It's always fun to think about our theme and figure out a stamp set to use.  But this time, I started thinking about all the designer series paper I still have.  To me, the dots say spring.  So I pulled out my paper and went to work (or play).  Here is the result.

NC Blog Hop with Designer Series Paper Stacks

This card is fun and pretty easy to make with the Sunburst Thinlits and your Big Shot.

  • The card base is make of Thick Whisper White card stock.  It measures 4 1/4 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.
  • The card front is covered in Marina Mist dotted patterned paper from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack.  Cut it 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.
  • Cut the center from a 2 1/2 square piece of Crushed Curry dotted paper from the Regals Designer Series Paper Stack.  Use the Sunburst Thinlits for all of the layers and center the middle of the circle part over the middle of your paper square.
  • The next layer is Flirty Flamingo from the 2016-2018 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack cut from a 3 inch square.
  • Calypso Coral is the next layer from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack cut from a 3 3/4 inch square.
  • This is followed by a layer of Watermelon Wonder cut from a 4 inch square.  This color is in the 2015-2017 In Color Designer Series Paper.
  • Finally cut a sunburst from a Wild Wasabi 4 inch square.  Cut a couple double sections for leaves.
  • Trim each layer into a circle but be a little crazy with your cuts.  Each layer is a little bigger.
  • Attach the layers to each other with dimensionals.  Yes, you are right.  This card will not mail well.  Place each layer off center of the layer below.
  • Glue the flower just a little off center of the card.  Turn the card over and trim any parts that are hanging off flush with the card.

Flowers hop 1

  • Now you must fluff each layer up at the ends.  This helps the layers pop.
  • The sentiment on the front is from Sunshine Sayings.  The words are stamped in Basic Black Archival ink on Whisper White scraps and cut apart.  Place them on half dimensionals.
  • I felt the card needed a little something else, so I added the dots from Bunch of Blossoms randomly.

Flowers hop 3

The sentiment on the inside comes from Big on Birthdays.  It's stamped in Watermelon Wonder.  Stamp some more of the little dots in black (Bunch of Blossoms).

Flowers hop inside

This card would be great to boost someone up with different words.  It's so bright and cheery.

Do you have lots of scraps of designer paper?  Use them up on beautiful flowers.  It's spring!  Celebrate!

Happy Celebrations!

The Happy Celebrations stamp set on page 40 of the Occasions catalog pairs with the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  They are unique!  The embossing folders actually deboss.  That means that the impressions go down into the paper.

Happy Celebration

For this card I stamped the Happy in Night of Navy in the middle of a 2 x 5 piece of Whisper White.  Then line up the word with the happy embossing folder.  As I look closer this folder seems to emboss and deboss at the same time.  Wow!

Happy 4

  • Start with a card base of Watermelon Wonder measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score at 4 1/4, and fold.
  • The Night of Navy card stock layer is 3  3/4 x 5.
  • The next layer is 3 1/2 x 4 3/4.  This paper is the Carried Away Designer Series Paper that is a free choice with Sale-a-Bration.  You know there is only about a week of Sale-a-Bration left.  Time is running out!
  • Place the happy sentiment at an angle across the paper.  Trim the ends to fit the navy layer.
  • Using the same patterned paper, make two banners measuring 3/4 x 4 and notched at the end.
  • Stamp the birthday to you on a 1/2 inch piece of Whisper White in navy.

Happy 3

For the inside, celebrate is stamped in Watermelon Wonder ink.  The balloon and the rest of the sentiment is stamped in navy.  The balloon is from the Balloon Adventure stamp set.

Happy 1

We'll be making this card at my card classes on March 30 and 31st.  It will be one last hurrah for Sale-a-Bration.  Want to earn a free Sale-a-Bration item?  Spend $50 or more before shipping and tax, but March 31st is the last day!  Act now.  Did I tell you that the free items are now while supplies last.  The tin box is already gone.  Click on any of the icons below to go to my online store.  Thanks!

CCMC449 with Definitely Dahlia

Today the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge is a sketch.

Displaying CCMC449.png

When I saw this sketch, it made me think of a single image spread all across the three rectangles.  I decided to use the stamp set Definitely Dahlias.  I haven't used it in a long time.  In fact, I had to check and make sure it was still current.  This is the card I made.

Create With Connie and Mary CCMC449

This card is a little step outside of the box for me.  I'm not a brights kind of person.  I do think this card is pretty.  Here's how to make it.

  • Start with a card base of Elegant Eggplant cut 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4 and folded.
  • The next layer is Melon Mambo measuring 4 x 5 1/4.
  • The strip of patterned paper is 3/4 x 5 1/4.  It's from the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper.
  • For the dahlia, I used Watercolor Paper.  I cut a big piece 4 x 5 1/4 for my watercolor.  I tried this both ways.  You can do your watercolor and then stamp the dahlia with Versamark.  Cover in white embossing powder and heat with the heat tool.  Of course the watercolor must dry completely before you stamp.  You can also stamp the dahlia first and emboss it in white embossing powder before you do any watercoloring.  Either way, I do suggest using the Embossing Buddy. I couldn't tell much of a difference with either technique.
  • This is how I did the watercolor.  I used Elegant Eggplant and Melon Mambo ink pads.  Wet the entire area well.  Use a closed baggie.  Tap the pad on the baggie. Then pick it up, wrinkle it up a little, and apply the color directly to the paper.  I started with Melon Mambo.  You'll need to repeat the process until you are happy.  Wipe the baggie clean with paper towels.  Now use the Elegant Eggplant. Do the same process.  I used the pink on the left and purple on the right and tried to mingle it a little in the middle.  Just play with the color until you are happy.  This process allows for concentrated color.
  • After everything is dry, cut the paper to 3 1/2 measuring top to bottom.  Look at the design to determine where you want to start cutting for the panels.  Each piece is 1 1/4 inches wide.  The pieces are cut so the design continues across the paper.  I did use the side of the blade of my paper snips to rough up the edges of the watercolor paper rectangles.
  • The tag at the top is punched with the Classic Label Punch out of left over watercolor.
  • The tag on the bottom has the sentiment from Beautiful You stamped in Elegant Eggplant.  I hand cut the point on the tag.

Here's the inside of the card.  The sentiment is from Beautiful You again.  For the dahlia, I stamped it in Melon Mambo and then sponged around the edges in Elegant Eggplant.

Birthday Blast Bundle in Elegant Eggplant

The Southern Belles met again last night.  Of course we had to have a swap.  We had decided to make our cards with a color we think should retire.  There's been some talk that this could be the year that Stampin' Up! could do a little bit of a color shake up.  We don't know for sure, but it's fun to think about.  I chose Wisteria Wonder as the color I think should retire.  I'm not a purple person so that could have influenced my choice.  My card was influenced by Janet Wakeland.  Here's the card.

Bday Blast

  • The card base is Elegant Eggplant measuring 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2 and fold in half.
  • The Wisteria Wonder layer is 4 x 5 1/4.
  • Use the Star Blast Edgelit Dies to cut out 2 of the shooting stars.  Put one at each end of the card.
  • The banners are cut using the Regals Designer Series Paper Stack.  I chose the Elegant Eggplant color.  Each banner is 1 1/2 x 4.  Notch the ends using the Triple Banner Punch.  I did cut by looking at the back and pushing the paper in just far enough to notch so I didn't waste paper.
  • The Whisper White banner is 1 1/4 x 4 and notched.  I did use dimensionals to adhere this part.  The sentiment is from the Birthday Blast stamp set.  I used a few of the stars that were cut out when making the star blast to decorate the banner.
  • Add a bow of Elegant Eggplant Solid Baker's Twine.

Bday Blast 3

Finish off the inside with a few more stars around the birthday sentiment.  It's also from the Birthday Blast stamp set.

Bday Blast 2

This is a quick and easy card using the Birthday Blast bundle.  Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.  The product list follows.  Just click on any of the products to go to my online store.  I'd love to be your demonstrator!

Color Fusers Blog Hop: March 2017

It's time for another Color Fusers Blog Hop.  Today we have a wonderful slate of colors for you!

Image may contain: text

We'll be using Mint Macaron, Peekaboo Peach, Watermelon Wonder, and Wild Wasabi. These colors remind me of spring.  I love spring!  Here in North Carolina, we experienced a very warm February.  Some of the trees are already starting to come out.  We have flowers!  But it's all a little scary.  Sometimes March is our snowiest month.  In fact, as I write this post, it's snowing in our mountains in the higher elevations.  Back to my card.

Color Fusers March 2017

Now this card does make me think of spring.  It features the Falling Flowers stamp set and the May Flowers Framelits Dies.  Here are the details.

  • My card base is Thick Whisper White card stock measuring 4 1/4 x 11, scored at 5 1/2 and folded.  I'm so happy that we have the Thick Whisper White.  It's lovely.
  • The Watermelon Wonder layer is 3 x 4 1/4.  The Peekaboo Peach patterned paper measures 2 7/8 x 4 1/8.  It's from the Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper.
  • All of the elements added to the outside of the rectangle are stamped in Archival Basic Black ink on Watercolor Paper.  I colored them by pressing the lid down on a closed pad of ink, opening it, and painting with the color in the lid.  I used the Aqua Painter.  I used the Falling Flowers stamp set.  Cut out with the coordinating May Flowers Framelits Dies.  This was so much fun!  It is a little labor intensive, but I love the results.  Some elements were glued directly to the base of the card and others were adhered using dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the stamp set Sunshine Sayings.  Just stamp on Whisper White scraps in black and trim them with your snips.
  • I used some of the sprinkles from the Sprinkles Embellishments in the Occasions catalog for the largest flower.  Pick out the Watermelon Wonder ones!

For the inside of the card, add another flower.

I really do like this card.  My first card used card stock.  It's pretty too, so I want to share it.

Color Fuser March 2017 second choice

I added sponging to these elements.  The designer paper is also from Tasty Treats Specialty. Which one do you like best?
