Two Very Special Women in My Life and a Card: NC Demo Blog Hop

I was super excited to see that the theme of our blog hop this month could be special women in our lives!  The timing couldn't be better!  You see my daughter Jessie just gave birth to a super brand new female in my life, my granddaughter Sagan,  just this past Wednesday!  It's my first grandchild!  Mother and baby are doing great!

Welcome to the April Blog Hop.  You might have just come from  Toni's  blog.  I'm sure you saw a great project!  I'm going to talk about my card.  I promise to have more pictures at the end of this post of baby and mom.  You must look at them, too, please!  Here is my card.

Animal Outing Baby and Mom card by Jo Anne Hewins

We got this Animal Outing stamp set at the Atlanta OnStage!  I loved it at once.  I used gray, pink, and white for my card because those are the colors in the nursery.  I looked at images of kangaroos and I think that some might be gray.  I always thought of them as brown.  Anyway, this one is gray.

The card base is Smoky Slate 4 1/4 x 11 and folded at 5 1/2.  The patterned paper is from the Whole Lot of Lovely Designer Series Paper.  It's cut at 4 x 5 1/4.

The kangaroo is stamped in Memento Black ink on Whisper White.  I used the Light and Dark Smoky Slate, the Dark Pink Pirouette, and the Color Lifter Blends to color the kangaroo and baby.  Use the Layering Ovals Framelits to cut out the kangaroo and a coordinating Powder Pink scalloped oval.  Before attaching the ovals with dimensionals, run a length of the Smoky Slate Gingham Ribbon around the card.  Add a bow with glue dots just to the side.

The words on this card were stamped using the new Make a Difference stamp set.  Isn't it a lovely cursive!  It's so easy to link the letters.  It's recommended to stamp the letters one at a time and that works well.

For the inside of the card, I added the kangaroo again with sentiments from the Animal Outing stamp set.

Thanks for sharing with me one of the most special times of my life.

And now, as promised are a few pictures of this special little girl and her family.  She is one of the most beautiful babies ever.   You know that I'm not a bit prejudiced!

Sagan Hewins Raeford

Sagan Hewins Raeford was born on Wednesday, April 25th at 6:27 pm.  She weighed 7 pounds and is 19 1/2 inches long.

Baby 5

Here are my girls, Jessie and Sagan.  Even writing this my heart just swells and there are tears of joy.  Sagan is truly a miracle.  You might be interested in a little background story posted here.

Baby 2

Here is the new little family.  I can't wait to watch how their lives together develop.  There will be joys, and maybe days that might not be that great.  But as a family they will form those lives and work together.  I'm expecting greatness.

Does Grammie look a little proud?

Baby 10

And here we are together.  Three generations of girl power.  Yes, these are 2 very important people in my life!

Thanks so much for joining me in this little adventure.  Next up is Tracie.  She always has a wonderful project.

Gotta Love the Large Number Framelits

I must say that I was in shock when I saw the Large Number Framelits on the Last Chance list.  Moan!  So I decided that I must use them one last time.  I'll just be honest, these framelits will remain in my collection.  They are so useful.  You really don't want to miss out!  Here is the card I made.

Large Numbers Framelits and Tutti Frutti by Jo Anne Hewins

I like how this card turned out!  I used the Tutti Frutti Designer Series Paper stack.  This paper is near to my heart.  I'm sad that it is also going away.

The card base is Thick Whipser White measuring 4 1/4 x 11.  Score this at 5 1/2 and use your Bone Folder to burnish the fold.  Use the black and white stripe paper to cover the entire front of the card.  Cut the paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.

Pick out the pieces of patterned paper you want to use and cut out the numbers using the Large Numbers Framelits and the Big Shot.  I used the numbers 0 through 8.  Glue these to your card in any way that you please.  I chose to use no real order and to hang a few off the sides of the card.  Just turn the card over and trim those pieces sticking out right off.

I used the Labeler Alphabet stamp set to make my greeting for the front of the card.  I wanted this to be a birthday card and decided this would be perfect for most any adult, especially my friends.  Sorry, friends!  Stamp the words and then trim around them.  Attach with dimensionals.

Here's the inside of the card.  I used the Stlyized Birthday stamp.  It's also going away!  Punch a large balloon with the Balloon Bouquet punch from more of the Tutti Frutti paper and add an Linen Thread string.  I used a 1/2 inch piece of the striped paper along the bottom.  It was left over from something.  Why not use it!

This is a great card to use up some of those scraps.  Maybe you don't keep all of the itty bitties like me.  It's so hard to throw them away.

The Large Numbers Framelits do coordinate with the Large Letters Framelits.  If you have the letters, you certainly need the numbers!  Check out the Last Chance list here.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #507 Garden in Bloom

Good morning!  Welcome to the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #507.  Today we have a color challenge.

CCMC507

We are using Island Indigo, Crumb Cake, and Old Olive.  This week I am using stamp sets that will be retiring.  Garden in Bloom has been around for a while and a favorite of many.  It is sad to see it go away.  Here's my card.

CCMC #507 by Jo Anne Hewins

Another favorite going away is the Brick Wall Embossing Folder.  We have loved it so!  My card has a Crumb Cake card base measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  Emboss the front of the card with the Brick Wall folder.  Sponge over this with Crumb Cake ink to make the bricks show up.

The Very Vanilla rectangle is 2 3/4 x 4.  Stamp the sentiment in Island Indigo in the center of the rectangle.

Two of the large flowers were stamped on a separate piece of Very Vanilla.  Stamp the outline in Island Indigo.  Stamp off when stamping the inside of the flowers.  The center is Crumb Cake.  On the vanilla scrap, stamp 2 sets of the large leaves.  Stamp the outline in Old Olive and stamp off for the inside of the leaves.  Cut out the flowers and leaves.

Lay these flowers down on the vanilla to see just where you want them.  Then stamp another set of leaves directly on the rectangle so that they will appear to come from under the flowers.

Stamp the smaller flowers and leaves using the same technique as above.  Stamp directly on the vanilla rectangle.

Adhere the rectangle to the center of the card front.  I then added the two large flowers.  I used a glue dot for the center of the flower and then the mini dimensionals on the petals of the flowers.  Add those extra leaves to the underside of the flowers extending beyond the vanilla piece.

I did add a Linen Thread bow to add a little more interest to the card.

This is the inside of the card.  I might have gone a little overboard in adding the flowers.  I didn't mean to have so many of the small flowers, but I ended up with a few smudges.  Crafters just find a way to fix it if possible.  As we say, mistakes are an opportunity to embellish!  The words here are from Rose Wonder.  It's retiring!

We'll also be saying goodbye to Island Indigo.  You have been a wonderful blue for us and you will be missed!

Wild About Flowers is Retiring

I'm continuing to feature some of the retiring products from Stampin' Up!  Today I am using the stamp set Wild About Flowers.  This has been one of my favorites although I will admit that I haven't used it in a while.  It's just so easy to make a pretty card with this set.  Here is my card for today.

Wild About You and Wood Textures by Jo Anne Hewins

As a demonstator, I get a magazine each quarter called Success.  I got the layout for this card from the current magazine.

The card base is Crumb Cake measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at 4 1/4.  Find three different woods from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack.  Cut these 1 1/4 x 5 1/2.  To get your spacing, glue down the top and the bottom rows and then add the middle.  Great news!  The Wood Textures paper will be in the new catalog!

Fold over a length of the Berry Burst Finely Woven Ribbon and attach with glue dots.

Stamp the leaves and stems in Garden Green and the flowers in Berry Burst on Whisper White.  Cut out with the Layering Circles Framelits.  Attach with dimensionals.

The sentiment is from Rose Wonder.  That set is also retiring.  Rub the area with the Embossing Buddy.  Stamp in Versamark and add White Emboss Powder.  Use the Heat Tool to melt the powder.

The words for the inside of the card are also from Rose Wonder.  Stamp it in Berry Burst.  Stamp more flowers.

This card is a sympathy card.  It can actually be any kind of card.

Have you checked through the Retiring List?  It's listed as Last Chance.  There is probably something there that you really want.  Go here to check it out.  Thank you!

Petal Passion Designer Series Paper is Retiring

This week I am going to focus on some of the products that will be retiring May 31st.  Some products will be gone before the end of May since they are "while supplies last."  It's so exciting to think about new products coming, but still it's a little sad to say goodbye to some old friends.  Today my card features the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper and the stamp set Watercolor Words.  Both will be going away.

Petal Passion DSP and Watercolor Words by Jo Anne Hewins

When I started this card, it was to be a study in black and white.  You can see that's not what happened.  Out came my blends and I just could not stop.  I had not colored this particular piece of the Petal Passion paper.  It just looked like too much work.  This was so easy!  The paper is already shaded.  I just colored with a color and not really blending.  I think it looks great.  The colors used are Dark Daffodil Delight, Light Calypso Coral, Dark Pool Party, Dark Pink Pirouette (retiring), and Light Old Olive.

The card base is Thick Whisper White measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Score at 4 1/4.  Burnish the fold with your bone folder.

Cover the front of the base with the Petal Passion designer paper.  Cut it at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2..

Once colored, stamp the words on a piece of Whisper White in Memento Black ink.  Use the Layering Ovals Framelits to cut this out and attach to the middle of the card with dimensionals.

I told you that I just couldn't stop coloring, didn't I?  I colored more flowers and leaves from more paper.  Snip these out and decorate the outside of the oval.  Glue the pieces that are over the oval and use dimensionals on the parts that hang off the side.  So pretty!

Petal Passion card inside by Jo Anne Hewins

Maybe you never make a mistake.  Can you tell what I did with this card.  Of course you spotted it.  I did mess up stamping the sentiment inside.  I just stamped on Whisper White and cut it out with the Layering Circles Framelits.  I love the font used with the Watercolor Words stamp set.  Color and add more flowers for the inside.

Petal Passion and Watercolor Words card by Jo Anne Hewins

The dimension doesn't show very well in the pictures.  This card is so beautiful in person!  There's nothing better than a beautiful black and white designer paper.  I'm not sure how Stampin' Up! can top this!

Thank you so much for taking a look at my project today.  I am truly honored.

If you need supplies, I would be happy to help you out.  Take a look at the list below.  Did you notice that you can subscribe to my weekly newsletter at the top of the post?
