I was inspired by my upline Patty Bennett to create this card. She just participated in a Fancy Fold blog hop on pattystamps.typepad.com. Take a look, after you read my blog, that is! I'm going to take the gate fold card and turn it on its side.
I started with a card base of Mossy Meadow cardstock cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 2 1/8 and 6 3/8. I used the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack. I live about an hour away from the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and that's another inspiration for this card. Many people love to bike on the Parkway. Thus, the use of the mountains on the top portion of the card. The mountain piece and the green checked piece are cut at 2 X 5 3/8.
The interesting part of the card is in the belly band. Cut your Mossy Meadow cardstock at 2 x 10 1/2. Score it at 3 and 7 3/8. Adhere using Fast Fuse or The Tear & Tape adhesive. Your seam will go in the front because your bicycle will cover it and that makes the front and the back look nice. I used another piece of patterned paper from the Going Places stack cut at 1 3/8 x 6. The paper will not cover the whole belly band. Just adhere it so that the bare section will be behind the bike. No one will know the difference!
Now for the fun. I used watercolor paper and cut it with the 4th oval from the center of the Ovals Collection Framelits. Stamp the bicycle from Pedal Pushers using the Basic Black Archival ink pad. Aqua Painters are the best! I used Mossy Meadow, Delightful Dijon, Soft Sky, and Crumb Cake ink. Just mash on the lids before you open the pad. That will put ink in the lid for you to use with your Aqua Painters. Have fun! I used the Mossy Meadow and Delightful Dijon on the bike. The Crumb Cake and Soft Sky were used for the ground and sky. The best thing about water color is that you don't have to be perfect. I mounted the bike, once dry, on a oval of Delightful Dijon. I used the 5th oval from the center of the Ovals Collection. The sentiment is from Beautiful Ride. I stamped it in Mossy Meadow and tied a bow of Linen Thread. The paper I used is Very Vanilla cardstock. It's a 1/4 inch strip of scrap paper. I notched both ends using the Hexagon Punch.
Pedal Pushers is one of the stamp sets that Stampin' Up! added to Sale-a-Bration in mid February. It will only be available for a little over 2 more weeks. I know you don't want to miss it. Make an order of $50 or more and you can choose this set as your free item! I would love for you to order from me. See the list of the end of this post.
The sentiment on the inside is from Sprinkles of Life. I'm going to give this card to my husband in a few weeks. It will be anniversary number 41, and he is my best friend so it works. The cute little birds are also from the Pedal Pusher set. I used the Aqua Painter again, but keep it light. Very Vanilla is the cardstock I used and watercolor isn't its best medium.
I love this card. It comes together easily. Thanks and please come back on Wednesday!
