Be Mine Valentine, Paper Pumpkin for January

Do you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin?  If you do, you know the joy of getting that little orange red box in the mail.  I don't look at any of the posts or spoilers online.  I want to be surprised!  So, spoiler alert.  Today I have some alternative projects for the Be Mine Valentine January Paper Pumpkin.  The neat part about this kit is that it coordinates with the Animal Expedition Suite found on pages 26 and 27 of the Annual catalog.  There is the Animal Outing stamp set, the Animal Friends Thinlits Dies, and the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper.  Here's a video of the kit.

I made two of the treats.  They are so cute.  This kit has supplies to make 24 of these treats!  Wow!

The pillow boxes have designs on both sides so you can use either side.  Of course there are directions, but you can go rogue and do it your way.

I'd like to show you two alternatives for the kit.  I will be using some outside supplies.

Be Mine Valentine Paper Pumpkin for January alternate card 2 by Jo Anne Hewins

I absolutely love how this card turned out!  The card base is standard A2 size and is Lemon Lime Twist card stock.  The next layer is from the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper in Basic Gray cut at 4 x 5 1/4.  Add a banner of the Lemon Lime Twist  patterned paper.  It measures 1 1/8 x 4.  Run this through the Big Shot with the stem from the Animal Friends Framelits Dies.  I had never noticed this framelit.  It's really neat.  Some of the leaves do not cut out completely.  Bend them up.  Use the Banner Triple Punch to notch the ends.  Roll the ends up a little with your Bone Folder.  Cut a frame from the pillow box using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  There will be  folds through the center of the frame, but they do not really show up.  Add the kangaroo from the kit on the outside of the frame.  Cut one of the paper hearts from the kit at an angle so that it appears to be stuck into the pouch of the kangaroo. Cut apart the chameleons and put one on each lower corner.  The rhino has been cut from the Animal Expedition paper using the Animal Friends Framelits. Add inside the frame.  I did fussy cut the branch from the designer paper.  The sentiment is from the Paper Pumpkin kit.  Stamp in Melon Mambo.  Add an enamel heart.

Be Mine Valentine Paper Pumpkin for January alternate card 1 by Jo Anne Hewins

This card has a standard base in Lemon Lime Twist.  Using the Paper Pumpkin stamp set, stamp the chameleon in the same color randomly around the outside of the front.  The Whisper White card stock measures 3 x 4 1/4.  Stamp the same chameleon in Pool Party around the outside of this paper.  The next layer is 2 1/2 x 3 3/4.  It is the Lemon Lime Twist paper from the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper.  Add this layer with dimensionals.  Now adhere the inside of the rectangle cut from the card above using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  I used the Pool Party side.  The sentiment is from the Animal Outing stamp set.  Stamp on Whisper White in Blushing Bride ink.  The Whisper White rectangle is 1 1/2 x 2 3/8.  Add some the Blushing Bride enamel hearts around the sentiment.  You'll want to use dimensionasl to add this layer.  Add the chameleons from the kit.  Glue where the die cut is on the surface of the layer and mini dimensionals where it hangs over the edge.

Bloom by Bloom

The Bloom by Bloom stamp set is on page 25 of the Occasions catalog and is part of the Happiness Blooms Suite pictured on pages 24 and 25.  It's just so happy!  Today I have a rather simple card using this stamp set.

Bloom by Bloom for Whisk & Barrel by Jo Anne Hewins

I like the crisp simplicity of Night of Navy, Lovely Lipstick, and Whisper White.

Begin with a card base of Night of Navy that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  It's a standard size.

You will need another piece of Night of Navy cut at 3 3/4 x 5.  Run this through the Big Shot with the new Dot to Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  It's also on page 25.  Adhere to the base.

The Happiness Blooms Designer Series Paper reminds me of the 70's.  Yes, I've been around for a while!

Happiness Blooms 12" X 12" (30.5 X 30.5 Cm) Designer Series Paper

Isn't it fun!  I used the large navy and white dots.  Cut this at 2 x 5.  Use the Banner Triple Punch to notch one end.  Add to the left of the card.

Stamp the flower on Whisper White card stock.  The flower is stamped in Lovely Lipstick and the stem is in Call Me Clover.  Add the Night of Navy dots over the top of the flower.  Another wonderful product in the Occasions catalog is the Retangle Stitched Framelits.  Cut around the flower using the framelits.  These framelits are on page 28 at the bottom left.  They are easy to overlook.

Run a length of the Lovely Lipstick Grosgrain Ribbon across the lower part of the panel.  Add a bow with a glue dot.

Add a few of the Lovely Lipstick Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots around the flower.

The saying is from the stamp set Itty Bitty Birthdays from page 16 of the Occasions catalog.  Stamp in Lovely Lipstick on a piece of 1/2 inch Whisper White.  Notch the end and add to the card.

Here's the inside of the card.  This saying is also from the Itty Bitty Birthdays.  Stamp another flower like the front of the card.

By the Bay, a Sale-a-Bration Stamp Set

I'm just going to be honest.  I have been intimidated by the By the Bay stamp set.  I just had to have it and then I didn't know what to do with it.  Does that ever happen to you?  It happens to me more than I want to admit.  I've been searching Pinterest for samples made using this set.  I did see one from Amy Koenders that inspired me to use this set.  I'm going to give Amy credit for the yellow sky.  I just thought hers was so pretty.  Here is my card.

By the Bay By Jo Anne Hewins

I used Watercolor Paper for my project.  I also used the Stamparatus to mount the stamp set.  I'm glad I did because I did have to stamp a couple times to get it as dark as I wanted.  Use your Stazon Black pad for this.  I used an Aqua Painter for my inks.  I chose to use my smallest blocks and simply dab them on my ink pad.  Then I colored from the blocks.  I am no watercolor artist!  I just had fun.  I will say that the first Aqua Painter I used no longer came to a point when wet.  That was a problem here so I switched to another one.  I did look at several Pinterest samples as I colored.  That made it a little easier for me to tell what was what.  Cut this out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  After cutting, I roughed up the edges using the blade from open scissors.  I ended up pushing up on the edges and sponging with Crumb Cake ink.  I did sponge a little of the Crumb Cake on the yellow sky.  The colors I used are Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue, Crumb Cake, Smoky Slate, Lemon Lime Twist, and Cajun Craze.

By the Bay watercolor by Jo Anne Hewins

The card base is Crumb Cake cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  You'll need another layer of Crumb Cake that is 4 x 5 1/4.  Run this through the Big Shot with the Tin Tile Dynamic Impressions Embossing Folder.  Use a sponge dauber to add Crumb Cake ink over the design.  This will help it to show up a little better.  Glue to the card front.

Add a strip of the Daffodil Delight Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper.  This strip measures 1 3/4 x 5 1/2.  I felt like this layer needed to be aged a little.  Sponge on more of the Crumb Cake ink.  Add to the center of the card.

Use the Nature's Twine in Crumb Cake to the card.  This twine is thick and I like to pull it apart so it will lie down a little flatter.  Run the twine around the card and tape in the front where the watercolor square will be.  Add the watercolor with dimensionals and then add the bow with a glue dot.

By the Bay inside by Jo Anne Hewins

For the inside, the saying is from the By the Bay set.  Stamp it and the birds stamp in Stazon.  These were colored the same as the front.  Paint quickly and do not go over and over a spot since this is not watercolor paper.  Add a strip of the yellow check that has been aged with the sponge dauber and Crumb Cake ink.  The strip is 1/2 inch wide.

By the Bay card by Jo Anne Hewins

I really like this card.  I just might be ready to tackle another card using this stamp set.  It really is pretty.  I have a friend that lives at the beach.  I just might have to surprise her with this card!

The By the Bay stamp can be yours free with a $50 order during Sale-a-Bration.  Let me know if you have questions about that.  There's more free stuff!  Read on!

Stamping Around the World Blog Hop for January

Welcome to the Stamping Around the World Blog Hop for January.  This is our first blog hop and I'm so excited!

Stamping Around the World Blog Hop

This amazing group of stampers from around the globe have joined forces to offer you a fabulous tutorial of 10 cards.  This is our first month.  I can definitely say that I'm very proud to be a part of this group.  We decided that you just might want to get to know us a little better.   This blog hop will be perfect!  I'll get back to the tutorial a little later.

Our theme this time will be to use the same stamp set we featured in the tutorial.  This way, you'll get yet another sample for the stamp sets used.  I used the Wonderful Romance bundle.  Here is my card for today.

Wonderful Romance sentiment card by Jo Anne Hewins

I wanted to try using the technique of using blends with gold embossing.  I love how this card turned out.  It isn't that hard, but it is a little time consuming.  You'll also need the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies found on page 28 of the Occasions catalog.  The picture is stuck in a corner and might be easy to overlook.

Start with a card base of Shaded Spruce that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

Cut a frame using the largest two rectangle dies and a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White.  Set aside.

Take a piece of Shaded Spruce that is 4 x 5 1/4.  Rub the Embossing Buddy over the paper.  Stamp over this paper randomly with Versamark and the largest leaf cluster stamp.  Add Gold Emboss Powder and heat with the Heat Tool.  Now using the 2nd largest rectangle, and skip three to the next to cut a frame from this paper.

Stamp the sentiment from Wonderful Romance in Shaded Spruce in the center of a 2 1/2 x 4 Whisper White piece.  Cut using the smallest rectangle that you just used.

Add the Shaded Spruce frame to the card front centering as best as you can.  Now add the white frame on the outside.  I added this thinner one after the spruce to help keep it straight.  Put the last rectangle on the inside of the spruce frame.

Stamp 3 of the larger leaf clusters, 4 of the smaller leaf clusters, and 15 flowers in Versamark on Whisper White.  It's great to use up some of your white scraps.  Work in groups.  Stamp in Versamark, Gold Emboss Powder, and heat until all are done.  Use the Light and Dark Shaded Spruce and the Light and Dark Lovely Lipstick Blends to color these.  Cut out using the coordinating Wonderful Floral Framelits.  This is a lot to cut out.  This set of framelits does have 4 of the tiny flower dies so you can cut out a lot at one time!  Add these around the frame.  Don't cover up the beautiful embossing on the spruce frame.  I did put Mini Dimensionals under the outer leaf of the large clusters.  Glue the rest.  Add the flowers with glue dots.

This is so pretty in real life.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #544 Hey Love

Welcome once again to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  Today we have a sketch.

CCMC544

I used the Hey Love stamp set for my card along with the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper.  Here is my card.

CCMC #544 Hey Love by Jo Anne Hewins

I love this little otter.  My neice Alison loves sea otters and I always think of her when I see them.  I think she would love this card.  Don't tell her, I just might send it to her!

The card base is Fresh Fig measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.

The next layer is Balmy Blue.  I used the Seaside Embossing Folder on this layer to make you think of the otter floating on the ocean.

Let's talk about the patterned papers in the background.  The wavy look paper in multiple colors measures 2 x 4 1/2.  The Mint Macaron paper is 1 1/4 x 3 3/4.  The Fresh Fig strip is 1/2 x 3 3/4.    There is a Tranquil Tide strip that is 1/4 inch wide that is just tucked in at each side.

CCMC#544 Hey Love close up by Jo Anne Hewins

For the circle, first cut the wavy Tranquil Tide paper.  In my mind this is sea weed.  You just may need to stretch your imagination.  I used the swirly die from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.  I hadn't used these in a while.  It's a little sad that we tend to forget the old stuff when the new comes in.  Glue this down to a piece of the Balmy Blue designer paper.  Cut using the second largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  Cut a scallop circle using the Layering Circles Framelits.  This is also from the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper.  All the patterned papers on this card are from that pack.  Glue the big circles to the card.

Stamp the otter in Memento Black ink on Whisper White card stock.  Color the otter in Light and Dark Crumb Cake and just a little of the Light Soft Suede Blends.  I tried to use the Color Lifter a little on the stomach and face.  Color the heart with a Fresh Fig Stampin' Write marker, cut it out, and place in the otter's hands.  Cut out the otter and add him to the card with dimensionals.

For the saying, stamp on white scraps in Fresh Fig.  Cut around the words and add them to the banner.

CCMC #544 Hey Love inside by Jo Anne Hewins

Here is the inside of the card.  I used the same blend colors except I added some of the Light Balmy Blue Blend around the otter.

What a cute valentine this card turned out to be!  I'm really loving the Hey Love stamp set.  You can find a few other samples here and here and here.
