A First Frost Sympathy Card

By request, I have a sympathy card class coming up.  We don't want sympathy cards.  We don't want to need sympathy cards.  Unfortunately we do need them.  Usually we need them without a lot of warning.  It's good to have some on hand.  This is one of the cards we will be making in this class.

First Frost Sympathy Card by Jo Anne Hewins

I was inspired to make this card by Lolly & Sand.  Isn't it pretty!  Embossing folders must be one of the best crafting inventions ever!  Just look at all the texture on this card.  Here's how to make it.

Start with a card base of Thick Whisper White that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4.  The next layer is Whisper White that measures 4 x 5 1/4.  Run this layer through the Big Shot with the Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I love the long name.  My suggestion is that you look at the folder carefully and center your layer as best as you can.  It will just make your card look better.  Adhere to the card front.  Now take a piece of Whisper White cut at 1 1/4 x 5 1/4.  Run it through the Big Shot with the Corrrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Glue to the card close to the bottom.

The wording on this card is made using the Well Said Bundle.  Stamp the word heartfelt in Merry Merlot on a scrap.  Just trim around it with snips.  Cut out the word sympathy from Merry Merlot cardstock.  I would suggest two ways to add this word to the card.  First you could use the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to turn the word into a sticker.  The second way is to use the Silicone Craft Mat and add a little glue in the corner.  Turn the word over and sponge on glue.

First Frost Sympathy Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

The First Frost stamp set was in the Holiday catalog.  It is being carried over.  It's #148420.  The coordinating Frosted Bouquet Framelits are #147895.  I used Merry Merlot and Mossy Meadow pads.  Stamp on Whisper White and cut out with the framelits.  For the clover that uses both colors, put the stamp on the stamparatus and color the stamp using the Merry Merlot and the Mossy Meadow Stampin' Write Markers.  I did put some of the flowers and greenery on dimensionals.

First Frost Sympathy Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside of the card, the saying is from Well Said.  Stamp in Merry Merlot.  Add the tall stem and add a flower.

First Frost Sympathy Well Written by Jo Anne Hewins

This card could be used for many occasions just by changing the words.  I think it could make a pretty wedding card.

Humming Along Meets Wink of Stella

Hello and welcome to the Stamping Around the World Blog Hop.  You may have just come from Jenny Hayward.  Great project, right!

Stamping Around the World Blog Hop banner

My name is Jo Anne Hewins and I'm from the United States.   For this hop, we feature the same stamp sets that used in the tutorial!  That gives you extra ideas to use with the tutorial!  I'll be using the Humming Along stamp set and an idea shared by Wendy Cranford using Wink of Stella.

Humming Along and Wink of Stella by Jo Anne Hewins

Start with a card base of Bermuda Bay.  It measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Fold.  Stamp over the front of the card with the large hibiscus stamp.  I stamped in Bermuda Bay and stamped off so the image would not be as dark.  This is from the Humming Along stamp set.

A strip of Melon Mambo paper measuring 1 x 5 1/2 is added just below the midline of the card.  This is from the How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper.

Stamp the hummingbird in Tuxedo Memento Black on Whisper White cardstock.  I used the Stamparatus to stamp to make sure that my image is dark and crisp.  Color in the hummingbird using Watercolor Pencils.  I used Pumpkin Pie, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, and Melon Mambo.  Go over the sections with the Wink of Stella.  This will smooth out the coloring and add a little dazzle.  Between colors rub the Wink of Stella on scrap paper to get out the color from before.

Cut out the bird with the Hummingbird Framelits.

Humming Along and Wink of Stella Close Up by Jo Anne Hewins

The sentiment for this card is from the Birthday Cheer stamp set.  Stamp in Melon Mambo.  Once again I did use the Stamparatus for my stamping.  Cut this out with the Stitched Shapes largest oval.

Add the saying and the bird with dimensionals.

Add some of the Melon Mambo Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots.

Humming Along with Wink of Stella Inside by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of my card.  I used a piece of Whisper White that is 4 x 5 1/4.  Add a 1/4 inch strip of the Melon Mambo How Sweet It Is DSP.  Next add a piece of Bermuda Bay with the hibiscus stamped off.  This piece measures 1 1/4 x 4.  the saying is from the Birthday Cheer stamp set.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #553 Balloon Bouquet

It's Thursday and time for the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  We have a color challenge this week.

CCMC553

We are using Gray Granite, So Saffron, and Mango Melody.  For these challenges I often to go our designer papers to see what's available in our colors.  I decided to go with it.  I don't know if you have noticed the 6 x 6 papers that we have in each color family.  They are a treasure!

CCMC # 553 Balloon Bouquet Punch by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Mango Melody that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded in half.  Next is a layer of Whisper White that is 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.  Finally there is a layer is Gray Granite that measures 4 x 5 1/4.  This paper is from the Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper.

The balloons are punched out with the Balloon Bouquet Punch.  The So Saffron balloons come from the Subtles 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper and the Mango Melody balloons are from the Brights 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.  I think they look really festive and cute!

Using the Whisper White Baker's Twine, add strings to the balloons.  Arrange these on your paper as you wish them to be.  I then used snail to attach the balloons.  The string ends were pulled around and taped to the back of the paper.

CCMC #553 Balloon Bouquet Punch and Well Written by Jo Anne Hewins

The happy birthday was cut from the Well Written Framelits. Use the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to make them into stickers.  So easy!  I will say to be careful not to lose the dot of the letter i.  Ask me how I know!

Add a few balloons inside the card.  The saying is from the Birthday Cheer stamp set.  Stamp in Gray Granite.

CCMC#553 Balloon Bouquet Card by Jo Anne Hewins

This is an easy card with not a lot of stamping.  Don't you just love punching, though.  I do!

Picked for You My Friend

I challenged myself to use a stamp set that has never seen ink.  Now maybe you don't have that problem.  I admit it, I do.  If I'm truthful, I have several!  So today I am using the Picked for You stamp set.  It's in the annual catalog on page 171.  I'm a retired mostly first grade teacher so the set appealed to me.  The set is perfect for that special teacher gift and the end of the school year will be here before you know it.  That's not what I have made today.  I must also give credit to Sue Mohr for the inspiration I got from a card she has posted with this set on Pinterest.

Picked for You by Jo Anne Hewins

I think the reason I put off using this set is because it's a four step stamp for the apple.  It was a little daunting for me.  So I will also tell you that the Stamparatus is your friend.  It wasn't that hard!  I'll have a video at the end of my post.

Start will a card base of Thick Whisper White that is cut 4 1/4 x 11.  Score at 5 1/2 and fold.

I used the Painted Seasons Designer Series Paper for this card.  It's still available as a choice for Sale-a-Bration.  Don't miss out!  This paper is so pretty!  Cut the Pool Party paper to the same size as the card front 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and adhere.

The Rectangle Stitched Framelits have become a staple in my stamping world.  I love them!  I used the #2 and #5 to make the frame from Whisper White.  Glue to the card.

The branch was cut in Soft Suede using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits.  I've almost hidden it with the leaves.

The leaves are cut from the Call Me Clover piece of paper from the Painted Seasons DSP.  I used the Lemon Builder Punch.  I used glue dots and dimensionals to add the leaves.  For some I even used my Bone Folder to curl them a little.  I'm sure mailing will flatten those down, but they look so nice right now!

Picked for You Close Up of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

So, the apple.  Actually the parts of the apple are numbered.  I started with one.  There is also a V shaped cut out at the top of the stamp so you'll know the direction.  Use the Stamparatus, of course!  I used the colors Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Lovely Lipstick, and Soft Suede in that order.  I would set it all up using scrap paper and the go to the real thing.  When done, I went over the apple with my Aqua Painter.  Fussy cut and add to the card on dimensionals.

For the sentiment, stamp on Whisper White in Cherry Cobbler.  Cut this out with the Stitched Labels Framelits.  Add to the card with dimensionals.  I tied a little knot with the Call Me Clover Grograin Ribbon and added it with a glue dot.

Picked for You Inside of Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of my card.  I added a one inch strip of the Pool Party paper and 2 more leaves from the Call Me Clover paper.  Don't you love the saying!  You can see this set isn't just for teachers.

Picked for You Friend Card by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is my video.  I got the mat a little crooked after using the Big Shot.  I think you can still see everything all right.  Sorry about that!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I love to share and it tickles me that someone actually looks!  Did you know that you can subscribe to my Youtube channel?  Please do and share the video with those you think might like it, too.  Thanks so much! March Tutorial Teaser

Home Decor SU Style Blog Hop Fable Friends

This is my first time taking part in the Home Decor SU Style Blog Hop.  I'm so excited to be part of the hop!

SU Home Decor image

I do have to admit, that I didn't make my project for today.  My good friend and Luv 2 Create team member Jean Lovelace made this frame for me.  I just felt that it needed to be shared.  I hope you don't mind.  Here is her beautiful frame.

Home Decor by Jo Anne Hewins

First, let me say that Jean got the frame itself at Hobby Lobby.  It's perfect, isn't it!

Start with a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock that measures 5 x 7.  Use the Basket Weave Embossing Folder for this background.  Since the background piece is so large, you will need to run the paper through 2 times.  If you are careful, you can match the designs so that they continue across the card.  The picture below shows where Jean pieced her embossing.  Can you see it?

Home Decor Matching Embossing Folder by Jo Anne Hewins

She did a great job!  It's really hard to tell.

The blue letters are actually cut from Fun Foam using the Large Letters Framelits.  Another set of letters was cut using Whisper White cardstock.  The white letters are glued on so that there looks like a shadow behind them.

Stamp the bunny from Fable Friends in Tuxedo Memento Black ink on Whisper White paper.  Color using Blends.  I think Jean used Light and Dark Balmy Blue and Light and Dark Crumb Cake Blends.  Glue the bunny to the side of the letter O.  Add dimensionals to the back of the bunny where he sticks past the letter.  Space the letters on the background as you wish and then glue.

Home Decor outside of frame by Jo Anne Hewins

Thank you so much, Jean!  I love it!  Maybe you have someone you think would like this frame.  Make them one!  It will put a smile on their face!

Home Decor by Jo Anne Hewins

This gift is perfect from Jean.  She's not only an accomplished card maker, but also a basket maker.  That background is just so perfect for her.  I've some projects close to this one, but Jean has put her mark on it!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Please continue on the hop.  You'll see some great projects.
