Free as a Bird Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of the card.  The saying is from Free as a Bird.  The birds are more cut outs from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper.  This pack of paper is so beautiful!  It makes card making super easy!

Above the Clouds in Three Hot Air Balloons

I've never been in a hot air balloon.  In a way, I think I would like it.  For now, I'll be soaring with the Above the Clouds with Stampin' Up!'s new stamp set and the coordinating punch called Hot Air Balloon.  You can buy the two together as a bundle and save 10%.  Now there's a deal!

Above the Clouds 3 Hot Air Balloons by Jo Anne Hewins

For this card, start with a base of Thick Whisper White.  It measures 4 1/4 x 11.  Score and fold at 5 1/2.

Stamp the clouds down each side.  Move the stamp back and forth so there is a variation in the clouds.  You don't want them in a line down the page.  Use Seaside Spray.

The patterned paper is from the 2019-2021 In Color 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper stack.  It's Seaside Spray also.  The measurements are 3 x 5 1/2.  Before adhereing to the base, stamp the small balloon trio outline stamp here and there, again in Seaside Spray.  Ink up the solid matching stamps, stamp off, and stamp right on top of the balloon outlines.

On a separate piece of Whisper White, stamp the large balloons.  I used Pumpkin Pie, Seaside Spray, and Old Olive.  For each balloon, stamp the outline first.  Then stamp off with the same color for the solid stamp.  This stamp does have a bit of a water color look to it.  Punch with the Hot Air Balloon punch.  The baskets are stamped in Crumb Cake.  Stamp the outline and stamp off the inside.  You can punch out the baskets.  It might be just as easy to cut them out.

The yellow balloon is adhered with snail.  The other two balloons are put on with dimensionals.

Stamp the saying in Old Olive on a 1/2" wide piece of white.  Add a small balloon.  Add the saying with dimensionals.

Here's the inside of the card.  More stamping.  I didn't add words this time.

This is a fun card to make.  Let me also mention that the Hot Air Balloon Punch can be used to make flower petals.   I'll have to look at that for you sometime.

Thank you for your time today.  I'm a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and would love to help you can any way.  Just ask!
