Cards - Birthday

Fantastic Birthday Cards

When someone in our Luv 2 Create group has a birthday, we try to get together for a birthday dinner.  Of courses the best part is the birthday cards.  Kaye had a birthday on Saturday.  We got together last week.  This time our group was small, but the cards were great!  I just felt like I needed to share some of the cards and the creativity of our group!  I have three cards to share with you today.  Some of the cards may contain elements that are not Stampin' Up!, but that's OK.

The first card I want to share is from Martha.  At our last downline meeting, we made one of the Twist & Pop cards.  Martha used this to make her card.  We used a video found on YouTube recorded by Maymay.  You can find the link here.  These cards are striking, but they are not easy.  It takes time.  You should also know that Kaye is a lover of dogs, calling them her girls.  So here is the card.

Bella & Friends

This card features the stamp set Bella & Friends.  But the best part is what happens when you open it!

Here's a close up of the panels.  Isn't this fantastic!

Puppy bday 1

This next card was made by Lori.

Puppy bday 6

Lori is one of our fancy card makers.  Look at all of that beautiful copper and embossing.  It's beautiful!

This card was made by Debra.  She's my newest downline, but she has that card making fever.

Puppy bday 4

Do you see how she knotted the twine on the tails of the kites?  That's a great idea!

Thanks to Martha, Lori, and Debra for letting me share their creations.  Once again, Happy Birthday to Kaye!

Thanks to you for stopping by my blog today.  I'm so glad that you did.  Don't forget to visit my store at joannehewins.stampinup.net to check out the Retiring List and the Clearance Rack.

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #457

I love Thursdays.  I love the challenges each week!  This week the challenge is a sketch.

CCMC457

I have to admit that I find the sketches a little harder for me than the color challenges.  I do like how this one turned out.

CCMC#457

This card is helping me check off two items from my To Do list.  Of course, the challenge, and also my friend and downline Kaye's birthday card.  I've also fallen in love with the Falling Flowers stamp set and the May Flowers Framelits Dies.  It is carried over to the new catalog.  Hurrah!

  • The card base is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.  It features one of the new In Colors, but it is available for you now with the Eastern Palace bundle.  The name is Tranquil Tide.
  • The patterned paper is from the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper from the new catalog.  It is cut 3 X 4.  Place this paper on Whisper White cut at 3 1/8 x 4 1/8.
  • The two flowers and leaves are stamped with Versamark on Watercolor Paper. Use White Stampin' Emboss Powder and the Heat Tool to set.  Cut out with the May Flowers Framelits Dies.  Color the pieces with your Aqua Painter and ink from the lids of Tranquil Tide, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Daffodil Delight. The leaves were glued down.  The flowers were placed on using dimensionals.
  • The banner is Whisper White and measures 1 3/8 x 3 1/4.  Stamp with Calypso Coral.  The sentiment is from the stamp set Milestone Momments, a carry over from the Occasions catalog.  Make a notch at the end using the Triple Banner Punch.  Place the banner under the flower.  Put some dimensionals down near the end of the banner to give it a little lift.

Here's the inside of the card.  The sentiment is from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set.  Add another flower and leaf made the same way as the outside.

Happy Birthday to you, Kaye.  I hope you liked your card.

Thanks for coming by today.  Please come back!

Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge #456

It's Thursday and you know what that is!  Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge!  Today we are using Mint Macaron, Old Olive, and Tip  Top Taupe.  As you know, we will be saying goodbye to Mint Macaron and Tip Top Taupe at the end of May.  I sure will miss them.

Today's card is a quick and easy one.  It can be made in 10 minutes!  Some days we just need cards like that, don't we.  Here's the card I made.

CCMC456

I used a little of the old and just a little of the new for my project.

  • The card base is Tip Top Taupe cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  It is scored at 4 1/4.
  • The Mint Macaron layer is 3 5/8 x 4 7/8.
  • The Whisper White layer is 3 1/2 x 4 3/4.
  • Use the Celebrations Duo Textured Empressions Embossing Folder  to make the word celebrate.  This folder debosses which means that the image goes down into the paper.
  • The Happy Celebrations stamp set was used for the circles of color over the word celebration.  I used the larger circle stamp.  Everything for this card was stamped off first on scrap paper.  Use Tip Top Taupe and Mint Macaron for the circles.  As you stamp, the word will show up better.  Be sure to re-ink your stamp each time so you don't have part of letters where you stamp.  That's experience talking!
  • Your day is stamped without stamping off in Tip Top Taupe.
  • The flowers on this card are from a new stamp set called Daisy Delight.  It's available now if you are a demonstrator, but the rest of you will have to wait until June 1st.  The stem and flowers are stamped off first.  Use Old Olive.

Here's the inside of the card.

Ccmc3

The inside uses the same stamp sets, Happy Celebrations and Delightful Daisy, and the same colors.  Again, everything is stamped off.

A Swirly Birthday

I'm working on cards for my classes coming up the first week in May.  Today's card uses the Swirly Bird stamp set.  I really haven't used this one in a while.  I'm also using the Big on Birthdays stamp set.

Swirly Bird birthday

This is pretty much a one layer card, but there is a lot of stamping.

  • The card base is Rich Razzleberry measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.
  • The Whisper White layer is 4 x 5 1/4.
  • Stamp the sentiment in the center of the white layer.  I used Basic Black Archival ink.  I will admit that I used the MISTI to ensure that the writing is dark and solid.
  • The colors used are Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, Garden Green and Wild Wasabi.  Just stamp away!  I did start with the largest circle first and then filled in with the other flowers.  Some are stamped off for a little lighter color and some are not.  Add in the leaves wherever they will fit.  When you are happy, stop!

Swirly inside

Here's the inside of the card.  The sentiment is from the Beautiful You stamp set.  Just add more flowers and leaves.

Swirly 4

I think this is a happy card and should brighten anyone's day if you want to change the sentiment on the front.  Just let your creative self free!  Thanks for coming by today.

Classy Black and White Stripe

If you have followed me at all, you have probably noticed that I'm not much of a brights person.  The regals, subtles, and yes, the neutrals are more my style.  The black and white stripe found in the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper encourages me to brighten it up.  Here's my card for today.

Falling Flowers and May Flowers

This card uses the Falling Flowers stamp set and the coordinating framelits May Flowers.  This makes for a relatively easy card.

  • The card base is Tempting Turquoise measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4.
  • The Pop of Pink paper is cut at 4 x 5 1/4.
  • The stamp set Stylized Birthday was stamped on Whisper White card stock in Basic Black Archival ink.  Cut it out with the Layering Circles Framelits Dies.  I used the largest one.  Attach the circle with dimensionals.
  • Use Tempting Turquoise, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, and Rose Red for the leaves and flowers.  Cut out with the matching framelits.  The flowers that are on the circle are glued.  The portions that spill out over the edge are attached with dimensionals.

Falling Flowers inside

Here's the inside of the card.  I added a turquoise flower and olive leaves.  You'll have to write your own words in this one!

If you haven't used the Falling Flowers stamp set and the May Flowers Framelits Dies, I recommend them.  They really work well with the Magnetic Plate.  They even have little notches on the stamp and the dies to help you match them up easily.
