July Paper Pumpkin-A Couple Alternatives

Paper Pumpkin has evolved into a fantastic box of fun!  I just can't wait for it to be delivered each month!  I am one of those who avoids all social media about the kits until I get mine.

Paper Pumpkin has been innovative in trying some new ideas, too.  They have had kits inspired by Sara and Shelli, leaders of the company.  They have had kits that coordinate with stamp sets in the catalog.  The July kit coordinates with not just one suite in the catalog, but 3!  The On My Mind kit coordinates with the Woven Thread Suite, the Garden Lane Suite, and the Come Sail Away Suite!

Here's a video from Stampin' Up! that shows all about the kit.

Here's a picture of my cards made using the directions provided.

July 2019 Paper Pumpkin Kit by Jo Anne Hewins

Those cards are so cute.  You get enough supplies to make 3 of each card for a total of 9.  Of course, it's also fun to come up with some of your own designs.  I had to try!

July 2019 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Garden Lane by Jo Anne Hewins

For this card, I used the Pear Pizzazz circle provided for another card.  The sentiment is from the On My Mind stamp set in the kit and is stamped in Pear Pizzazz.

July 2019 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Come Sail Away by Jo Anne Hewins

For this card, I added in some of the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.  The saying and shell are from the On My Mind stamp set.  Some of the Linen Thread is added behind the banner.  I'm liking the simplicity of this card!

July 2019 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Woven Heirlooms by Jo Anne Hewins

The background of this card is stamped, some full force and some stamped off, using the Woven Heirlooms stamp set.  I added some of the patterned paper from the kit and made a label using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.

All of these cards can be made in minutes!  It's so fun!

NC Demo Blog Hop for July A Lesson in CASEing

Welcome to the NC Demo Blog Hop for July.  You might have come from Tracie's blog.  Great projects!  Be sure to check out all of the posts on the hop.  NC has some very talented stampers.

Join us blog

Our mission today is a lesson in CASEing.  As a stamper, we all do it.  We have Facebook, Pinterest, Goggle, our catalog, and lots more as great places to see lots of wonderful samples of cards.  Sometimes we just wonder why we should reinvent the wheel.  Just give credit where credit is due.  Our mission is to find a card at one of these places and copy it exactly, or as close as possible.  Then we recreate the card in our own way.  Let's get started!

NC Demo Blog Hop July Case of Wildly Happy Card by Jo Anne Hewins

You can find this card on page 101 of the 2019-2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.  There are so many samples in this catalog!  If you don't have one, you need one!  Just let me know.

The name of this stamp set is Wildly Happy.  This was so much fun to make!  I love how it turned out.  It's prettier in person.  I'll go into more detail with the next card.  Let me say I stamped the elephants in Memento Black and colored them with the Light Gray Granite Blend and the Color Lifter.  The saying is in Crushed Curry.  The base is Pool Party.  The wood look paper is from the Pressed Petals Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Use the Stitched Nested Labels to cut the shapes.  The ribbon is the White Baker's Twine and the Crushed Curry Crinkled Seam Binding.

For my own project, I chose to use the sketch of the card.  I used the Dino Days stamp set.

NC Demo Blog Hop July Dino Days Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Pretty Peacock that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  Stamp over this layer in Pretty Peacock.  The saying is in Dino Days.  You really only need to stamp around the edges.

The Dinoroar Designer Series Paper was used to make the background using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  I used the next to smallest one.  I cut a layer of Pretty Peacock that is 3 1/2 x 4 3/4.  Add the cut outs to this layer.  I started with one end (right) and made sure that the labels were straight.  Some will hang off.  Cut it all off at the end.  Then I worked from the inside of the card and went out toward the edges.  It may be that you can use a part that hangs off somewhere else on the card.  No need to waste!  Add the layer to the card front.

There is a piece of vellum measuring 2 x 3 behind the tag.  I also add a piece of the Lovely Lipstick Grosgrain Ribbon with glue dots behind where the label will go.

NC Demo Blog Hop July Dino Days Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

For the label I used the 2nd largest label from the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  Cut this from Whisper White.  Stamp the dinosaur in Lovely Lipstick and the plates down his back in Pretty Peacock.  The saying, from Dino Days, is also in Pretty Peacock.

I added the White Baker's Twine, but put the bow on the left instead of the right.  I didn't want to cover the dinosaur's face.  Add one of the Mini Library Clips.  Add the label with dimensionals.

NC Demo Blog Hop for July 2 Cards Together by Jo Anne Hewins

Here are the cards side by side.  They are so different and yet the same!  It's so interesting to see what can be made using the same layout of a card.  The possibilities are endless!

This Card is a Piece of Cake

Today I have a card using the Piece of Cake stamp set and the Cake Builder Punch.

Piece of Cake Birthday Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a card base of Blackberry Bliss that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  The next layer is Highland Heather and is 3 7/8 x 5 1/8.

The Purple Posy layer is 3 3/4 x 5.  You will be stamping your own background for this card.  I suggest you start with the larger elements and move down in size as you stamp.  Stamp the cake plate and cake in Highland Heather ink.  Now add the words in Blackberry Bliss.  I used 2 sentiments from the stamp set for this.  It was very hard to find places to stamp this.  Just remember that whatever is under the white label will not be seen.  Last, add the hearts in any spaces that need something.  Color in the cake icing and the hearts with the Dark Purple Posey Blend.

Piece of Cake Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

The Whisper White label is cut using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  This one is extended to a longer length.  You do that by the placement of your plates on the die cut machine.  I do have a video where I used this technique.  See it here.  Punch the cake plate with the Cake Builder Punch out of Blackberry Bliss cardstock.  Stamp the cake on Purple Posey cardstock in Blackberry Bliss and Punch it out.  Figure out where the candles need to be and stamp them directly on the tag.  Add the cake with dimensionals.

Use Nature's Twine, Blackberry Bliss for the ribbon.  I like to pull the strands apart to help the twine lay better on the card.  Add around the tag and tie in a bow.  Add the tag with snail.

Add some of the Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins to the card.

Piece of Cake Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of the card.  I put the cake and saying at the bottom.  The cake is stamped in Highland Heather.  Color in with the Light and Dark Purple Posey Blends.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge # 571 Woven Heirlooms

It's Thursday and we are ready for another Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  This week we are casing the catalog page 18.

CCMC571

I love that card!  I chose to use the Woven Heirlooms stamp set and the Woven Threads Designer Series Paper for my project.

CCMC #571 Case of Catalog on page 18 by Jo Anne Hewins

I love how this card turned out too.  That flower is so cute using the designer paper.

The card base is Sahara Sand measuring 4 1/4 x 11 and folded at 5 1/2.

The next layer is the Sahara Sand layer from the Woven Threads paper.  It is cut at 4 x 5.  Tear a very thin line from the right side.  Looking back I think I might go ahead and cut it to 5 1/4 and then tear.  Stamp to the right with the short textured stamp from Woven Heirlooms.  Roll up the torn end  just a little and adhere to the card front.

Use the Stitched Nested Labels Dies for the next layer.  I did extend the length of this label.  I show how to do this in a video I made earlier.  You can find that here.  Add to the lower left of the card.

Use one of the smaller Stitched Nested Labels for the Seaside Spray label.  Add this near the bottom of the layer cut above.

The flower is made using the new Perennial Flower Punch.  Punch 3 from the Woven Threads paper.  Curl the petals with your Bone Folder.  Attach with glue dots with each layer a little askew.  The center is punched with the 1/2" Circle Punch.  Add it with a dimensional.  The leaves are punched with the Leaf Punch from the Pretty Peacock paper in Woven Threads.  Add to the back of the flower with glue dots.

Add Silver Metallic Thread to the card where the flower will go.  I used a few glue dots to hold it in place.  Just run the thread around your four fingers spread out a little.  Slide off your fingers and add to the card.  Now you can rearrange it a little so that it pleases you.

CCMC #571 Woven Threads Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Add the flower with a dimensional.

Stamp the saying from Woven Heirlooms in Pretty Peacock on a scrap of Whisper White.  Fussy cut.  Use snail to add the left part of the saying and a dimensional behind the right side. (Reverse that when the saying is upside down.)

Add 3 of the Silver Metallic Pearls.

CCMC # 571 Woven Threads Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of my card.  The saying and texture stamp are from Woven Heirlooms.

CCMC#571 Case of Catalog page 18

When I first saw the Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, I wasn't really impressed.  But now, I love it.  Just look at all of those patterns together.  It's the perfect paper to add just a little something to a card that needs that little something.

Thanks for joining me today.  I hope that today you have time to go stamp a project of your own.  If you need any supplies, I can help you with that!  Shop here.

Happy Birthday, Umple Jim

Since my children were little, it's been Umple Jim.  Just a little over a year ago when my sweet little granddaughter Sagan was born, he became Grumple Jim.  That's Great Uncle.  Today I have a birthday card for Grumple.  There's probably a select few who would want this card, but Jim will love it.  It features our new Hand-Lettered Prose Dies.

Hand Lettered Birthday Card and This Little Piggy Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Let me make it clear before I get started that those globs are supposed to be mud.  Pigs like mud, right?

Jim's card begins with a card base of Soft Suede measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

The background paper is from the Neutrals 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.  It is Sahara Sand and is cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Add to the card base.

The letters are cut from the Hand-Lettered Prose Dies.  I used the same paper stack and got out a sheet of the checked Soft Suede.  I cut a piece large enough to accomodate all the letters and glued it to a piece of fun foam the same size.  Cut the letters right through the paper and fun foam.

Hand Lettered Birthday Card and This Little Piggy Fun Foam by Jo Anne Hewins

Stamp a pig from This Little Piggy on Whisper White scraps.  Use Memento black ink.  Color with the Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo Blends.  I also used just a little of the Light Soft Suede.  Fussy cut.

Mix a drop of Soft Suede ink from a reinker to some of the White Embossing Paste.  I did this on a Silicone Craft Sheet and mixed using the Palette Knives.  Add a little to the letters so that they appear to have mud on them.  Add some to the card also.  Then add a little to the pig.

Attach the pig to the card.  Now arrange the letters across the card.  Glue them in place one by one.  The Y overlaps the pig just a little.

Cut the word happy in Flirty Flamingo using the Well Written Dies and add to the top of the card.  To make the UMPLE, I cut out the words YOU, GROOM, HAPPY, LOVE.  Cut out the letters you need and piece them together.  I love that we can do that with so many words!

Hand Lettered Birthday Card and This Little Piggy Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

Let me explain the Jim loves pigs.  I think it has something to do with the fact that he once had a Harley.

Hand Lettered Birthday Card and This Little Piggy Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here's the inside of the card.  The saying is from Itty Bitty Birthdays.  Add another pig and color using the same blends.
