Birthday Pirates! a CASE

A friend commissioned me to make a birthday card for her grandson.  He loves pirates!  This is the card.

Pirate birthday

Didn't it turn out great!  I started by searching Pinterest and there is was.

This card was posted in May of 2014.  You can see the original post here.  It's by Melissa Cochran.

I love punch art!  We are starting to get away from punches it seems with all of the framelits and thinlits.  I love punches!  So here's how I made this updated version.

  • The card base is Dapper Denim 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4.
  • By the Shore is the designer paper of choice.  I cut three different pieces measuring 1 3/4 x 4 and adhered them to the base.  The diagonal piece is cut 1 x 4 3/4.  I glued it to a piece of white scrap paper to give it more substance.  Lay it at an angle and trim to fit the card base.  Adhere with dimensionals, but first wrap the piece 3 times with Linen Thread.  Tie a double piece around and knot.
  • The flags are glued to trimmed off coffee stir sticks.  They measure 1 x 1 1/2 and notch the ends.
  • The pirate heads are punched from an old card stock called Blush Blossom.  I keep it and use it just for skin.  I'm about to run out of it!  Help!  Use the 2" circle punch.  The same punch was used to make the scarf.  Just cut it in half.  The bow for the scarf is made from the Blossom Builder punch.  The ears are from the 1/2" circle punch.  Add a little rhinestone at one ear.  He has to have bling! Right? The patch uses the 1/2" circle punch.  The white of the eye is the same size.  The pupil uses a circle punch that is retired.  I think it was part of a punch pack at the time.  Add a little white to the pupil.  The mouth is stamped using a stamp from the Cool Treats stamp set.  The faces are adhered with dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from Big on Birthdays stamped in Calypso Coral on Very Vanilla.

Pirate Birthday inside

Here's the inside of the card.  The sentiment is from the Window Shopping stamp set. I also added another pirate.  I hope Finley enjoys his card and has a wonderful birthday!

Today we have a color challenge.

Aren't these colors lovely together?  This is my card.

I'm happy to say that all of the products I used on this card are carrying over to the new upcoming 2017-2018 annual catalog except the piece of patterned designer paper I used for the banner.  Yea!  Here are the details:

  • The card base is Island Indigo CS cut at 4 1/4 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.
  • The Flirty Flamingo layer measures 3 1/2 x 4 3/4.
  • The Whisper White layer is 3 3/8 x 4 5/8.  Stamp this layer using the Touches of Texture stamp set.  I used all three of the colors.
  • The banner measures 2 x 4 1/2.  The paper is from the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper.  Use the Triple Banner punch to notch the end.
  • Run 3 rows of Linen Thread around the flamingo piece near the top before you glue to the base of the card.
  • Use the Stitched Shapes Framelits to cut a circle from Whisper White.  Stamp this focal piece with the same stamps.  Use the Layering Circles Framelits to make a frame for this circle, glue together, and then adhere with dimensionals.
  • Tie a Linen Thread bow and adhere with a glue dot.
  • The sentiment is from the Weather Together stamp set.

Here's the inside of the card.  Again, the sentiment is from Weather Together and the stamps from Touches of Texture.

This card was easy to make.  That's what's so great about the Touches of Texture.  You can't go wrong!

Remodel with Nailed It

Cancer is a dirty word.  Everyone knows someone that has been affected by this disease.  A friend of mine recently had a double mastectomy.  As she gives us updates on Facebook, she jokes that her body is going through a remodel.  I couldn't resist sending her this card.

Nailed it card for Melanie

This card uses the Nailed It stamp set and the coordinating Build It Framelits.  These are on the Retiring List.  I was so hoping they would carry over.  We need masculine.  I did use it in a feminine way today, though.

  • The card base is Blushing Bride card stock measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score at 4 1/4.
  • The Whisper White layer is 3 3/4 x 5.
  • The Subtles Paper Stack (also retiring) is used for the Blushing Bride patterned layer.  It measures 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.
  • Stamp the tools in Basic Gray on Blushing Bride CS and on a Silver Foil sheet.  Cut out using the framelits, trim and glue together to make a two toned tool.  Cut out extra bolts and screws.
  • Put your tools on dimensionals and glue on the bolts and screws.  Stamp some nails in Basic Gray.
  • The sentiment was made using the Labeler Alphabet stamp set on white scrap.  Mount using dimensionals.

Here's the inside of the card.  The sentiment is from the stamp set Sending Thoughts. Of course I had to write that I'm really glad these aren't the tools they are using for her "remodel."

I hope that this card gave her a little smile and some encouragement.

Robby's Birthday Card

Every year I make a special birthday card for my son in law Robby.  First, here is a picture of my daughter Jessie, Robby, my husband John, and Robby's dad Mike at a Carolina Hurricanes game.

Image may contain: 4 people, people smiling

This was the basis for my card.  As I began to make the card, I only had room for three people.  Robby's birthday, so Robby's dad was included.  OK, here it is.

Robby's Birthday Card (2)

I absolutely love how this card turned out.  I'm not so sure about the people who are pictured in the card.  Let's hope they give me a little artistic license.  I can only do so much.  I'm limited.  Here's a little closer look.

Robby close up of card

I'm not even going to attempt to tell you how to make this card.  Just be prepared to spend a while.  For the Carolina Hurricane images, go to Google images.  I just printed out the ones I wanted and cut them out.

Before you say anything, yes, I now realize they have no arms.  Just pretend that their arms are down by their sides, OK?  There just isn't any room for arms.  I take that back.  I did add in the arms.  Here is how it looked without them.  The new and improved card is above.  I am much happier with arms!

This card was popular on Pinterest.  That's always flattering.  I sure appreciate it.

Basket Bunch flower pot

This card shows that this bundle is not just for Easter.  It can be adapted for lots of other uses.  I love these flowers.

Bassket Bunch carrots in a basket

Here is a thank you card.  This card could be used any time of year.

Frame adhered

This frame is great for Easter.  I also made a card using the square in the lower right hand corner.

Basket Bunch card from frame square

The frame was a lot of work and it takes a lot of time.  The card with a square is a great compromise.

Global Design Project#076

I love the mono toned eggs on this card.  It adds a lot of texture.

Peep S'Mores

This post contains the directions to make the project.  It also has the directions to print for how to microwave the S'Mores.

Cherries 1

This card used just the basket.  Let your imagination go and think of great uses for this basket.

Connie 450 2
