Floral Essence Retirement Card

Two of my friends and team members retired recently.  It took me a while to get cards made for them.  I love how these cards turned out.  I hope they do.  I'm excited for them!  I see girl lunches in the future for a group of us!  Here is the card I made for them.  It actually does look better in person!

Floral Essence Retirement Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Kaye is a lover of purple.  That's where I started.  The base is Gorgeous Grape measuring 4 1/4 x 11 and folded at 5 1/2.  The next layer is Granny Apple Green that is 3 3/4 x 5.   Finally there is a Whisper White layer measuring 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.

Stamp the largest flowers from the Floral Essence stamp set in Gorgeous Grape.  Change the orientation of the stamp.  It's OK to stamp off the edge of the layer.  Now stamp the smaller flowers in Highland Heather working them in among the larger flowers.  Stamp the center in each flower with Daffoldil Delight.  Note that both flower sizes have their own center that fits it.  Add in leaves in Granny Apple Green.  Some seem to be attached to flowers and some leaves are just out there.  Fill in some of the empty spaces.  Color the leaves with the Light Granny Apple Green Blend.

Color all of the remaining white with the Light Pool Party Blend.

Wrap the White Baker's Twine around this layer 3 times.  Add to the card.

For the label, stamp the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape.  These words are in the Well Said stamp set.  Cut out the label with the Stitched Shapes Dies.  Cut with the sentiment toward the left of the label.  Stamp a couple leaves and color in.  Stamp another flower in Highland Heather on white scrap.  Cut out and add to the label.  Add the label with dimensionals.

The sentiment on the inside of the card is from the Tasteful Textures stamp set.  Add a flower in Gorgeous Grape.

So Happy Retirement to Cindy and Kaye.  And pencil me in for lunch!!!

Of course with a different sentiment, this card could be perfect for any occasion.  Get stamping!  Thanks so much for your time today!

One Stamp at a Time (OSAT) Blog Hop for July Down on the Farm

Welcome to the One Stamp at a Time Blog Hop for July.  Our theme this month is Down on the Farm.  My name is Jo Anne Hewins and I'm from North Carolina in the USA.

Image may contain: text

I'm not much of a farm girl.  I do own the This Little Piggy stamp set, but it just wasn't speaking to me.  In the description I did see mention of Farmhouse Chic so I'm going with that.  I googled that to see exactly what it was, and I got Chip and Joanna Gaines.  My card is something that I think Joanna would like.

OSAT Down on the Farm by Jo Anne Hewins

My card base is Thick Whisper White that measures 4 1/4 x 11.  Score and fold at 5 1/2.  The next layer is Very Vanilla cut at 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Emboss with the Pinewood Plank embossing folder.  Then use your sponge dauber to add a little Smoky Slate ink to it.  This is my version of Shiplap that Joanna uses so much.

Now use the Neutrals 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper in Basic Gray.  The scripted paper is 3 x 4 1/2.  Add to the center of the card.  The check paper measures 3/4 x 4 1/8.  Add below the center of the card.

The holder for my flowers is made using the Pocket Die.  Cut from Whisper White.  Score along the bottom to create a base for the flower holder.  Cut this off about 1/4 below the score line so you'll have something to fold in.  Use the Tin Tile Embossing Folder.  Use the Bone Folder to burnish all the fold lines.  Add dimensionals to the pocket and adhere to the card front.  Put them so that the folded lines are just allowed to fold back and not caught in the dimensionals.  It makes the pocket three dimensional.  Sponge some Smoky Slate on this pocket, too.  The iron decoration is made using the Stain Glass Dies.  Cut in black and add to the top of the pocket.  This can be another aspect of Farmhouse Chic.

The word Hello is stamped using the To a Wild Rose stamp set in Memento on white.  Fussy cut the word and add to the pocket.

Color some White Twine with a Light Granny Apple Green Blend.  Run across and add a bow with a glue dot.

OSAT Down on the Farm Farm Chic by Jo Anne Hewins

For the flowers, I inked up a clear block, spritzed it with water, and rubbed it on Watercolor Paper.  I wanted a variation in my greens.  I tried to get some solid green spaces, some white and green and some mostly white.  I used the Bouquet Bunch Dies.  I cut 3 long stems with leaves in all green and 6 of the small flower clusters in a variation.  I also cut three Very Vanilla stems.  Use your craft mat and a sponge to put glue on the back of these.  Arrange as you please.

Would Joanna approve?

OSAT Down on the Farm Chic by Jo Anne Hewins

To accompany my card, I made a book mark.

OSAT Down on the Farm Tag by Jo Anne Hewins

Use Thick Whisper White cut to 2 x 6.  Glue down a piece of the Basic Gray check the same size.  Glue well.  Punch at one end with the Delightful Tag Topper Punch.  Now emboss a 1 x 6 piece of Whisper White with the Tin Tile folder.  Sponge with the Smoky Slate.  Punch this with the same punch.  Add to the book mark.  You might try puttin on all the layers and then punching, but it will be hard with so many layers.

Punch a piece of the Basic Gray scripted paper with the Starburst Punch.  Add to the center of the book mark.

I added one of the leaves with the long stem, 2 of the small flower clusters, and one of the Very Vanilla stems.  Top it all off with the word love cut out in Basic Black with the Well Written Dies.

For the top of the tag, use a 3" piece of Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon.  From each end trim down about an inch on each side cutting down the white edging.  Pull out the threads with your Take Your Pick Tool to fringe.  Pull through the hole and tie with Smoky Slate twine.  Make that by coloring White Twine with the Light Smoky Slate Blend.

OSAT Down on the Farm Card and Tag by Jo Anne Hewins

Mind you, this is a time consuming project.  The Farmhouse Chic design seemed to call for it.  It's certainly doable with the step by step instructions!  I have a video for you.  That might make things easier.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Don't forget to go to all of the blogs on the hop.  I know you will be inspired.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #569 Mosaic Mood Specialty Designer Series Paper

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  We are again doing a CASE (Copy and Share Everything) of the catalog.  Today we CASE a card from page 132 of the Stampin' Up! 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.

CCMC569

I'm just going to admit that when I added my card to the group, I saw that another card looked very much like mine.  I started to do another card, but with holidays and other stuff, I just didn't have the time.  We had similar ideas and that's fine.  If you really look, you'll see a few differences.

CCMC#569 Mosaic Specialty DSP Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card on page 132 is most white with a cut out from a piece of designer paper.  In fact, there is a little note near the card that speaks about cutting out flowers from SU's pretty designer papers.  Have you noticed the little tips spread throughout the catalog?  They are neat!  I decided t ouse the Mosaic Mood Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I hadn't used it yet.

For this paper, I needed to use Very Vanilla.  For the base I used Thick Very Vanilla that is cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4.  The next layer is Very Vanilla that is 3 3/4 x 5.  Use the Mosaic 3D Embossing Folder.  Use the new 3D Embossing Folder Plate with this folder.  It works perfectly with the designer paper.  Adhere this layer directly to the card base.

Now simply pick out a group of flowers from the Mosaic Mood paper and cut away.  I wanted to fill up most of the space.  That's why I picked that group of flowers.  They were also near the edge of the paper so I wouldn't waste much paper.

CCMC #569 Mosaic Specialty Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

The sample had ribbon behind the flowers.  I chose to use the Crushed Curry Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon.  You'll have to look closely, but there is a little bee on one of the flowers.  I used 2 pieces of ribbon about 5" long.

The sample used a large word across the center of the card on vellum.  I decided to leave out the vellum, but use the Well Written Dies for the word birthday.  I chose to use the Garden Green.  It's the same color as the leaves.  The word Happy is stamped in Terracotta Tile ink on a 1/2" of Very Vanilla.  Trim and add above the birthday.  The Well Said bundle is a great addition to any craft room!

CCMC #569 Mosaic Specialty Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, I cut another flower, a butterfly, and a bee from the Mosaic Mood Specialty paper.  The saying, stamped in Terracotta Tile is from the Butterfly Wishes stamp set.

Using a sample in the catalog is a great way come up with your own ideas.  I used this technique when my mojo takes a vacation!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I appreciate your time.

Free as a Bird and Garden Lane

Hi!  So glad to see you today!  I have a sweet little card using a bird from Free as a Bird, Garden Lane Designer Series Paper, and the branch from Seasonal Layers Dies.  A few other products are thrown in there, too.  We'll get to it.

Free Bird Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a card base of Thick Whisper White.  It measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score and fold at 4 1/4.

Cut a layer of Garden Lane Designer Series Paper to 5 x 5 1/4.  Add to the card.

Use the third rectangle in on the Rectangle Stitched Dies to cut a layer from Whisper White.  Add a layer of a different patterned paper from Garden Lane that measures 2 x 3 nearer the top of the layer.

Add a branch of Soft Suede across the layer cut from the Seasonal Layers Dies.  Part will stick out from each side.  Stamp three flowers from Free as a Bird in Memento Black on scrap paper.  Color using the Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo Blends.  Fussy cut and add to the branch.

Stamp the bird in Memento on white.  I used the Light Daffodil Delight, Dark Mango Melody, Light Crumb Cake, and Light Flirty Flamingo Blends to color the bird.  Fussy cut the bird as well.  Add the bird with dimensionals.

The word Hello is stamped in Mint Macaron just over the designer paper.  It is from the Free as a Bird stamp set.

Free Bird Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

I used the Mint Macaron twine from the Nature's Twine pack.  I like to pull the strands apart so that it lies flatter on the card.  Tie the twine around the rectangle and tie in a knot.  I used three strands of Linen Thread about 3" long side by side and tied this around the knot.  I'm trying to decide whether to say the strands lay flat or lie flat.  My phone is being charged.  Just let it be known that I know enough to question it.

Add some sequins from the Adhesive Backed Sequins.

The rectangle is added with dimensionals.

Here is the inside of the card.  All of it is from Free as a Bird.

Stamping Around the World Tutorial Blog Hop for July Daisy Lane

Welcome to the Stamping Around the World Tutorial Blog Hop for July.  We are a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the globe.  Together we make up a tutorial with 12 great projects.  We also have this hop using the same stamp sets we used in our part of the tutorial group.  That gives you even more projects!  You might have just come from Margriet's blog.  She has such great projects.

No photo description available.

I used this Daisy Lane stamp set for my project for the tutorial.  Today I'm using the Daisy Lane stamp set and the Medium Daisy Punch.  I have a gift box and a matching card.  Here is my card.

SATW July Hop Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is 4 1/2 x 11, scored at 5 1/2 and folded.  Use your Bone Folder to burnish.

The Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper is cut to 3 3/4 x 5.  I used the Mossy Meadow paper with the leaves.

Use the Stitched Nested Label Dies for the focal point of the card.  Cut the Mossy Meadow stripe paper for this.  Now cut the next size up in Whisper White to make a frame look.  I didn't like the look of the two nested together.  I felt the white was a little too long, so I trimmed it a little.  Here's how.  Line up the die back on the label but just a little below the original cut on the end.  You can feel when the die fits into the original cuts on the side.  You might want to secure with a little washi tape.  Just run through your die cutting machine.  The other end extends beyond the die, so you don't really need to worry about it.  I probably only cut off about an 1/8 of an inch, but it did make a difference.

For the flower, punch out 3 flowers from Whisper White using the Medium Daisy Punch.  Use your Bone Folder to carefully curl the petals up.  I used a glue dot to adhere the layers making sure to offset each layer from the others.  Add a Gold Faceted Gem to the center.  Punch 2 leaves using the Leaf Punch.  Pinch up the leaves to give a little texture.  Secure to the flower with glue dots.  Add the flower to the top left of the label.

For the tag, stamp the fern in Old Olive on a scrap of Whisper White.  I did stamp off.  Add the saying in Mossy Meadow.  Use the Perfect Parcels to cut out the tag.  Add to the card with dimensionals.

Add a bow of Linen Thread to the tag with a glue dot.

SATW blog Hop card pic by Jo Anne Hewins

I also made a box to match the card using the Perfect Parcels Dies.  This box is not that easy to put together.  I have a video to show how I did it.

The belly band measured 3 x 7 3/4.  Score at 1 1/2, 2 7/8, 5, 6 3/8.  Use snail to secure.

Add a length of the Linen Ribbon from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack around the box.

Parcels & Petals box by Jo Anne Hewins

The flower is made the same as the one on the card.  The tag in this picture uses the Parcels & Petals bundle.  I did change the tag using the Daisy Lane stamp set using the fern stamp and the word Smile.  The box below uses the Braided Linen Thread.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Next up is Jenny.  You'll enjoy her project.
