My husband, John, and I just got back from an 11 day trip to Alaska. It was wonderful! We went with a tour group with Christian Tours. It's a great tour company near Maiden, NC. I highly recommend it even if my husband does work there part time. They are a class act. Everything ran smoothly. Just in case you are wondering, we were not on the ship where a man murdered his wife.
It's always been a dream to go to Alaska. I'm so glad we did. We flew from Charlotte, NC to Minneapolis. After a lay over, we went on to Anchorage. Our next destination was Denali National Park. We went by bus to catch the Alaska Railroad. Here's a picture of Denali in the distance on our way to the train.
And here is another. Do you know that only 30% of the people are actually able to see Denali. It's usually covered in clouds. We are part of the 30% club. We saw it for two days.
The Alaskan Railroad was a lot of fun. The scenery of course is just beautiful. Here is the train.
Most of my pictures are going to have Denali in the background. I learned that the waters in this area are gray. The silt from glaciers causes it to be this way. It doesn't show as well in this photo.
We ate while we were on the train. John decided to try to Reindeer Dog. He didn't think it was that good.
We ended up near Denali National Park. We stayed at the Denali Grizzly Bear Resort near Glitter Gulch. I didn't take a picture of the resort, but it was a little rustic. We had a lovely balcony that looked out on the river.
The next day we took a bus to the park to look for wildlife. I have to say that we didn't see a lot of animals. But, it was a wonderful day. We did see a wolf walking down the road. Our guide says that almost never happens.
We ended up with a beautiful view of Denali as up close as possible. Here's a picture of John with the mountain in the background.
We drove back down toward Seward to catch our ship for a 7 day cruise. On the way we went to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. There they have animals that have been hurt and cannot be returned to the wild. This is where we saw animals upclose and personal. We saw bear, mush ox, caribou, porcupine, and more. Here's a pic of some of the caribou.
I took this picture just because it was so beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed this little trip through a little part of Alaska. Did you know that you could fit 2 1/2 of Texas inside Alaska? I'll be sharing a little more of our cruise on Friday.
Thanks for joining me today!
