A Thankful NC Blog Hop
October 30, 2016
Welcome to the NC Blog Hop where we are all about being thankful. I just got back from a trip to the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway area of NC. The leaves were at their peak and oh, so pretty! This is the inspiration for my projects today.
My projects feature a watercoloring technique that I saw on a blog post from Dena Rekow at The Creativity Cave. She has a video that you can see here. If you haven't seen it, you need to right away. But first, here are my projects.
I think these go so well together. It's a perfect combo to let someone know you are blessed by them. So go watch the video, but come right back here! I'm going to start with the card.
- Start with a card base of Very Vanilla 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2 and fold.
- The watercolor paper measures 2 x 5 1/2.
- I used the stamp set Vintage Leaves and the colors Old Olive, Delightful Dijon, and Cajun Craze. Stamp a leaf one at a time. Use the Aqua Painter to color inside the leaf. Go right up to the inside edge of the leaf. I would do all of one color and then move on to the next. It's so pretty.
- Cut a piece of card stock in Old Olive, Cajun Craze, and Delightful Dijon about 1 x 5 1/2. Tear each one a little and glue them to the top of the watercolor paper after it dries. I started with the Old Olive and then just built it up from there. Adhere the piece to the bottom of the card.
- The sentiment is from the stamp set Paisleys & Posies. What better stamp is there to use to express thankfulness? I stamped it in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla and then cut it out using the Layering Circles Framelits. Embellish with a little of the Dijon ribbon from the 3/8" Ribbon Trio Pack on page 47 of the Holiday catalog. I used the soon to retire Handheld Stapler. Add a bow of Linen Thread with a glue dot. The sentiment is adhered with dimensionals.
The inside of the card uses the Paisleys & Posies set, too. Can you just imagine how that special someone might feel when they read that they have made your world brighter and more beautiful? I just love that!
And now, for the bag. I belong to the Luv 2 Stamp group with Patty Bennett. Recently, we had a downline Facebook meeting and making these bags were part of our projects. Cindee Wilkinson helped us with our project. She has a post about that here at her blog Just Sponge It. She has a picture tutorial on how to make the bags sit better for this kind of project. I'm sending you all over the place today. The fact is, we learn from each other. Right?
- Use the new 3 x 6 Gusseted Bag on page 176 of the Annual catalog. Did you go look at Cindee's blog? You need to put some tape along one side of the very bottom part of the bag and then fold it over to help the bag sit flat.
- I cut my bag insert from the Moroccan Designer Series Paper. I cut it a little longer than Cindee so I would have a little more room for the watercolor piece. Cut it at 2 7/8 x 10. Score at 1, 3, 7 3.4. Slip the insert into the bag.
- I added the mini Tootsie Rolls. I put in 20 of them. To fill the space and make it look pretty, I made my own shredded paper for the inside. Simply use your Fringe Scissors and crinkle it all up in your hand. I used Old Olive for this.
- The watercolor paper is cut 2 x 2 3/4. After stamping, adhere to the front of the bag. Did you see that I made another leaf for the bottom of the bag? I cut that one out using the Leaflets Framelits. Adhere with dimensionals.
- For the sentiment I used Acorny Thank You. Stamp in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla and punch out using the Classic Label punch. Use the same punch and punch out Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon labels.
- Use a Gold Binder Clip to hold these in place and add a linen bow with a glue dot.
That's it. I really love how the pair turned out, don't you? I bet you know someone who needs this!
Time to continue on with the blog hop. You will love all of the projects! I promise!
