NC Demo Blog Hop for June - Sailing Home

Welcome to the June North Carolina Demo Blog Hop.  You might have just come from Tracie's blog.  Great project!  You are in for a treat today on the hop.

Join us blog

This month we can use or do anything we want!  I am showing you a gate card we made in class a couple weeks ago.  They really liked this card!

Sailing Home Belly Band Card by Jo Anne Hewins

The card is closed using a belly band.

Sailing Home Belly Band Card Belly Band Removed by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a card base of Night of Navy that is 4 1/4 x 11.  Score this at 2 3/4 and 8 1/4.  Fold in toward the center.   You need 2 pieces of Balmy Blue cut to 2 5/8 x 4 1/8.  The next layer is from the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.  It's the sheet with the Balmy Blue lines.  Cut two at 2 1/2 x 4.  This makes the outside of the card.

Sailing Home Belly Band Card Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, I used the saying from the stamp set Hold on to Hope.  I thought it worked so well with the saying on the outside.  Cut a Garden Green plant and add to the inside.  Stamp the anchor in Night of Navy and cut out with the Smooth Sailing Dies.  Hint:  You'll end up needing two of the anchor.

The belly band begins with a 1 1/4 x 11 piece of Night of Navy.  Score at 2 3/4 and then fold around the card.  This band is just a little short, but it will work.

For the front of the belly band you will need a piece of Night of Navy cut to 2 7/8 x 3 5/8.  Next you need a piece of the navy stripe designer paper that measures 2 3/4 x 3 1/2.  This is from the Some Sail Away paper.

Sailing Home Belly Band Card Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

We are using the Sailing Home stamp set.  With the Smooth Sailing Dies, this makes a wonderful bundle.  Stamp the saying in Night of Navy ink and cut out with the dies.  Add with dimensionals.

Cut the plants from Smooth Sailing in Garden Green and Soft Sea Foam.  You also need plants from the Under the Sea Dies.  They are also in Garden Green and Soft Sea Foam.  The darker green plant from Under the Sea is cut in half and is sticking out above and below the saying.

Add that other anchor with dimensionals.

Knot two short strands of the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Twine and pull out the strands with the Take Your Pick Tool.  Add with a glue dot.

Use Tear & Tape to add the front to the band.  Add the tape to each end of the band.  Add the panel with the band on the card to make sure it will slide on and off.

I thought a video might help a little so here it is.

Thanks so much for stopping by on your hop.  The NC Demo group is definitely filled with so many talented stampers!  You don't want to miss a single stop on the hop.  Up next is Toni.

It Starts with Art Slide Card

Erica Cerwin made a slider card with the Rooted in Nature stamp set several weeks ago.  You can find that here.  I loved this card so much, that I wanted to try it.  I used the It Starts with Art bundle to make my card.  I started to make a video, but Erica's is so good that I just decided to link to it.  You can find her video here.  She makes it so easy.  Here is my card.

It Starts with Art Pull Card by Jo Anne Hewins

It Starts with Art Pull Card Open View by Jo Anne Hewins

You will need a piece of Bermuda Bay and Whisper White that both measure 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, a piece of Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper that is 4 x 5 1/4, a white rectangle that is 2 1/2 x 4 5/8, and a piece of vellum that is 2 1/4 x 3 that has been run through the Big Shot with the Button Button Embossing Folder.  You'll also need various buttons cut from the Arts & Crafts dies in Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, and Coastal Cabana and a Calypso Coral Starburst made with our Starburst Punch.

We made this card in one of my classes.  Here's a copy of a direction sheet I made for them.

Pull card for June class

It Starts with Art stamp set and Arts & Crafts Dies

Rectangle Stitched Dies

Bermuda Bay Cardstock 4 ¼ x 5 1/2

Follow Your Art DSP 4 x 5 ¼

White Cardstock 4 ¼ x 5 ½, 2 3/4 x 4

Add Designer Paper to Bermuda Bay. Glue very well (All over)

Rectangle Stitched Die (2 ¾ x 4) Cut only 3 sides. Place in the middle. You might want to use washi tape to hold it. Place so that the top plate does not cover the 4th side. Cut.

Score 1) along the top where cut edge meets uncut. Use bone folder on score lines.

2) 1 5/8 from that line

3) ½” from bottom

Attach whole white sheet on three sides only.

Punch 1 1/2” Circle Punch about ¼ of a circle. Center at the top. Punch top layer and whole white sheet to match.

Attach white 2 ½ x 4 5/8 to the bottom of the cut flap.

Add Vellum just at the bottom.

I would suggest watching Erica's video.  It is so helpful.

Now add the Calypso Coral Starburst.

Stamp the spools of ribbon in Memento Black.  Color in using the Light and Dark Calypso Coral, and the Light Bermuda Bay Blends.  Cut out using the Arts & Crafts dies and add to the card with dimensionals.

Stamp the saying on a 1/2 inch of scrap and add to the card.  I stamped in Bermuda Bay.

Add the buttons with glue dots and dimensionals.  Make sure you do not glue your flaps shut.

The saying is from the It Starts with Art stamp set stamped in Bermuda Bay.  I think this is a really cute card.  If you have any questions, contact me!

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #567 Parcels & Petals

Hello to you today!  It's the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge # 567.  We have a color challenge.  We are using Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral, and Granny Apple Green.

CCMC567

Here is my card for this challenge.  I used the Parcels & Petals stamp set and the Perfect Parcels Dies.

CCMC #567 Parcels & Petals Bundle by Jo Anne Hewins

I do say lots of times that I love a card.  I do love this one.  I didn't think that Poppy Parade and Calypso Coral would work, but it certainly does.

My card base is Poppy Parade that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded in half at 4 1/4.  The next layer is  Granny Apple Green cut at 3 3/4 x 5.  The Whisper White layer is 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.  Run it through your die machine with the Tin Tile Embossing Folder.  That folder makes your card just a little fancier, doesn't it!

The design behind the flowers was cut using the Perfect Parcels Dies.  I love the detail in the die.  It does work perfectly with the Tin Tile background.

The flowers are stamped using the Parcels & Petals stamp set.  I used the big stamp that has the three flowers.  Stamp in Poppy Parade and in stamped off Poppy Parade.  Stamp in Calypso Coral and stamped off Calypso Coral.    Fussy cut lots of flowers.  I got the idea to cut these out and layer them from the sample on page 27 of the catalog.  Our catalog has so many beautiful samples and so many ideas.  I catch myself just looking through there all the time for all the little details.

Use a Bone Folder to curl up the ends of the petals of the flowers.

Stamp lots of leaves in Granny Apple Green and cut these out.

CCMC # 567 Parcels & Petals by Jo Anne Hewins

Give each flower at least two layers.  Mix and match the colors.  I used glue dots.  Add in leaves where you think they need to be.  Add Basic Pearls to the center of the flowers.  Arrange on the card.

The sentiment is from the Parcels & Petals stamps set.  Stamp in Calypso Coral and trim.

CCMC # 567 Parcels & Petals Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is how I finished the inside of the card.  It's all from the Parcel & Petals stamp set.  I did tape off the other 2 flowers from the three flower stamp and just stamp the one flower.

CCMC#567 Parcels & Petals by Jo Anne Hewins

Check out the Parcels & Petals Bundle on page 27 of the Stampin' Up! Annual catalog.  You are going to love it!

If you need supplies to make this card or any card, I would love for you to consider me!  Thank you!

The Perennial Flower Punch

Recently, I had a Luv 2 Create team meeting.  We try to get together every month.  At this meeting I had decorated water bottles for the team.

Perennial Flower Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

I really like the way that the flower turned out.  It was my first time using the Perennial Flower Punch.  First I wrapped the bottle with a piece of Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper striped Petal Pink around the bottle.  It measured 1 1/2 x 8 1/2.  I crinkled up the paper like a ball of trash, pulled it back out, and used it that way.

Punch out three of the flower from Petal Pink cardstock.  Crinkle these up, too.  Add them together a little askew with glue dots.  The center is in Early Espresso punched with the 1/2" circle punch.

Trim leaves from the Mossy Meadow leaf paper that is also part of the Magnolia Lane DSP.  Add these to the back of the flower.

The tag is part of the Stamping Your Way to the Top stamp set that is a supply item for demonstrators.  Stamp in Mossy Meadow and cut out with the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  Add to the bottle with dimensionals.

I gave each person at my meeting a baggie with supplies and gave them a challenge.  Create a card with the supplies you have.  It's OK to use the flower from the bottle, but not necessary.

Luv 2 Create Team Meeting Challenge

Here is my card for the challenge.  By the way, those on my team who complete the challenge get a package of dimensionals.

Perennial Flower Challenge Card by Jo Anne Hewins

My base is Early Espresso.  There is a piece of Magnolia Lane paper cut at 4 x 5 1/4.  I took the wrapper for the bottle and the flower and added it down the side.  Run the Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon across the card.  Stamp Thank You on a Whisper White scrap in Early Espresso.  This is from the Beginner Brochure.  The stamp set is Magnolia Blooms.  Cut this out with the Stitched Shapes Dies.  Add to the card.  Cut out a few more leaves from the Magnolia Lane paper.  Add a bow of the Petal Pink ribbon.  Quick and cute!

I have had a few people accept the challenge.  Here are their cards.

Challenge- LaurenThis card is by Lauren Vaughan.

Challenge- CindyThis card is by Cindy Rose.

Challenge- SandyThis card is by Sandy Herman.

Challenge- TonyaThis card is by Tonya Laws.

Wow!  Aren't they talented!  The dimensionals are on order!  Actually they arrive today!  Thanks so much for participating!

Thinking of joining the Stampin' Up! family.  My Luv 2 Create team is fantastic.  I'm in North Carolina, but you don't have to be.  Contact me!  I would love to have you.

Ride With Me Bundle

I had Stampin' Bingo at my home this past Saturday.  I'll add a few pictures at the end of my post today.  We all had a lot of fun.  At my Bingo, we have a seat gift, door prizes, Bingo prizes, 2 Make & Takes, and food, of course!  One of the Make & Takes used the Ride With Me bundle.  My project is a simple one since time is a bit of a factor.  Each person gets a baggie with everything needed.  I did go ahead and cut out the truck with the Truck Ride dies.  I needed a piece of Real Red cardstock that measured 4 1/2 x 6.  You can get 2 out of a sheet of cardstock with enough left over for fenders.  I also stamped the windows, front grill, and the back in Memento Black.

Ride with Me Kit by Jo Anne Hewins

Of course, if you are going to stamp on the truck, take note that it will be impossible once it is put together.  You could add other decor later, but I found it easier to add all of that before you put the truck together.  Here are a few suggestions.

  • Use your Bone Folder to burnish each fold line and tags.  It just makes everything so much easier.
  • Stamp anything you need before you put the truck together.
  • I stamped the windows again on Gray Granite.  Fussy cut.  I stamped the tires, too.  Cut the tires with the dies.  You can cut two at a time.  Use a Dark Basic Black Blend or Stampin' Right Marker to color the tires.
  • The fenders are stamped in black on Real Red cardstock.  You will need 2 for each side of the truck.  There is a die for each side of the truck since they face in a different direction.
  • For the headlights, I used a regular hole punch and Daffodil Delight cardstock.  Mount each on a glue dot.
  • Use glue to adhere the parts of the truck.  When gluing hold for a few seconds until set.  The good thing about glue is that it does have a little give for a few seconds.

Truck 5 by Jo Anne Hewins

I colored the inside of the tires.  It would probably be best to color the tires themselves.

Truck 3 by Jo Anne Hewins

For the treat I filled a bag with three of the peanut butter bars.  I thought these candies would be a good thing for a truck since they look like logs.  Alass, they were too big.  This truck is not a big truck!  Since I had already purchased the candy, I made it work.  Tie with Braided Linen Thread.  I also tied some of the Leaf Ribbon.  I thought it would work in well.

Truck 4 by Jo Anne Hewins

The saying on the tag, was stamped using the Ride with Me stamp set.  I masked the top part of the saying with tape and stamped the bottom.  Cut out with the Stitched Nested Labels.  Tie with Linen Thread.

I used a few glue dots to anchor the bag in the truck.  I will tell you that the bag is a little heavy and just might tip the truck back.  Add a little weight under the hood!

Truck by Jo Anne Hewins

I have a video showing how to put the truck together.  I think pictures just might be better than words.  I hope you find it helpful!
