So Detailed Thinlits Squared

If you are like me, the So Detailed Thinlits on page 52 caught your eye the first time you flipped through the Occasions catalog.  They are so pretty.  I can envision them on a quilt spread out on my king size bed.  With that thought in mind, here is the card.

So Detailed Thinlits

  • The card base is Calypso Coral 4 1/4 x 11, scored at 5 1/2, and folded.
  • Start by cutting the largest thinlit in Tip Top Taupe.  Glue it down on a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Very Vanilla.
  • Using the smallest square from the  Stitched Shapes Framelits, cut it out in 4 rows of three.  Your paper will look like this when done.  Keep the squares in order so you'll know how to place them on the card base.

Detailed cut piece

  • Place the pieces along the bottom and up the middle to get your spacing.  Get those glued and then do the rest.
  • Wrap Linen Thread around the card three times and tie it.  The bow is made according to a video by Billie Moan.  You can see it here.  Attach the bow with a glue dot.
  • The Calypso Coral banner measures 7/8 x 3 1/2.  Stamp in coral with the flower from So In Love.  Notch at the end.
  • The vanilla banner is 1/2 x 3 1/2.  Stamp the greeting in coral.  It's from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set.  Notch the ends of this also.
  • Finish off the project with pearls.

Detailed close up

The inside of the card has another square with the So Detailed thinlits in vanilla in a Calypso Coral frame.  The sentiment is repeated three times in Tip Top Taupe and Calypso Coral.

Time to Celebrate

My son Jeff had a birthday last week.  He is 37.  You may not believe it, but I remember being 37.  I honestly don't know where time has gone!  How did I get old enough to have a child that is 37?  I can't really even call him a child, can I?  Well, he will always be mine.  Here he is when he was little and now.  He loves his dogs!

Here is the birthday card I made for Jeff.

Happy Celebrations

I used Dapper Denim and Basic Black on this card because Jeff loves Duke basketball. So, the black has nothing to do with the fact that he is 37, just in case you are wondering.  Here are the details for this card.

  • The card base is Dapper Denim measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4, and folded.
  • The Basic Black layer is 3 3/4 x 5.
  • The Designer Series Paper used is Urban Underground Specialty.  It measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2.  Use the new Sponge Brayer to color this paper with Dapper Denim ink.  Just keep adding ink until you have the desired color.  Cut the paper at a diagonal.  Adhere part to the top of the black and the other part to the bottom. The banner across will cover up the space that is left.
  • Stamp the balloon in black onto denim card stock and punch out with the Balloon Bouquet punch.  Stamp the balloon string in black.  Stamp twice so that the string hangs out under the banner to the bottom of the page.  Do this by first inking the top part of the string, stamp, clean, and then ink the bottom and stamp.  Adhere the balloon with dimensionals.
  • Using a 2 inch strip of Whisper White and the celebrate from the Celebrations Duo Embossing Folders, emboss.  This makes a debossed image in the paper. Stamp with the circle stamp from Happy Celebrations in Dapper Denim, denim stamped off, Basic Black, and black stamped off until all of the word has been highlighted.
  • The greeting is from the Happy Celebrations stamp set.  Stamp on a 1/4 strip of Whisper White and notch the ends.

Celebrate inside

Here's the inside of the card.

Happy Celebrations Alternative

I wanted to try an alternative with the solid balloon from Balloon Adventures.  I also used the sentiment in a different way.

Which one do you like best?  Happy Birthday, Jeff!

Beautiful You and Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack

One of the most popular stamp sets in the 2017 Occasions catalog for Stampin' Up! is the Beautiful You set.  I shared a card using this set here if you would like to check it out.  Today's card also uses the paper piecing technique.  This set lends itself so easily to this technique.  Who doesn't want to play dress up?  I loved paper dolls as a kid. Ah, the simple days.

Beautiful You and Sending Love

  • This card starts with a card base of Thick Whisper White card stock.  Cut it 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2 and fold.
  • The dotted Sending Love Designer Series Paper measures 2 3/4 x 5 1/2.  A thin strip of Basic Black card stock (1/4 x 5 1/2) butts up against it.
  • The Whisper White card stock insert measures 3 1/2 x 3.  It has a black layer under it measuring 3 5/8 x 3 1/8.
  • The woman is stamped in Basic Black Archival ink.  Allow to dry a little.  Stamp again on the Sending Love paper getting the dress and hat.  When I cut this, I did cut the whole piece together including the hair.  Glue this to your woman.
  • Use the Watercolor Pencils to lightly color the skin with Early Espresso and blend with the Blender Pen.  I also used the Bermuda Bay pencil to color in the puddle at her feet and blended.
  • For the sun, punch a circle with the 3/4 inch circle punch in the middle of a sticky note.  Adhere this so that the empty circle is where you would like the sun to be. Using a sponge dauber and Daffodil Delight ink, color in the circle.  When you remove the sticky note, your sun will be just where you want it.
  • Stamp the sentiment in Basic Black Archival ink.

Beautiful you 4

  • Add pieces of the Lace Doilies to the top and bottom of the insert.
  • Adhere to the card front.

Beautiful you

The greeting on the inside is from Beautiful You also.  I added a strip of Sending Love paper to the bottom measuring 1 inch x 4 1/4.

Contact me!  Today, I'm using the stamp set Avant-Garden.  This is a pretty set for the flower lover.  That's me!  Here is my card.

Avant-Garden in eggplant

  • Start with a card base of Elegant Eggplant measuring 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.
  • The Whisper White layer is 4 x 5 1/4.  Using the Stitched Shape Framelits cut the largest oval from the center of the white layer.  This may seem strange, but it's a great way to save paper.
  • Cut a scalloped oval from Elegant Eggplant that will fit behind the white oval using the Layering Ovals Framelits.
  • Using the stamp from Avant-Garden that is meant for the center of the flower, stamp to make a background on the white layer.  Pay no attention to the big hole in the middle.  Adhere to the card base.
  • Using the Regals Stampin' Write Markers, Garden Green and Elegant Eggplant, color in flower stamp for the center of the oval.  Use direct marker to stamp. Use the side of the marker tip and not the point, please.
  • Adhere the white oval to the eggplant scallop oval.  Using dimensionals, adhere the oval to the center of the white layer over the hole.  The extra scallop will completely cover up that there is a hole back there!

Avant garden 4

  • The banner is stamped from the Badges & Banners stamp set. Use Elegant Eggplant ink onto Whisper White.  Punch out with the Duet Duo punch.  I used dimensionals on this too.  If you are concerned with be able to mail this card, you might want to just glue it on.
  • Add a bow using the Solid Elegant Eggplant Baker's Twine.

The inside of this card uses a set from the Occasions catalog called Big on Birthdays. These stamps are big!  Did you know that you can put both of these stamps on one block to stamp?  Oh, yes.

The Avant-Garden stamp set does have a great birthday greeting in it if you are trying to keep the supplies down.  This card is a simple one to make.  Thanks for your visit to my blog.

Beautiful Balloon?

I think it all started when I saw on Pinterest that someone had made a card using the Up & Away Thinlit Dies, but not as balloons.  They had made a beautiful perfume bottle.  I bet you can find it on Pinterest.  Don't you just love it when there is a new and different way to use something you already have.  That's when the idea popped into my head to use the balloon as a skirt on the Beautiful You lady.  Here's my card.

Beautiful You Up & Away

I love how it turned out.  Simple, really.

  • Start with a card base of Basic Black 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.
  • Use the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper for this card.  The piece with gold is 1 inch x 5 1/4.  Cut a thin, 1/4 inch, piece of the Melon Mambo diagonal stripe 5 1/4 in length.  The Whisper White piece is 3 1/8 x 5 1/4.
  • Stamp the lady from Beautiful You on the white piece with Basic Black Archival ink.  Allow to dry a little.  Also stamp on the Melon Mambo dotted paper to get the upper part of the dress and the hat.  Cut these out and glue them in place on the lady.  This is called paper piecing.
  • Use the Watercolor Pencils, Early Espresso, and color lightly the skin.  Use a Blender Pen to blend.
  • Cut the largest balloon from Melon Mambo card stock.  Trim for the waist of the skirt as needed.  I did have to make it a little thinner to fit the waist of the lady. Cut the bottom (top of the balloon) where you would like it.  Simply cut the pieces from the framelits to fit behind the skirt and glue them on from the back.  This reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara and her hoops under her dress.  Use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere the balloon piece to the dots.  I did put a really thin piece of white at the top of the skirt just to give a little definition.

Balloon girl skirt

  • Stamp the sentiment in Basic Black Archival ink.

For the inside of the card  add the birthday greeting from Beautiful You.  Stamp an extra hat on the mambo dotted paper and cut it out.  Glue in place.
